What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

Think I read previously that this has been looked at fairly recently but there’s a rule that means it can’t happen as it’s too close to Kings Lynn?

I believe it was something to do with the previous manager enquired but because it was within 30 miles of KL there is a rule saying a new track cannot open within that distance.

As an aside, I see Swaffham raceway is for sale at £1.6m so if someone has deep pockets you have a ready made arena and probably a better chance of gaining punters rather than Northampton albeit I guess Kings Lynn would not be happy but hey, it could be for the good of the sport so some sacrifices need to be made. No one really complained when you had several tracks operating in London at the same time. It says the current owners would consider leasing it.

Completely different scenario in an extremely densely populated conurbation like London. A speedway team in Swaffham would be tapping into the very same customer base that go to Lynn in a part of the world which is relatively sparsely populated. Just dont think it would work for either venue.

It’s 14 miles betweeen two stadiums and not many people. Speedway at swaffham has been talked bout for best part of 40 years.

Wonder what all the premier league promotions are all doing today ? Do you think they are all in a room thrashing out some sort of solution or do you think they all out shopping with the family ?

I think/presume that there was a proposed solution prior to Chris Louis quitting. Today's plan was probably to go shopping with the family and hope someone else buys a speedway club (Ipswich).

That would depend on whether Louis quit because he wasn't happy with what was agreed, or did he quit because they couldn't find up with a plan (for the sake of the sport I hope it is the former but I don't have any insider info)

We’ve reached the point of no return now . Ever dwindling crowds , hardly any interest from today’s generation, meaningless meetings against the same teams over and over again, clubs laughing in the face of the so called governing body by dictating to them where and when they will operate. No ambition to go as high as possible, just reach the season’s end. Only to do it all over again the following season. Doomsday. At least Liverpool keep my spirits up every weekend 😂

Yeah British Speedway is as dead in the water as Arne Slot's career at Liverpool.

Klopp will save Liverpool.......Nobody will save British Speedway though.

Exactly this, the 1 big league with Ipswich and belle vue in it is actually quite an exciting prospect imo

From Edinburgh/Glasgow, down to Poole/Plymouth, the league would cover a fair few conurbations, with several million people living in them, and look like it fully covered the country, pretty much from top to bottom..

"Northern Tours" for all last seasons Premiership teams' fans on Friday and Saturday may even get coaches and hotels booked and "supporter's clubs" could maybe rear their head again...

Sheffield on a Thursday, the NSS on a Friday and "further up north" on Saturday would give the more southern based clubs' fans, even more of a "Northern Tour"..

With the clubs in the further north all riding Friday and Saturday it would be perfect in getting a fair few away fans there from teams who haven't even been there in some cases, and not been there for a good while in others...

Who knows, maybe clubs could package special offer reduced price deals to the away fans to encourage their attendance..?

Ipswich on a Thursday and maybe KIngs Lynn on a Friday could also deliver some "East Anglian Tours"...

Sheffield/Scunthorpe on Thursday and Friday could also get some away fan traction...

And there will be many other "mixing" which could take place to "get an away crowd" there...

There would be a big novelty factor which should be rode to the max, until it came to its inevitable end..

By which time, you would hope that the sport was on a clear upturn and big momentum was in place to keep it growing...

Used to love the weekenders following the Comets to Canterbury and Eastbourne. Maybe Poole and Plymouth will be as enjoyable?

Mike for chairman has to be the mantra for the forum.
Only one minor issue, the cost for the travelling supporter and if it was a north/ south league arrangement and the top teams coming together in a final then the regions would hopefully reap the benefits.

Now is the time for the sport to reinvent itself and look to a five year plan to rebuild its place in the speedway world.

Most will hope that no teams/tracks/clubs are lost to the sport in 2026 and if the same number of tracks can remain open, you have hope. Allow some to fall by the wayside and it is game over for the sport. Forget TV deals, let BSN show the meetings and in the winter they could do a deal that repeats the meetings at a discounted price.

Make sure the young up and coming riders are encouraged and get back to bringing on new talent instead of dismissing their efforts because they cannot take on heat leaders etc. I have seen many newbies over the years who try hard and occasionally get one over a more experienced rider which breeds confidence. The sport needs them to survive so embrace them rather than dismissing the efforts of these youngsters. They are the future.
