  1. The thing that annoys me more than anything is that it costs nothing to fix certain aspects of the sport, for example rider presentations/introduction's before a meeting, every single meeting I have been to this season has been an absolute shambles. All tracks should have a riders briefing meeting before every meeting telling the riders exactly how the introductions are going to take place and what is expected of the riders.

  4. See, you have to remember that a huge amount of the regular posters were "seniors", and sadly, old age has taken it's toll. Thing is, everybody was knowledgeable, everybody wanted to learn, and everybody wanted to "discuss" things in a reasonable and friendly manner. There has been an increased number of younger members who have come on board, and love to bitch about us old'uns living in the past. Same as speedway in general, I suppose? Those of us who are still hanging on have become disenchanted by all the crap and insults posted on here. The Years Gone By section was an incredibly active section of the forum, and that's what kept a lot of us going. Now, nobody seems interested in that, which is heartbreaking. Not only is speedway history such a big part of the sport, but we can learn from the past, instead of rolling on relentlessly, repeating the same mistakes that are/were never going to work. British speedway is NOT dead. It still has a future, yet judging by the majority of comments you see on the BSF and Facebook groups, you'd think that it was dead and buried years ago. No, that was just the civility and respect that we had on this forum years ago...

  9. We could actually put a good team together: 1. Bjorn Knutson 2. Reg Luckhurst 3. Norman Hunter 4. Bengt Jansson 5. Sverre Harrfeldt 6. Stan Stevens 7. Brian Leonard with Ted Ede and Terry Stone as back-ups in case of injury.

  10. I can only speak for myself, obviously, but Speedway is pretty much off my radar now apart from the Grand Prix - and my interest in that is nowhere near the level it once was. The two main reasons with me are pretty basic. 1 - I'm a Swindon fan. I don't have a team any more. This probably applies to fans of many of the once great sides like Coventry, Wolves, Reading, Cradley, Eastbourne, Hackney, Exeter, Arena-Essex blah blah blah. 2 - League racing is no longer on TNT/BT/Discovery or whatever you want to call it this week - so I have absolutely no idea whatsover what is happening any more. I don't even know who is doing well the league any more.

  11. I joined BSF at the beginning of 2010 when my son started riding at amateur level. At the time, it was the place for all the information & updates on amateur meetings, riding equipment buying & selling and was invaluable for technical help on bike maintenance etc. Sadly that section of the forum has been inactive for a number of years. I think that as smart phones became more widespread, Facebook groups took over from Internet forums. It was my first foray into the world of social media and I was surprised by the level of unpleasantness on here. It seems some people are incapable of processing opinions that differ to their own without resorting to belittling & random rudeness. I guess that applies to social media in general though, which is why I avoid it. When I first joined, Speedway was in a lot more people's living rooms because of the Sky coverage, so there was always plenty to discuss, but the only Speedway I see now is the GP so I don't contribute as much these days. I still visit regularly though to catch up on what's going on. I know that even after 16 years I'm still a relative newbie compared to some but it's good to still see familiar names that have been here for my entire BSF journey πŸ™‚

  12. As much as I would like that, I think it will be an easy win for the aces . Our team is far too inconsistent snd their heat leaders will far out score ours. keeping Batchelor was a terrible decision. Updates for the last meeting said he was tootling around at the back, not trying. That’s him to a tee. job on the line at Leicester, top scorer with best meeting of the season. job safe at Lynn, awful score which cost us the win, despite him being at reserve. A total waste of space

  15. Not many people to be honest, lowest crowd I’ve seen for a while. Saw Chris Louis in the balcony of the VIP on the way out, wonder what he thinks watching this season! I mean he partly created this weak team if we are being totally honest.

  16. Riders missing for pathetic reasons and going unpunished is a much bigger issue that needs fixing. Teams being allowed to sign riders knowing full well they will only ride in about 50-60 percent of fixtures (Klindt) is another and there are dozens of other rules and regs that need sorting. The guest facility has been around the whole near 30 years I have followed speedway, it sometimes works for teams other times not its the way it goes. Same as R/R. I kind of see your point, I am one of those that think in football that if a player has gone off genuinely injured they should be allowed to bring a sub on to replace him when they have already used all 5 of the allocated subs but that wont ever happen.

  17. The first four heats I thought I was watching an NDL meeting. Shockingly slow and like watching juniors going round the corners. Only Tobi and to be fair Brennan who really hit the ground running to start. Scotty did decent but he normally does at Foxhall. Edward’s good and then bad but in a 7 then you’d take that. Pedersen’s progress was amazing from his first race to his third so he just needs time. Brennan started good then fell off a cliff again, I don’t know if it’s rider or setup but something just isn’t right. All in all, dead atmosphere, average racing and decent weather.

  18. It is a huge shame they were not confirmed in the league sooner and had zero chance of building a competitive team. Constantly reading good reports about the place and would be gutting to see it ruined by a season full of defeats. Hope they turn the results around, Big H is a top bloke.

  19. All this talk from the Ipswich promotion about 2027 being β€˜the’ season makes me smile. The sport is on crutches in the UK and hobbles slower each year into the next season. If the Witches can assemble a decent team I hope for all of us that they are competing in a league that has some credibility.

  24. Not really... Hate the game, not the player. One of those "bomb proof" doubling up Heat Leaders who can just coast through a season in the UK... Edit: And are allowed to do exactly the same thing every single year, as they cannot get replaced due to hardly any better riders wanting to ride over here...

  25. Lions battled back in the end after getting to grips with the track and there was the odd decent race. I watched this on the Witches stream and wasn’t impressed with their presentation. The younger of the two commentators was amateurish and at times embarrassing. Makes me realise just how good David Rowe is when doing the stream for Lions TV.

  35. Think we will do well to hit 40 tonight, with Palm-Toft nowhere near what Danny would score, Kevin Juul Pedersen never even been to Foxhall before and Jason struggling a bit at the moment. The other three will need to hit big double figure scores. I hope I'm wrong but just can't see a Witches victory, but I will be there to cheer them on

  36. I’ll also add, taking a victory lap after winning a race. Riders, just bloody do it, it costs you naff all and you’re doing it for the people who contribute towards your wages. Take it a step further collect the team flag every time and take that on your victory lap with you.

  39. For one heat with Harris, Nicholls and Kennett in it I was transported back in time to to a place in the fabled Midlands area. And then I woke up and swallowed lump of asphalt that flew at me. Anyway, I enjoyed the meeting - both teams put in a good shift. But a particular big well done to the track staff - Sandy Lane has been well, sandy! Like a scene from Lawrence of Arabia. And I was expecting the same tonight. but thought it held up well considering the exceptional heat and dryness. Well done the men - and possibly women - in overalls.
