  1. I disagree with some of what you say. The likes of Len Silver who promoted during the boom years of the 70s & 80s are part of the problem. They lacked foresight to invest in the future of the sport & the decline started on the watch of promoters like silver. The promoters at the backend of the 90s & into the 2000s certainly failed to grasp the golden ticket of sky tv
  2. Just wait & see their faces when Chris Harris arrives dressed a rich tea to guest in place of the Aldi digestives who have other commitments!
  3. Loram rode in the British League for Hackney in 1987 when 16. He then had two years at National League level in 88/89 with Hackney & Ipswich before returning to the British League full time at Lynn.
  4. I fully agree test speedway would be a massive boost & paint the sport in a completely different light. one series a summer on a cycle just like cricket.
  5. The biggest issue with league speedway is the way it’s ran. The operating model isn’t fit for purpose & is massively contrived. The issues stem from years of poor management & no real desire to grow the product. The golden ticket was during the first sky contract, a tv partner who wanted to invest & paid a very good sum for the broadcast rights. That came at a time when the majority of the worlds best still rode here & the gp came to Cardiff. I still remember Mark Loram being featured on the back page of the sun newspaper on a Saturday. But instead of investing the promoters at the time spent the money on propping up what they had been doing for years, With no hope of a return on the investment or any signs of progress the money Sky have slowly declined until they binned it of altogether. To have a meaningful league structure that allows emotional buy in guesting & doubling has to stop & it has to be ran properly. Now that’s where the issue is it’s now to late to save not enough venues not enough riders & far to few spectators.
  6. I think they are still classified as official British speedway merchandise
  7. Interesting result last night…..might we edge Leicester out??
  8. Any ideas when Thompson is likely to be fit? Just seen that Jason Edwards has signed for Sheffield
  9. The issue with King is his disappearance at vital times when you need a skipper’s performance. Heat 12 this year has certainly been an issue.
  10. If the BSPL don’t like what Bomber has to say they’ll just tell him he doesn’t have to turn up like the thousands of ex supporters who have been given the same advise over the years
  11. Ipswich have had three of the most naturally gifted riders in the last 30 years ride for them. Tony, Tomasz & Emil all have bags of natural talent & all managed to crack Foxhall in their first meeting. All adapted very quickly to the tighter more challenging uk circuits. while we no longer have the strength of the polish league the uk certainly sorts the wheat from the chaff. I have a feeling the current world champion wouldn’t fair very well over here.
  12. The best thing that never happened he would have been a disaster
  13. Rew was always going to be more than a one season project especially after the back injury & not starting at reserve. Riss would have generally maintained his average had it not been for the illness issues. That’s my opinion I’m sure plenty including yourself will disagree. However if the regs allow Doyle & Emil should both be retained the clubs been much better for having those two guys around.
  14. If the regulations stay the same then personally I’d have Emil & Doyle with Riss, Rew & Dan Thompson from this years side Rew & Riss will both be on much lower averages than this year so that makes up for the Emil/Doyle increase. Rew to start at reserve Doyle as skipper & 2 new faces.
  15. It would be great to see how Zmarzlik would get on, more Laguta than Emil I think. He’d show himself up. Anyway back to last night we’ll done the Ipswich 5, & good to see Riss looking competitive.
  16. Artem was a massive disappointment last night & not to appear in heat 13 a disgrace. Are you sure it’s not KK in disguise? He doesn’t appear to have the track craft & throttle control.
  17. Emil is probably the best all round rider in terms of track craft & how approachable he is since Tony. Hopefully there is a way he can return next year
  18. He said the same about Peterborough last year….better get ready to welcome him to Foxhall in 24!
  19. Depends on how you define greatest I guess. If it’s on world title then Woffy is certainly in a league of his own. However if it’s on track craft, service to club, country & British speedway then there are plenty who are greater. Peter Collins for example or from my era Louis, Loram, Havelock, Screen are all ranked higher in my opinion.
  20. Emil , Doyle for sure next season. Riss maybe depending on how he performs for the rest of this season. After investing in Rew this year he has got to come back as I think there is a great rider in there. Although all that depends on league structure for next year, that might not allow for riders like Emil & Doyle. King certainly needs a year away
  21. I quite agree regarding the golden heat & play offs both divides opinion but certainly add something. Speedway used to have a great tournament the old 4s, in the NL days. Something different at your local track when the qualifying round was there. Finals day at Peterborough was awesome 2 semi finals & a final in one day…..that would be a great meeting to sell to Tv. The highlights used to be on itv!
