I do agree 100%, but.... Promotion and Relegation will be a pipe dream unfortunately due to so few riders willing to ride over here, and the many second tier crowds not bringing in the income to pay riders to ride exclusively for them, meaning DU'ing will remain forever... For me, some major prize for winning the top league is the thing that would generate interest... Sadly, pretty much since the Sky money disappeared, and a nationally recognised company, (Skybet), sponsored the league, winning any of the leagues has had little rewards... The last decade, in particular, unfortunately has rendered any league largely irrelevant given the lack of publicity, the crowd numbers reducing, and the farcical operating model which is now set in stone as fundamentally the only way they can keep running their tracks... The inescapable feeling is that the tracks are now just open so riders can earn a living, and promoters can rub shoulders with them, enjoying their hobby... Nothing more, nothing less..6 points

Totally agree this so called league is terrible, throw in the big gaps between home meetings, the amount of guests etc and its no wonder even die hard fans are walking away.5 points

This league is pants, and the sooner it's back to basics and one league the better. All I will say is congratulations must go to Lynn on a 60 year wait for a first ever win at Sheffield.4 points

The very same. We were regulars at Eastbourne and the children (16+20 now) were introduced to speedway in a carrycot. Week in , week out even in the NL days. We would go and watch speedway when they raced away at Lakeside and took them to Rye House when the opportunity allowed. Now with demise of Eastbourne (rinsed by Ian Jordan) and no Lakeside there is no speedway close to us in Greater London / Surrey. So we have had a trip to Oxford and a trip to Norfolk last year and watched a meeting at Kings Lynn + Ipswich but with no league racing on tv - HBO/TNT/BT it is now just a case of checking results on the BSN app + watching races on twitter. Our speedway fix now is the SGP series on TV, my daughter returns from University for each SGP and we watch it as a family. That's it !! The sport is in Cardiac arrest !!3 points

Surely there is a case for each rider to get a couple of laps to try the track before the meeting starts? This would prevent things like this happening. Riders out individually or teams get a 5-10 session beforehand. The reason matches generally get better are that riders figure the track out. Surely it would be better for the sport if they were prepared at heat one. I know people will say, riders should know etc etc but if track prep is unpredictable why risk it. Give the riders a chance to entertain the fans3 points

Tremendous level of sour grapes there, kudos To say there was no passing is nonsense Heat 4, Thomson gets third on the line almost second Heat 6 Grahn and Foord passed and repassed Heat 9 Paco on Allen Heat 10 Dan on Allen heat 14 Edwards on Cluff, Paco on Scott Heat 15 all 4 riders changed position at one point or another With a few other exciting enough races thrown in with Klindt buzzing about Thompson in 13 amongst them Iām not saying Armadale is gonna be confused with Belle Vue or Bydgoszcz anytime soon but to say there was no passing is laughably wrong.2 points

I have no interest in buying a stream. I've no idea what is going on any more so why would I? When there were matches on TV, and I knew the teams, I might occasionally have enough interest to buy one - but even that has gone now. No speedway on TV has killed it off to me. It's hard for me to believe now that I was once obsessed with this sport.2 points

The question is though of the crowds that they are getting, are they fans for other tracks that no longer run like P'boro or Coventy? the Foxes are not their team and never will be so they wont make a lot of noise if any if they get a 5-1, its like in the days when i used to go to Rye House, I didn't cheer for the Rockets, I went their as a neutral to watch second division as Arena Essex were in the first division and at that time you saw different riders in each division. If that is the case not winning at home is not important but going forward they will need to find their own fans, because the neutrals will drift away in time once they have got their fix and realised its not the same as watching their own teams which has gone. The sport in this country tends to build something, then think that's the job done and not build upon it, it has to be forward thinking all the time, you can't rest on your laurels, that's what too many did when times were better, its always reactive not proactive. As someone said on here, there are no signs around Northampton, the people who are going already know its there, your preaching to the converted.2 points

I agree with you, I know also itās a pipe dream and the only thing that would make it reality would be big sponsorship deals plus prize money for being in and win in the top league, respectively. Next year will be massive and Poland have a giant part to play. If they uphold their decision that only a rider can race in Poland plus one league (not country) then a lot of riders in the championship will have big decisions of what league to ride in as it may force their hand. If that happens then Poole and Glasgow will have a big decision regarding to stay in a watered down champ or move to the prem with potential TV money. Richard is clearly trying to move the sport this way and get the Prem as the so called āpromise landā. If this happens and you can stabilise it, then maybe, just maybe, promotion and relegation can be the next move. Where teams fear for relegation and loss of income and champ teams dream of promotion and financial gain.2 points

Can you imagine the phone conversations.... Foxes Promotion: Would you like to ride in the UK Prem next year? Speedway Rider: Maybe which team? Foxes Promotion: Northampton Speedway Rider: Who? Wheres that? Foxes Promotion: Braefield Speedway Rider: Whats a Braefield? Whats the track like? Foxes Promotion: Can't really tell you that yet.....we have got Troy Batchelor signed up Speedway Rider: hangs up phone.....2 points

I bet you Witches fans wish Chris Louis was still there. Much better team and track. This guy Coleman was like the lot who moved into Reading and called them the Bulldogs! All ended in tears and this could go the same way. When it comes to British Speedway this lot dont know their arse from their elbow.2 points

Will play devil's advocate here If he didn't think it was dangerous why agree to tyre pack? If he thought it would make it worse why agree to tyre pack? Do many referees really have any clue about a track? Would he have called it off if Ipswich refused to tyre pack? Would Leicester have refused to ride? If that's how the Witches want the track then it should be that way - it's not up to the opposition! I say that they should've called their bluff....2 points

How the standard of British finals has plummeted over the years matches the sports overall decline.2 points

One league wonāt make it better. What you really need to bring in new fans is two leagues which promotion and relegation. The sport needs jeopardy and punishment for finishing last.2 points

considering the very very limited rider options available to them when forming st the very last minute, the team has proven to be extremely competitive. we lost heavily at belle vue and Leicester on the bank holiday Monday when ZAGAR broke his ankle in the morning snd we were already running with guests to 70% of n k iversenās . we hsve taken almost every other match to a last heat decider. No one expected us to be any where near that competitive!!!! out problem is that we are a team full of inconsistent riders. Itās never the same rider each meeting ( apart from batchelor), but itās always someone. hence Klindt having three bike failures tonight for instance. this team is one of the decent rider away from being a playoff team. Problem is, getting that rider. Letās cross our fingers because if we do so quickly, we can still make the playoffs.2 points

Actually the team has been competitive more often than not, rarely get beaten by a lot, but unfortunately are getting beaten a lot.2 points

Couldnāt agree more with you. Iāve banged on about this before but been told itās not possible. Obviously too complicated this speedway business. To think they found a covid vaccine in a couple of monthsā¦.1 point

That was the first time we've ever won a league match at Sheffield since the two clubs started competing against each other 1966. In fact we've only ever won another two meetings at Owlerton, one being a KOC in 1976, and the other a BSPA Cup in 1992.1 point

On Witches Facebook responding to a taunt from a Witches fan about retiring at the back, Kemp said he lost his steel shoe in one race and had a puncture in another. I'm guessing his fall was tactical - certainly the sort of thing John Berry would have expected, e.g. if we can't get a 5-1, then keeping us 6 behind for a tactical is the next best ...1 point

Good assessment and I completely agree. I was also on second bend and the only bag bit about the track was it went slick in the second half and that's when Leicester began to dominate. It was good practice for Edwards to try and pay around the outside - you can see he's not confident with that but he was trying. I agree about difficulties, didn't really witness any, only from the Leicester riders who prefer it slick. Considering Ipswich had the world's worst guest and two others missing it was a great effort. Kemp was excellent value for the Lions. I see Lynn beat Sheffield too, so it's all to play for.1 point

Watched rerun on BSN (a lot of fast forwarding through FTG races) well done Kingās Lynn on a great comeback to grab all 3 points available on the night Know thereās not a lot of choice out there to replace Jack Holder (that will come at a cost thatās achievable to pay anyway) so unfortunately stuck with guests or R/R for the foreseeable, is there any chance Sheffield might look to strengthen the number 6 slot at reserve? Etheridge ok at Owlerton but usually unreliable away from there, wonder if any options of someone who maybe able to give them a bit more especially away from Owlerton, be interesting to see whatās out there on an average of just over 3 when converted from Championship (or historical Premiership) š¤·āāļø1 point

Paul Hurry is becoming a joke. Threw away a BP in our Home meeting vs. Belle Vue by not picking Rider of the Night (Musielak) and has now followed that up by blaming Stewart Dickson for track work taking place during a Home defeat to Leicester. I don't think Paul has a clue tbh and a new Team Manager for 2027 should be on Mayfield's list of jobs to do.1 point

That's a random take. I don't think any 'World Class' rider wouldn't sign on the basis of who rides when they're not there. Sheffield's home stats are also showing that Jack being missing shouldn't effect the result that greatly. Jack has averages less than 8.00 so far at home in 2026 & tonight the covering riders managed an 8.00 average. Sheffield was 10 up after 10 and 5-1'd heat 15. Only heat 13 the result could have been different but with that being possibly the strongest heat in a meeting, winning isn't guaranteed. It is an absolutely terrific result for the Stars and some credit should be given to them for turning around a 10 point deficit with 5 heats left. To do that away from home, especially at Sheffield, was an incredible turnaround.1 point

Expected result really Doyle showing again that he gives 110% in every meeting even if it is just before a GPā¦. No single figure score from him and did heat 15 with the match on the line1 point

Donāt agree with Hurry here The track was horrific early on and then was like riding on concrete1 point
-
Don't agree with that. Open to all sorts of manipulation. Rider replacement is swings and roundabouts. I have seen a team use it for a missing 5 point second string and the replacement rides getting a paid maximum. Also seen teams use it for a heatleader and get less. Rider replacement has been one of the more sensible rules and facilities in the sport for the last god knows how many years, last thing this sport needs is tinkering about with rules that don't need changing.1 point
