Find all these opinions on Lawson quite odd. I have found he is one of the easiest riders to deal with, very team based and so helpful to the younger riders at Poole

Hi Gavan, Please do us all a favour and stay off of any Poole threads. You're at times completely toxic and if you can't find something nice to say then keep you opinions to your self.

Think the main issue with Lawson yesterday was the timing of letting ipswich know Despite his post saying they tried, at least give ipswich a heads up maybe that morning "Hey boss, my wife isn't well, we're trying to arrange help but if we can't i will have to miss tonight and look after my child" Not just phone a few hours before the meeting and drop it

Why would anyone link it to taking drugs???.. His baby needed looking after and he had to do it due to nobody else being available... A very common occurance when I worked, several times myself I had to do it, and I went in work later once I had found someone to look after my kids.. Hard to go in later if there isn't the opportunity to do so.... These lads simply ride Speedway to earn money, it isn't some kind of emotional tie in for them, eg Kyle Howarth said he didn't miss not riding in the Final of one of only two competitions when he stopped riding before the second leg... Some people seem to take UK Speedway very seriously, which baffles me...

Gavan has still got the hump that Leicester won the cup last week plus his nurse has not given him his usual happy pills today so he is a bit upset. He is also upset with the Ipswich promotion did not sign Ellis to replace Richard earlier in the season given his 20 points last night!

Missing the point Lawson has messed us around before … isn’t a team player and isn’t liked by the other riders much Nobody is suggesting you don’t put your family first …. But to let the team down at nearly 5pm is wrong He isn’t liked at Ipswich but I’ve no issue if he is good as gold for Poole Doesnt do parade and doesn’t come round after the meeting either i think Ipswich and the fans have had enough

Why not just leave it up in the corner, though? Easier than trying to remember 4 different scores when they flash up every so often. Sky Sports had it right as always.

I think you are misreading the signs!! The vast majority of Ipswich want YOU gone! Poole fans see him as their number 1 who top scores most meetings in most track conditions. He takes his place for the parade so fans aren't that bothered that he may have only arrived at the track a few meetings before.

Guests aren't going to hinder Poole at Berwick. Masters dropped one point in six rides there last month, Richard only won two races in the KO Cup. Even better for Pirates is having Eddie Kennett as a guest reserve, as he might not be hindered by all the unlucky engine failures he has for Oxford, when his average is rolling.

You can’t. Only if the full one to six collectively comes under the 37 points limit. Otherwise it’s like for like on an individual basis. You can’t just add up Lawson’s and Nicholls combined average and then bring in another two up to that figure. It has to be a single replacement for Lawson up to his GSA, and a single replacement for Nicholls up to his current GSA.

Let me get this right, at 17:50pm he rang to say he cant come, doesnt he live poole way so probably a 2-3 hour drive to ipswich, riders aim to get to track about half 5, so he would have been aiming to set off from his house at around 3pm, so why is he waiting until that late in the day to tell the club, something doesnt add u. and then to start a facebook statement like that makes you look guilty, ive looked everywhere and not seen any suggestions hes a druggie.

For a good chunk of the mid 70’s he was my favourite rider. Great exponent of the cut back coming out of turns 2 or 4. Rip Arthur.

So much actually goes back to that lack of independent strong leadership for the sport... Riders can get bans but still have every possibility that even before they ride for either of their teams again, some promoter will call and ask them to guest... Riders, of a certain level, know they are far too much in demand to have any real sanction against them... And, in a sport with so little to "play for" I am not sure why bans are in place, given it is the rider who hasn't earned money, so he is the main loser due to the situation.. And some bans can mean the rider misses no meetings...

But the rocket man rides for Poole, and we all know how they bend the rules to suit themselves. But IMO this is not the 1st time said person has done something similar, should definitely be a 7 day ban but could be 28 days

All conjecture... Maybe he did have a solution and that, for whatever reason didn't happen? Hence he then had to call later in the day?... When my wife was ill the night before I was at work, I always waited till the next morning before making a decision given she may have improved... I don't get fans almost taking a rider missing a meeting personally, no one will lose out more than the rider himself, both on the night and possibly whilst serving a ban...

On a more positive note, how good was it to see Adam Ellis on fire. As many said last night he should have been in our side from the start.

Vinnie Foord guests in place of Jordy. Reid Battye? Has he even seen Armadale? Certainly never raced there. Surprised it isn't Dayle Wood guesting. Kyle replacement, per the rules tonight is 11th league match, so 75% of fixtures (BSN + league). Tigers have to declare replacement before tonights meeting or they cannot make any changes. So replacement should be public knowledge soon

I think Stevelyric is correct on this one. It was often the case years ago that riders would prefer a slick dustbowl to a nice grippy track. Tim Stone often got quizzed on why the track was always so slick every Sunday at Newport and he would always reply that riders wanted it like that. I remember one year Stonehewer nearly having a seizure when he seen the water bowser going out with the tractors. I guess its safer for riders rather than a deep, grippy track. Who knows.

The previous comments are correct we have debated the fact that something needs to happen since I joined the forum a couple of years ago. It always appears to be that the Promoters cant see the bleeding obvious. It doesnt matter how well their track / team is doing if theres no opposition to ride against, for me riding against the same four or five teams isnt entertaining and definitely not when riders are in multiple teams. I dont know the answer but a premier and championship format isnt it. One big league, smaller teams maybe 5 riders, no doubling up. I think the concept of supporting a team is not as strong now because teams seem to be more fluid with guests etc.

I don't think anyone will argue that its right to prioritise your family over everything However this situation doesnt seem to have just appeared out of nowhere at tea time and as a professional sportsman the very least expected would be timely communication Informing the club only 2/3 hours before tapes up is unacceptable Perhaps a bit more controversial/devil's advocate observation. Could the fact that he couldn't find any help from family/friends be linked to his general attitude and apparent ease of falling out with people? (Pure conjecture on my part)

Maybe a 7 day ban coming 🤔 missing another meeting at short notice,

First visit to Cowley this season, looked to be a good crowd in there which is great to see for the promotion. Decent racing I thought and Picko was a class above apart from when his engine decided it had had enough in heat 13. Strange to be at a meeting as a neutral so not really sure who I wanted to win but good support for all 14 riders from both sets of fans. Probably a fair result overall on the night. Thought the presentation of the meeting was good and after having my first go with a mic in hand on Saturday night appreciate it isn't the easiest thing to do! What is with the term 'track technicians' though when they are having a good old grading and watering break. Fair play to these 'tech' guys though as they did their best to keep the dust down although it did get a little dusty at times our tactical viewing spot of being upwind from the direction of the dust travel worked! Reasonable run home through the traffic cones but just failed on the Cinderella front as was back in Somerset at 00.01!
