  1. Our team manager is Peter Schroeck. There was no fury as he probably thinks we won.

  2. Take a bow Freddy Hodder. I don’t think anyone seen that coming. Phenomenal performance

  3. Ahhh, if ever a post reflected a nickname...Respectfully that's rubbish. The impact on his confidence finishing that far back in every heat can't be good for him and he's 26! It's not like he's a teenager who is upcoming, I'd argue 26 is far too old to be classified as a rising star anyway. Can't fault Tom's efforts and his professionalism but at this time he's clearly not ready for this level of racing. Hopefully a focus on NL for him will help him potentially secure a Championship place in the future. As for his replacement Ben Whalley, it's a brave shout bringing in an NDL 2 point rider straight into the Championship even with the amount of points he's scored. Anyone know much about him from his Edinburgh form? Either way got to be worth a try!! Good luck to him.

  5. The track’s condition has been appalling for some time now and shows no improvement regardless of the weather. It’s always slick and dusty. Just a couple of seasons ago there was always an outside line and plenty of passing. Think Bomber, Scotty, Charles Wright and others; they were never off it. However Mitch’s performance last night demonstrated otherwise. I know we’re fortunate to have Speedway at Oxford but after what we’ve been used to it’s hard to justify standing around watching the guff that’s being served up now. Perhaps, as another poster suggested, they know the inevitable.

  6. I did laugh when schroek described the defeat at Workington as a good defeat. thought he was wrong to blame the reserves as he choose a top heavy team and the consequences of that is weaker reserves signing his mate Riss ,who for the fourth year running is unfortunately not able to ride due to his eye issues. Always a big risk especially as big hitting replacements are hard to find. thought the track was better than normal in respect of the dust but it seems the watering equipment is far from adequate.

  7. Awful from Oxford, what on earth was that track all about? Tracks been poor all season for me. Without Riss we have no second heat leader, Rowe is barely contributing 3rd heat leader scores, meaning McDiarmid is riding out of position. Fair play to Glasgow, a deserved victory, a great night for Hodder but any home team should not be letting an away reserve averaging under 3 to go unbeaten.

  8. Fair play to the Ipswich promotion, they now provide audio for the streaming service before the meeting and some of the interviews during the meeting to those at the track. And on the big screen of course.

  9. As someone who regularly attends Oxford but no allegiance (my past supported clubs closed) the track has been disappointing this season and will impact my decision in whether I will attend future meetings. I won't stop going, but may attend less as it's a fair way to go to watch 4 riders going around in dust with no racing.

  10. As a Southampton supporter Lisa I thought you'd be watching the football from behind a tree!!(sorry)

  11. That’s positive, but unless they sort out the track issues and, by consequence, improve the racing, they’ll continue to lose support, as is becoming more evident every week.

  12. My first visit this year, and once again disappointed with the lack of any passing once the first lap had been completed. I note some complaining about the lack of a racing line out wide, which Bomber's poor score would seem to validate. What I noticed last season on the couple of occasions I visited was how dominant gates 1 and 3 were in comparison to 2&4, and it was sadly true again tonight. 1 &3 had 11 of the race winners, and scored 59-31 overall. Gate four scored 9 points all evening! That can't be conducive to producing good racing when there is such an imbalance. Even the best rider on show, Sam Masters dropped his only points when out of 2 or 4. There is some banking, yet there doesn't seem to be any advantage going out wide, as Mitch McDiamid found out. Is that down to track prep? Was it too slick? I had read that they had had a delivery of shale recently, so was expecting some good racing. I used to rate the track, but recent visits have disappointed. A great shame, given all the effort at such a superb venue.

  13. Presumably if Poole had won last night it would have been a terrific performance with a big well done to the reserves.

  16. BSN didn’t cover themselves in glory much either when they moaned about people complaining about the track being dusty. You could see from race one this was not going to be good, and why they sent the tractor out I have no idea, there was nothing to grade.

  18. The line up shown for fhe Swedish Final also shows the lack of top level talent depth that exists now over there too...

  19. Can McDiarmid not ride the inside of the track? He spent most of the meeting scraping the fence and not once did it work, while everybody rising the inside of him were disappearing off into the distance.

  20. Kemp is a really good signing, suits our track for sure. He can be very fast on his day. Scored 12 points last season at Northside from the No.1 position. Glad he's been snapped up and in the side for this weekend. Averaged 8.57 when riding in the No.1 position last season, so obviously has the ability, he kicked on massively over the last 2 seasons. I would move Kemp to No.5 and have Batchelor ride at No.3 with Tate, but that's just my opinion.

  21. I completely disagree. If anything, signing Drew Kemp brings in a far better calibre of rider for where the Comets are at right now. For a start, Kemp doesn't come with a history of not turning up or pulling out at the eleventh hour. Cook has had chance after chance at various tracks, and the unpredictability just drains a team. Workington are completely correct in wanting to give the paying public a reliable, committed 1-to-7 on the track each week. Kemp works hard, and he puts the laps in. Reliability and commitment is far better than sporadic talent in a team sport. This is definitely not a write-off.

  26. Not a bad meeting so far. Josh Pickering is definitely on the pace and if they continue to serve this level of entertainment on a Thursday night with live TV coverage, British speedway on Thursday is being seriously challenged and simply adds to the the decline of the current format. Speedway UK and the muppets in charge need to recognise that what you offer when put on a par with tonight’s Polish offering simply does not cut it. Forget everything else’s and start afresh because the muppets who are the cause of the dwindling support are shafting every supporter. Why go to a Thursday night track in the UK when the Poles offer a product that far outranks the live offering in the UK.

  27. Don't forget he's a Poole rider... surely they're to blame 👍🏻😁

  28. If Glasgow had got beaten it would have been how terrible the track is but because they won no mention of how bad the track was.
    1 point
  29. Hmm. So Glasgow moan about Poole being too slick and that is why they can't win there. Yet Oxford is slick but they can win. So obviously not the reason! Reading through everything seems like Oxford are trying to save as much money as possible. Probably just what you have to do when you only have a short term future.

  31. I see that Cooper Rushen has had to withdraw from the semi-final because he can't get back in time following Saturday's European U19 meeting. Great scheduling once again

  32. But a good amount still get what they're owed. Even if its not everything thats been promised, they'll still get a considerable amount more than what they'll ever get in the UK. Ultimately Poland will do what's best for them, and with the investment they put into the sport rightfully so, and the riders will rightfully give preference to those that will offer the most to what is a short and unpredictable career. I feel situations like this are going to happen more, and we'll potentially see less willingness from the Polish sides to let their riders do as much abroad as they do currently.

  33. Terrible performance from Oxford, Masters was poor at Belle Vue but better, reserves who have been ok were awful, Kennett is clearly not up to it and Rowe showing why Poole let him go.

  34. The track was good the few times I went last year . It's almost like it's being prepped on the cheap , sadly Oxford are paying for signing a brilliant rider with issues, Riss .

  35. I would have thought he would have worked that out pretty quickly after watching other heats. Alas, he just kept blasting around the outside to no effect.

  36. Well done the Tigers for tonights victory,Hodder superb, well done Freddie, but what has happened to Harris Tonight his body language was as if '' i dont like the track, and if there is no increase in meetings next year am offski.'' He has not been at his usual best this year, perhaps slowing down to make sure he lasts the season. Need to keep going with Scunny here on Fri, another required victory.

  37. Come on mate that’s a bit out of touch don’t you think? Ive said time and time again about how much of a serious problem the country has with mental health illnesses. Yes he’s let the team down, but bagging people and Craig because of his mental health is just wrong. Do better.

  40. What was the reason for all of the other Wednesday's they've not ridden? Didn't want to run against Bake Off? 😜

  41. Pleased we have managed to secure a really solid rider at championship level to replace Craig. Can have mechanical issues at times and be a little guilty on occasions of retiring prematurely but he has a bit of class when he is in the mood. Looking forward to seeing him round Northside a track he goes well at.

  42. No "stars" at the NSS can often make a very good meeting... Maybe Richard Lawson may fancy it if Lambert and Bewley are not there?... Saturday night Speedway in Manchester... What's not to like?..

  44. It appears some comets " fans " want a superstar signing when none are available and on what could be a limited budget 🤔 imo kemp is a good signing, could be a bit like batch at times, but this year batch has done well for the Comets
    1 point
  45. I don't think it's Comets fans claiming Kemp is a poor signing it's others. Some comets fans just don't realise that Cook has been at fault quite a few times with his exploits away from the track but they defend him to the hilt with his mental health issues. Cook is a good rider but Workington could not continue with his commitment to not turning up and not riding.
