Speedway Forum, with all due respect a lot of dinosaurs , like all social media, full of negativity. I wasn't at Plymouth last night, I never watch BSN, I am occasional Speedway attender these days. I went to Plymouth earlier in the eason VIBRANT . PACKED , FULL OF NEW FANS... Now go and take a look at Plymouth Gladiators Social Media. Excellent non Speedway Fans media Team started last season, combined with and overseen by the always excellent Andy Hague. Bumper Crowd again last night Did they moan about "no passing" "long air fence delays" " three hours to finish a meeting" "queues to get in"?? Well if the did nO ONE seems to have moaned "Brilliant" "Exciting" "First Time i'll be back" "Great Atmosphere" "Fantastic spectacle" "Great night thanks to the electrician who found my childs earbud under the NHS Stand" Massive positivit from NEW fans, returning fans , curious to have a look at what its all about fans. No extinction level event in Devon Dinosaurs face extinction. Plymouth, as i've banged on about for 12 months , bucking the trend , MAKING EACH RACE NIGHT A ONE OFF EVENT! The Score doesn't matter The Delays don't matter It's like a one off Concert / Theatre / Circus / type Event. Speedway as E N T E R T A I N M E N T not as a Sport! Gloaters can gloat, moaners can moan, Plymouth seem to have found a magic elexir! (No disrespect meant to any poster, just trying to open up minds !)11 points

Are you being serious here? I can’t tell. “Michael Oliver isn’t sure it’s a penalty at Old Trafford, VAR video angle is inconclusive after reviewing the screen and no penalty given.” Hang on, Dave from the 2nd row of the Stretford end has a good angle on his iPhone, he’s going to send it to the referee on WhatsApp.” Announcement pending.. “After video review on Dave’s iPhone a Penalty is awarded for a foul on Manchester United’s number 9”.9 points

There was certainly plenty of "incident" last night to keep folk interested even if the "racing" (passing) wasn't up to much. If it hadn't had taken them around 20 minutes per pop to replace the airbags there was nothing much else to complain about... they're certainly not going to get a job in an F1 pit crew with the amount of time it took them to replace the bags, they really need to be addressing that, I remember seeing the Birmingham track staff replacing an airbag in a matter of minutes a couple of years back, literally 2 or 3 minutes! Proving that it can be done. When you've had a 20 minute delay to replace an airbag, a 52 second race and then follow that up with a 10 minute track grade it's not really "fan friendly". Due to the tight, confined nature of the Plymouth track they really need to get on top of this issue.8 points

I was a Somerset Rebels fan throughout their existence (plus a speedway fan before too) and like so many around the country lost my local team to support. Post covid I made the odd trip down to Plymouth as I thought this would be better than nothing and the kids still loved going, now we are getting down there as often as we can and have made the 160 odd mile round trip for all three meetings this season. The improvements the promotion have make are amazing over the years and the track is wider and although not much passing last night the opportunities are there to explore much more than they were 5/6 years back. I have never watched a BSN stream from Plymouth as I prefer to be there and am lucky enough to be able to do that regularly. My 18 year old daughter is now part of the previously mentioned Plymouth Media team which has really stepped up in the past two seasons with Andy Hague and Sam Whitfield leading the way on this giving the youngsters a chance to deliver this as they now do. We even had to with for my daughter to interview Garry May afterwards before we could leave for home last night. Yes the air bags do take a while to swop out but it needs to happen for rider safety. Mark Phillips, the Promoter/owner/track curator amongst many other roles he undertakes, was front and centre getting this sorted again last night. With the first one complete I spotted him putting his 'Promoters' tie back on after completing the task! Rob Doran (clerk of the course) actually was interviewed and explained the issues they to deal with in making the changes. Both times the air bags were popped were straight after track grades and watering so the track dried out during the delays meaning it needed more work. soon after. Ok it took a while but it happens sometimes at speedway, will it stop me going again? - definitely not! I got home at 11.35pm but was in work at 6.50am to do an 11 hour shift in the pro shop at the golf club. The golf club members know I'm more likely to know the speedway results around the country than who won the latest professional golf tournament! My sister, brother in law and niece all came along to the Coliseum for the first time last night and my niece is already asking when she can go again. I know a lot of you moan about the kids race but it is brilliant to see so many wanting to take part each week. I was stood near Scott and Danny at the pit gate whilst waiting for my son and niece to return and overheard them saying how good it is to see so many out there. Long may it continue and maybe one week the dog will follow the whole track rather than cutting across the top bend! I enjoyed last night, as did those with me, and the atmosphere is growing meeting by meeting down in Devon. See you all you Gladiators again in a couple of weeks when Scunny are down.7 points

Fantastic meeting today, just shows what a fab racetrack it is. Unbelievable compared to what was dished up yesterday Healthy crowd, great racing, loads of passing, a freshly cut centre green, what’s not to like 😂7 points

Investigation underway for who was impersonating Mitch Cluff today.6 points

Surely the result doesn't matter as long as the racing was exciting?😉 Whether it was or wasn't I bet the large crowd will be back for the next home meeting. Well done Plymouth.....5 points

So pleased a decent crowd turned up to see that! Now that is proper Speedway! Great racing from both sides, whether Berwick fans admit it or not it’s irrelevant that was what we all go to see. We’re lucky to have that as our home track. Well done the Comets and thanks to the guests, the Comets won and Speedway won today.4 points

Really looked a healthy turnout too me wouldn’t say it was any less or more than usual. Only going by the naked eye though as I don’t count the crowd every week.4 points

Blobby is driving Cluff down in a bridge building exercise helping him unload his kit. Going by inside intel he is going to wait until Cluff goes for a piss and abandon him in Cumbria in the hope he spits the dummy and chucks it. So I have heard.4 points

Cammy is a tactical mastermind and he's playing 4D chess. Rest assured the Tigers will comfortably win tonight and his genius will finally be recognised.4 points

You are so far off the mark with this statement it beggars belief, stinks of envy of a club on the up in these challenging times rather than a club in decline like the majority of teams, crowds and positivity. Plymouth bucking the trend long may it continue.4 points

Good idea will pass this never thought off before notion to the recruitment team. Always the ever helpful Edinburgh fan that you are that never and I mean never comes across as bitter.4 points

So what we’re saying is the Comics would have been in the semis if it wasn’t for Willie Dishington and Greg Blair? Got it3 points

Great post, anyone who judges a speedway match by the number of passes is clearly deluded.3 points

To be fair to him... He has just been interviewed and said "mikebv on the BSF is right and I need to get my finger out" ..😝3 points

He's only gone and bloody done it... and well done to him for speaking out... he's not telling us anything we don't already know that the BSPL chairman is rotten to the core (Quelle surprise) and desperately needs replacing, it's just a shame that it's taken this to get any rider to speak out about it... and the mind boggles as to the other goings on that we have never heard about... the BSPL makes Fifa look like the Salvation Army!3 points

They have to work real hard on the track to keep the dust down yeah. 6pm starts from next week onwards, plus the floodlights arriving in mid may will no doubt assist massively.3 points

An interesting take on circuits from Dan in this week’s Star. It’s good to hear an informed opinion from one of the most skilful & adaptable riders currently in action. Here’s what the world number 3 had to say. "We will see what happens with the new promoter," Bewley said. "But I would love to see more temporary tracks and have that bit of guesswork again, where no-one has an advantage." Someone who hasn't ridden a bike might also notice the lack of small tracks on the calendar and suggest this is also to the detriment of a championship largely raced on high-speed Eastern European ovals. Bewley has a very different take and insists the circuits are more varied than meets the eye. He said: "When it comes to tracks like Lodz and Gorzow before it, or even Torun, the closest track to those in Britain is probably Leicester. You actually really have to turn the bike a lot on those tracks. "People have this conception that all the Polish tracks are big and easy and you just ride around in a circle. It's really not very accurate. We go to Landshut and we're doing 80mph at the end of the straight but then we are under the bars to try and turn it. "All the tracks we ride have slightly different material. You could argue Belle Vue and Wroclaw are the same track but they are actually completely different with the material. There is a big difference between them. I actually think there is quite a variety between all the tracks now." In the 2000s, it was often widely assumed that Polish riders struggled to adapt to Britain's tight and technical tracks. But a new age of purpose-built speedway stadiums such as Torun, Gorzow and Lodz seems to have given those competing in Poland a more technical grounding. "Gorzow is more technical than Wolverhampton used to be, for example," Bewley said. "Wolves wasn't very difficult. People thought that I couldn't ride it. The difference was I wasn't very good off the start back then. I could easily ride it. The track was really not that difficult."If anything, Gorzow is probably a lot harder than most British tracks to ride. I know we're not going there for SGP this year but it's a real track. "The track in Lodz is a little bit like Eastbourne was - just a bigger version of it. It's similar in a way. The kerbs are a bit funky. If you put a third on to the size of Eastbourne, it probably wouldn't be far off this. A lot of tracks in Europe are more technical than people think." Bewley seems pretty adaptable wherever he goes, as a SP bronze medal in 2025 suggests. A famous win at Manchester's first event, coupled with second spot in Landshut, third places in Gorzow, Malilla and Wroclaw, and fourth at the finale in Vojens, earned him a first-ever podium.3 points

Cookie stuck to his racing line, enters the bend first, and battye tries to round him, laying his bike down in the process. Whole spot is a rubbish show. Greg is as unprofessional as they come and shouldn't be any where near a microphone the clown. But hey, s**t happens, on to the next one.3 points

If it shows that someone else is to blame where’s the problem . Could have been a nasty one for Reid and if it shows he wasn’t at fault the correct decision is made . In football the decision on field is made and then if looked at from different angles it can be looked at and reversed . It’s 2026 no the 80s3 points

Well today's another day, looks to be a very patched up comets side, but to all fans please come down to support the comets, it's only the 2nd meeting of the season, injuries happen, we carry on supporting the Comets through good and bad 😀🔵⚪🏁UTC3 points

There does appear to be lots of crowd noise, and crowd input, on my stream.... With plenty of away fans making noise too.. Not sure if that is needed at a Speedway meeting ..😀2 points

Makes a massive difference because in the afternoon the track has zero shade, after 6pm it’s behind the backstraight and all the trees. The sun just dries the track out in no time.2 points

He actually practiced yesterday for the first time since his shoulder injury. Speedway Star interviewed him recently and his situation was very similar to Jason Doyle. He couldn’t wait any longer for Ipswich to confirm they were running so signed a Danish contract. He said he hasn’t ruled out racing in Britain next season, and might do later this season if the opportunity arises and is good for his schedule, but at the moment it is no for the UK in ‘26.2 points

"He then asked if there if a replay was available (yes he should have asked before announcing but hindsight is a wonderful thing)" Hindsight, or just doing your job properly to begin with. Same difference.2 points

So you think the crowds have been falling away recently and you wonder why? Firstly when you say recently do you mean since the play offs last year, since we've only had 2 home meetings this year Berwick and Plymouth. Many people I know assumed Berwick would be rained off so didn't go. And perhaps the decision to stream at the bargain price of £7 had an impact. The time to judge will be next meeting against Edinburgh. Their fans always turn up if they think they've got a chance and after their brilliant result against Redcar at home recently who can blame them.2 points

I’m sure the SCB/track regulations prohibit filming without prior accreditation from the BSPL or Promoter. Some tracks allow filming for personal use only. To then use this type of footage probably filmed at 60fps on a mobile, is an absolute head loss by Dishington.2 points

I think the rule is that official footage if provided can be used for the referee to make his decision, but has to defer the result until the footage is seen, you can't announce a result then go and look at a fans footage and change your mind. The decision wouldn't have affected a drubbing for the comets , but the officials have to abide by the rules, the sport 🤔 is becoming more of a joke every weekend2 points
-
Impartial announcer? Since when are there any of those? I'm sure they make any away fans feel welcome but they will always play up to the home fans. Sure he isn't as bad as the Wolves one was (Porky). Also with the guest announced you will do well just to win on the day!2 points

Good luck to the Comets today after a heavy away defeat and two injured riders the team needs all the support it can get .2 points

Not sure if Cami moaned but the kids running in the kids race did say it was a bit on the slick side and were concerned about a couple off ruts on the second bend2 points
