I say again 97 different riders rode in the UK last year

And if there were to be one big league next year, the best we could hope for would be around 70 available riders (at best) r along with a wide spread of ability and competitiveness from good to absolute no chancers.

I agree.

Just thought I'd raise the point though considering TNT will have to add some content in order to get people to sign up.

BT 50% owner of TNT looking for a buyer of their half of the business and believe it or not Warner Bros. Discovery are in advanced talks to acquire

Another excellent Speedway Star this week...

Covering the current malaise in detail with a thought provoking piece by Paul Burbridge, and also Peter Oakes making a suggestion for two leagues of seven, but of the same level, and with promotion and relegation involved..

Reading both pieces it looks like they must "lurk" on here...:D

Which does give hope that at least some insiders within the "Speedway Bubble Echo Chamber" do see opportunities that are not same old/same old, rinse and repeat ad infinitum...

For anyone wanting details, it costs £3.60, and is available on subscription for less, and digital for less...

And is a cracking publication considering it covers such a poorly led sport...

NB. There is also an interview with Richard Coleman of Mayfield Sports re possible GP expansion outside Europe...

I am amazed he found the time to do it!!!!:D

Promotion and relegation? Please make it happen. There’s plenty on here who say it wouldn’t work. If Peter Oakes suggests it then that’s good enough for me.

Speedway had that before (1991-1994) and in those 4 seasons, 3 of the league winners refused promotion. It went to 1 big league in 1995 but the 94 winners had refused promotion in 93 and also would have refused in 94 for the same reasons. Those same reasons still exist in 2025 so I can't see it working

To be fair, it was ever thus...

Self-employed workers being "assets" springs to mind as one of the biggest challenges that could have been made down the years ..

With these self employed people getting banned for withholding their services when not being paid, being particularly something that would get slaughtered...

No asset system anymore obviously...

The contact is less self employed "provision of a service" and more a fixed term contact that terminates at 23:59 on 31st October.

So more of a sideways move than promotion/relegation 🤣

When we are desperately casting around for more teams in the top tier, introducing a provision that forcibly removes removes one, seems, somewhat reckless.

How about this for an "Outside The Box" idea.

Premiership continues with 5 teams, home & away twice. 2 Championship clubs have a 2nd team on a Monday or Thursday were they just have 1 round of fixtures except against each other, allowing them to put their feelers out with their supporters as to whether they go Premiership in 2027 or 2028.

Could Championship clubs like Glasgow & Poole finance just 10 extra fixtures??

You may as well add Lord Lucan to your list and make it 152 - he would be as useful as half the names on there towards making a viable league

For the vulnerable on here is he still riding? I’m sure I heard he was now plying his trade Bahia Blanca.

Like Ive said before. The clubs dictating the rules to the governing body. It’s laughable for a professional sport to allow that.
