  1. Would that of been the reason the start marshall stood in a dangerous position to hold the broken tapes back the other season when Poole riders were in the lead because the ref told him to via his headset.

  2. Well, if the shoe fits, Arthur. You’ve had a cheating incident as recently as your last meeting. You’ve also got a Rushen riding for you. No-one else has been allowed one since the Ukraine war.

  3. Small part of an interview with Jamie Courtney on BBC Radio Oxford lunchtime news today. He confirms its Championship for Oxford in 2027. Full interview will be on the Heat 16 podcast at 6pm tonight. You can listen again afterwards on BBC Sounds.

  4. Racing is only a small part of it though. The racing in the 70's was no better than now and if it was just what happens on track then Workington, Scunthorpe, Glasgow and BV would be bursting at the seams for every meeting. It's a jigsaw puzzle with loads of bits missing - irregular meetings, doubling up, guests, flimsy call offs, lack of variety, poor presentation, no atmosphere. Most people will want a professionally presented, VFM, enjoyable night out and that really shouldn't be difficult to deliver.

  5. We’ve been putting our case forward since closure. They are aware of this, some councillors desperately want us to naff off, we’re not going anywhere. If anything our case is getting stronger. I can’t wait to speak in front of a proper independent knowledgeable government planning inspector, our council are going to get their backsides kicked hard. They have massively under estimated us and our supporters who I must say have been magnificent throughout this process. I am more confident now since closure that Speedway will return to Peterborough.

  6. Your head would be turned if offered an Extraleague Position late in your career (provided he gets paid). If sitting in the pits pays more than 5rides a meeting in GB good luck to him. Charles is a 100% rider and wish him well whatever comes up.

  7. Update from Freddie Hodder A little update from me. I suffered a broken femur in the crash and underwent surgery last night. The focus turns completely to recovering and getting myself back to full fitness. It’s obviously a tough one to take, especially after what had been a positive season, but I’ll be doing everything I can to come back stronger. A massive thank you to Leon Flint, Luboš Vráček, my dad and everyone else who has helped and supported me. It genuinely means a lot.

  8. Welcome to Glasgow, Luke Harrison. 🤑

  9. If that’s the case, we need to throw a Neymar-like deal at him. And by that, I mean we do what Barca did and send a lap dancer to his dad’s house at least one every week. @phillwhitewasmad Don’t worry, we’ve got you.

  10. You may not like it but plenty do including 7 times British champion and quite a few top riders at championship level. British speedway can ill afford to lose any track despite your opinion.

  14. Agreed Mike if I was ever a promoter my first job would be to get a survey put together for past fans to complete as to why they no longer go, granted we can guess most of the reasons but I bet there's a host of others to. The big challenge at the moment is even if you came in as a new promoter with say 200k you could burn through in a season without blinking, you put together an attractive side , you move fast to get quality replacements for long term injuries etc you know in the current environment visiting teams will be turning up every other week with 1-2 riders missing, r/r etc. So somehow its not enough to have 2-3 forward looking promoters you need every single one to agree to level up.

  15. At 24 Kvech is still a youngster in GP terms which would make him my preferred choice.

  16. People are too woke to handle a bit of banter, needle and wind up these days. Hence why Comedians aren't allowed to speak the truth during their gigs anymore.

  17. That is absolutely awful from Plymouth.😂 I’m laughing, but that’s so poor. It’s the biggest meeting of the season and Gladiators’ fans will already be gutted about the first leg, but instead of a galvanising article, it’s: we need £46K or you’ll have no speedway next season. What a prospect, walking into the Coliseum; about a 2% chance of winning the trophy and faced with the prospect this will be the last meeting at Plymouth. P*ss poor from the powers that be at Plymouth and a prime example of why British speedway is in the state it’s in. In other sports, sensibility prevails. In British speedway, it doesn’t. Remarkable that’s been given the green light for release. At least two grown adults have read that and thought “yeah, that’ll do”.

  18. Unfortunately these days King's Lynn's Saddlebow Road Stadium is more a car track than a speedway track. Indeed without stock cars its highly unlikely speedway would continue on its own. The basic economics above mean that Buster will naturally prioritise the cars and hes kind of let the bikes "tread water, go through the motions" but due to his first sporting love being speedway he has always ensured the sports kept going there apart from the 1996 and covid seasons. King's Lynn had a lot of criticism about this years team but they signed Fricke the Leagues top rider and Cooper Rushen one of the best youngsters on the planet. As for the mid to late 1980's struggles, Martin Rogers took over the promotion from the stadium owners in 1983 when the Cranes and Littlechilds had got to a point of not wanting to subsidise the Stars any longer so cut their losses by making money from leasing it out to Rogers. The Rogers era was run on a tight budget that became a shoestring budget after a crippling 1985 season which meant that the 86 and 87 seasons were just about surviving which was a success in itself despite two woeful bottom finishes with weak teams. The 1984 team came 6th in the BL and was cheaper than the poor team that came bottom the following year. Rogers considered dropping into the NL around 86/87 but was shot down by fans who insisted they wanted top flight or nothing at all. 17 years later in 2003 Lynn finally dropped down and it was a breath of fresh air which gave the place fresh energy and atmosphere. King's Lynn are long overdue a decent season seriously challenging which would help to increase enthusiasm levels but there will come a time in the next decade when someone will need to take over the reins from Buster Chapman who like him or loath him has done more than anyone to keep KL speedway going in the last 40 years so has earnt his retirement.

  19. Signing Jody Scott should be the priority. Would also keep Pijper. Wright would normally be a shoe in but I'm not sure now his heads been turned by Poland. How many meetings will he miss when he prioritises Poland over Redcar? Would chase the rest. The management also seem a bit too friendly with some riders. They need to be a bit tougher with the underperforming riders.

  23. Janowski figure is realistic of where he is today it was achieved after 2 years at Oxford. Also on media day in 2024 his main reasons for coming back was easy money. Sorry it’s a no from me, however if he ends up at Ipswich I’ll give him my support. Brennan is a different kettle of fish. Average dropped like a stone after a bad injury & the pressure of riding at number 1 for the bulk of the season. I have high hopes for the link up with Wroclaw however if that delivers Jankowski I’ll be disappointed.

  24. So Wroclaw will have 3 riders in the GP Series. Bewley, Kurtz and Janowski. Who is missing?

  25. We could all put our preferred line ups on here and I doubt any of us would name the same septet. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Janowski is a world beater capable of a 9, or even 8 point average here anymore. But for me he’s a seven pointer potentially therefore a point increase. Janowski on a 6 in the middle order makes much more sense than King on 7.27. Not all signings have to Jump out at you, you just have to build smart to be successful. Despite being without doubt our best riders this year, neither King nor Musielak have much (if any) improvement in their averages therefore you don’t sign them for ‘27.

  26. Therefore let them in for free... Give the away track 100 tickets to distribute... Not many, if any sometimes, attend now so minimal loss.. For local derbies that do bring a following, then don't do it...

  27. The relief at seeing Janowski just miss out qualifying through the SEC didn't last long then.

  28. Hence a 6 point average. He’s better than that.

  29. The irony in that is at Leicester you genuinely can't hear anything, so I never do hear the time, or the result, or the interviews for that matter. The speaker where I stand packed up early this season, have they fixed it? Nope. And even if they do fix it the PA has all the quality of an old Working Men's Club. What do they play after Leicester win; Glad All over by the Dave Clark Five. Cutting edge it isn't.

  30. At this point just take it up with Putin personally?I'm sure he'll rethink his actions if he knows they can't participate at the highest level in a sport he's never heard of! It ain't happening, there's more chance of me bedding Dua Lipa then the Russians getting a call up while a war is on, move on.

  31. So Laguta scored 16+1 yesterday and still no wild card.

  32. Exactly, so little point in discussing their possible inclusion until and if restrictions are removed. Freddie should get the 3rd WC on past GP form, he was World #3 or 4 at time of his injury, struggled with full fitness since his return, and given he would be the only Swede in the game. As it stands, the prospects would appear to be Thomsen, Janoswki, Kvech, Jacobsen, and maybe Michelsen for the 4th wildcard. Thomsen has been brilliant all season in the Leagues but has not produced his best other than on one occasion in the GP's. Janowski has had his chances to qualify and fallen just short, and Mikkelsen until recently has been below his best. I'm inclined to think that the FIM mentality still holds a trace of geography over form being a consideration which will leave me unsurprised if the nod goes to Kvech or maybe Jacobsen.

  37. On Socials good to see that the fans turned out in good numbers for Woffinden's Testimonial. Whatever you think of Tai , he is a modern day speedway superstar and 3x World Champion - wish him well in his next chapter !! 🤘

  42. I always cringe when clubs make such threats to the fans. Seen it at Newport with Mallett nearly every week begging for more fans through the gate and it honestly usually made the crowds for the next meeting worse. Clubs should be able to provide everything required to operate without making threats. An insult to the paying fans who have attended all season.
    1 point
  43. Yes. As far as I'm aware the only reason they are closed for speedway is the requirement for stewards. They are open when car racing is on.
