Yeah and this point is exactly why you can’t be a die hard speedway fans in the UK. Lynn and Sheffield are battling to be in the playoffs offs with Ipswich. So what happens… 2 Ipswich riders are in this match, that doesn’t make this sport attractive to fans. Riders, and rightly so, take guest bookings for money. But fans can’t support a league that has not loyalty to their club and is more like a merry-go-round. I’m so no bothered about Ipswich this season, I go to every home match but I’m certainly not invested in it as I would be to say football where it’s actually your club and players. If either Edwards or Lawson gets injured tonight, then a meeting that has nothing to do with their contracted club has just finished the season for their contracted club.

Bunch of muppets in here. Batch has never missed a meeting for Comets since he started. To suggest he simply didnt want to ride a track so has pulled out of every meeting this week is ridiculous. Yous lot can't put your hate for Batch aside for one second even though you have riders scoring 0 every meeting.

Exactly. Also if they score well tonight, especially Jason we may end up in 5th position and out of the play offs. This is the very thing that needs sorting out, I know the excuse from promoters will be there is a shortage of riders, thats irrelevant, in this type of situation they should do r/r if possible or get someone from the NDL, Also I wonder how the Lynn or Sheffield fans will feel if Lawson or Jason Edwards end up scoring badly tonight etc then scoring well on Thursday at Ipswich. This type situation is just diabolical and unacceptable for all fans. Mr. Coleman and other promoters take note - we are fed up with it, it nothing changes soon more of us will walk away from the sport.

CHAMP has been far too strong for a couple of seasons now to a point where it's been exploited by certain Clubs. Merge the NDL and CHAMP together to lower the wage bill and then put a block on riders who ride in any Polish League or Top Flight Danish/Swedish League from competing in the CHAMP in 2027. No fixture Clashes, Lower wage bill and a clear gap in quality between PREM and CHAMP over here.

I think that there appears to, finally, be an acceptance that the sport in the UK is "Donald Ducked" and change has to take place... However. Do the same people, who have brought all the issues, have the required skill set to make the right decisions?.. The evidence of their past lack of capability would say no, but hope springs eternal... Those trying to bring back the sport into closed down venues must despair given the current issues.. It cannot be easy to convince judges and authorities to side with you when you see "distress flares" going up from various places, and even 15 clubs unable to fil their teams with their own seven riders of the required level... Developers can point to a sport in consistent decline, which has been so for far too long, without, it appears, anyone capable of changing its course to better things... And some landlords of current tracks must also, quite naturally, be wondering if their tenants are going to be around in five years or so, especially if they are sat on some land which could deliver some excellent money... So much to unpick in UK Speedway, and, it appears, not too much time in which to do it, even if the capability is there in the first place..

Until championship speedway returns to a semi professional sport it will never be sustainable. How can our level of speedway be expected to finance flying riders around the world to ride. Leave that to the premiership and return our league to how things used to be when riders had jobs as well. Hardly a big ask when you're lucky if there are 4 meetings a month.

It's a credibility thing for me. I don't pretend to have the answers but borrowing riders from a rival team in a 6 club league is just bonkers. I'd get rid of guests completely if it was possible but even if not they need to be absolutely minimised.

Two points. Firstly - if they got injury for doubling up in their championship contracted club or other league or even SGP, so be it, because that is also their signed contractual obligations. What they do as guests is basically moonlighting and risking their actual clubs chances of a good season. Secondly - The comparison with football, although not directly the same, is relevant. That sport houses your players and your loyal fan base. These riders are for all intents and purposes your riders, they cannot ride against their second team be it in the championship or another league abroad as no European cups exist in speedway, therefore cannot directly impact ruining their actual clubs chances of a league position… when you introduce guest riders, that changes everything.

Dropping batch is an outrageous decision to be honest. He's posted today saying he has been doing physio and would have been back for this week's fixture. You've now replaced batch who in his last two meetings had top scored for Northampton with a young Aussie who has never rode around Northampton or many of the Premier League tracks at that. Baffling decision, especially when you have others in the team scoring close to zero every meeting.

There will be 200+'Guests this season in the two top leagues.. Imagine trying to sell such a sh*tshow to TV??.. "So, any of your riders can ride for any of your competitor's and score points that will prevent you from getting into the Play Offs?... "We will pass, thankyou".... Edit. Obviously I mean that guesting has been around for decades and no one doesn't attend UK Speedway just because of this.... And that using a regulation from 60 years ago, is perfect for a modern day 24/7 digital social media age....

Fair play Northampton, their management is doing a better job than us witches at the moment and I mean that. Good race nights, good team building, taking action on replacing riders when they can. We could learn a thing or two from over there. I really hope Northampton don’t finish bottom! I said Ellis should have replaced Lawson for us, we won’t win anything anyway, so at least give us a good team spirit and get people enjoying coming to Ipswich instead of sitting in the pits next to that moody bastard Lawson.

100%, however, at least, 10 years too late... When the Sky money went, and most of the worlds best with it, they should have pulled up the drawbridge and set out their own pathway... Instead, they decided to let Poland and the FIM dictate when they could and couldn't run.. And the 2nd tier got used to having tier one level riders getting subsidised by the upper level... With tier one happy, now the Sky money had gone, to use these riders also at a "reduced rate" compared to having to pay out for these riders by themselves... The result? Too many places being taken by too few riders, which then stifled development of UK riders, with a non stop stream of foreign journeymen entering and leaving using the UK Speedway revolving door... And, just to compound things, to ensure riders could DU, race nights were fixed, (not necessarily the best ones), but that was the only way clubs could actually put out a team of seven riders.. (Apologies, I mean it was done so GP riders could ride over here, because if they did the crowds all around the country would boom wouldn't they, and TV companies would fall over themselves to tender to cover it?!!!!) You have to hope that someone can see what not to do (ie the same old, same old), and build a clear strategy for growth... I like Richard Coleman's comments about just 300 extra at every track would be a game changer, as that puts into perspective where the sport actually is, and is surely a tangible realistic attainment given the conurbations so many tracks sit in... 300 x £20 is £6,000 x 15 matches per season = £90k... It must be worth paying someone a grand a week to try and get 300 extra punters through the door, (any random 300, they don't have to revisit), given the tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, if not millions, on the doorsteps of UK Speedway tracks, less than 45 mins away... Whatever they do decide, this time they cannot afford to keep getting it wrong..

I haven't said he has tried to kill anyone,but his recklessness could hurt someone.As I said I thought the Kubera incident could have been so different for him.Same for Madsen in Manchester, the reckless riding of Woryna could have had a different outcome for Madsen.Luckily both Madsen and Kubera walked away from two avoidable incidents.

The sport is dangerous enough without unnecessary reckless actions being taken ,I was glad to see the back of NP and his ilk ,I genuinely cannot comprehend anyone wanting to watch a rider deliberately fence another ,the consequences of these actions often lead to significant and often career ending injury .I have no issue with robust riding or if a mistake is made but to substitute skill and ability with fear that you don't care for your's or fellow riders safety has no place in this sport .

Good for him. However, the UK doesn't operate a squad system at present, so it's irrelevant whether he made it "perfectly clear" or not - if he's happy to sign a contract then honour it, if not then don't bother. My point was more that this type of stuff just gets overlooked so much, so continues to happen. It's too late now anyway, the ship has sailed, but it's just a bit sad to see fans brushing it off so lightly. Poole have had some of the world's best riders over the years, and were one of speedway's biggest clubs, yet fans are now seemingly unbothered that Zach Cook(!) is dumping them for a meeting in the Polish 2nd tier. I thought they'd be up in arms but perhaps that's just me.

Hi King Jamie the answer to your question is I simply dont know. On the face of it was a failing previously and I would hope harsh lessons were learned and proper remedial action and accounting steps were taken to prevent it happening again. Like you state if the same mistakes are repeated then that would indeed be unforgiveable and negligent. There is nothing old fashioned about expecting company officials to carry out their duties on time, nothing less should be expected . Without access to full audited financial accounts it is all just smoke and mirrors and chinese whispers regarding the financial situation of the club. We as supporters take information from our club in good faith without knowing any of the actual detail.

It's an interesting interview with JD, he's always been an honest guy. So has basically just told it how it is. Might get missed but he said that the club is in no danger at this present time, but I can totally see why it wouldn't be sustainable long term to run next season and beyond. I heard an averaged figure that the club is losing per meeting and although not ideal is probably pitance compared to what loss Sheffield and some Premiership clubs are running at. IMO it is more a problem with certain factors out of our hands. The UK cost of living, rising costs of running a meeting and compounded by the British Speedway logic as a whole, when I look around the Arena the crowd levels don't strike me as that bad, the number of sponsorship boards is remarkable, crowd levels are probably what I would expect given what we are and where we are, and the fact we don't live in a pre-90's (pre-digital) age anymore, which is often forgotten on here. Big changes are needed, and promotors like Mark Lemon need to get their head out of their arses and stop believing that a Premiership model with GP riders is sustainable for the good of British Speedway, and think of the bigger picture for every speedway club to survive, that in itself does more damage than anything I believe, it is proven time and time again that the 2nd tier racing is the most competitive and exciting league IMO. 5 man teams would be a must for me for starters, and for the Comets it's amazing how much of a diference the crowd is when we face Glasgow, Redcar, Edinburgh etc. so more localised speedway would help. Fans still seem to travel in numbers to away meetings from what i've seen, and Comets fans certainely repay the favour, there was loads that travelled to Redcar recently for example.

Absolutely, whilst it was good to win it for the first time in 30 years, the prize becomes more and more pointless as the years go by.

But that can happen without guesting as well, due to riders in multiple leagues, doubling up, GPs, etc. The year that Sheffield won the playoffs they lost 6 riders to injury at some point during the season, and only one of them was injured riding for Sheffield. The comparison with football is irrelevant whilever riders are allowed to compete in 2 or 3 countries. They are never riders for your club exclusively.

Think uk speedway is now comparable to level 5,level 6 football, tho attendances and stadium facilities would be better at level 5, and a lot of level 6 would also be better than speedway, so need to be thinking at this level and realise speedway is now only ever going to be minority sport with limited public appeal,start with a majority of part time riders!

It was Max not Brady. Easy mistake to make given our play off injury jinx. Brady was injured the year before with Charles being the one to miss out the following year.

I meant in general,,years ago teams would drop a rider to get another in just for the playoffs, they didnt do the UK but came in just for it

A great days racing from Poland that had everything from nip and tuck racing to enthusiastic crowds. You could not ask for more as the riders never back off and chase every point. Thanks to all riders/teams for today’s entertainment and special thanks to those providing the links that enable us to watch great racing.

Which will then force the hand of a couple of clubs to make the move up, possibly. That’s the plan..

The riders wages demands at Championship level are really a major problem but that will never be resolved now.Crowds certainly don’t cover the costs nowadays at most track in UK.Workington is a brilliant set up,shame if that going to be lost to League.The appalling fixture planning (again to suit riders needs) is another factor.Regular fixtures needed to keep fans interested.IMO

Comets were reborn in this era by Andrew Bain who transformed the old Northside training track into the fantastic arena and racetrack it is now, in 2023 ran NDL was going to be a 2nd season of NDL until Godfrey and co disbanded the set up as was. Comets went into the main league in 2024 crowds were ok ish, think the problem this year was the very disjointed fixtures, weeks between meetings,
