The trouble with any pricing policy is that you are competing for a dwindling pot of disposal income. If a family of four have for example Sky and one of the other streaming services it could feasibly be costing circa £100 per month, then if the children have mobile phones that is another potential £80 to £100 per month for all four and then the children have other activities which have associated costs and then you can see with general household expenditure and a mortgage etc, not a lot left to spend on going out.
That is where you look at value for money  and you then hit the argument of x amount for tickets for fifteen minutes of entertainment and compare that to say banger racing or stock cars where you get several hours of racing. Not an easy problem to solve but punters will probably look at value for money and speedway does not cut it if you are trying to attract a new generation of supporters at a price point that makes it an attractive option with everything else that is trying to attract your hard earned pound.

Absolutely....

Then add in a less than authentic operating model which means that so important emotional attachment to "Your Team" becomes a tenuous one at best, (you almost have to collude along with a promoter that a UK Speedway meeting has relevance given the lack of any major tangible rewards), and you do have some serious obstacles to overcome...

A big challenge, but hopefully those involved have the skill set to deliver a successful venture..

Good call in the 80's & early 90's you had bills like the mortgage, utilities and food but in the modern world you can add on as you say Sky, Streaming, Wifi, mobiles, subsidising kids mobiles ,easily another £150- £200 a month going out the door on things now viewed as essentials that speedway didn't have to compete against thirty years ago.

Sheffield are “freezing” their admission price of £25. So a book of 10 meetings totals a grand old saving of, ZERO pounds!

Yes, you get a few little bits and bobs thrown in, team photo, birthday card etc, but who on earth is going to lump up £250 in one hit rather than “pay as you go” for the same price?

Only benefit for those that park at the Stadium is saving £3 per meeting for parking so that’s £30 for the 10 meetings

Basic life economics and totally relevant.

I would imagine £26 will be there or thereabouts for the top tier this season...

A hard sell if so....

Maybe some strong promotion will take place across the country if no TV deal to fall back on?

Good idea....

If that doesn't pack 'em in, I really don't know what will...:D

Free exit before the end of a painfully boring meeting or no charge for sugar with a hot drink unless it is soup. Alternatively, how about a second half with NDL riders to give both punters and riders some optimism that the sport has a future.

The mind-numbing game of throwing balls at a line inside of the track during the interval should do it. So very 21st century.

more music like this 😎

Myself and 2 mates ( one of which went to Broadmoor, but enough of that) ran a mobile disco for a couple of years in my late teens with 2 Garrard SP25 MKIV decks running through a Marshall Valve amp and 2 Marshall cabinets, no sound to light in those days, lots of lights powered by rotary columns of microswitches on different dwell cams, all taken from old Xerox copier mechanical timing arrays.

Engaging with the youngsters is such a pain for us long time attendees. Quite why the track shop doesn’t stock club flasks and comfy cushions is beyond me. Could we ban kids altogether or is that just happening by default due to the jolly nature of those older fans around them.

It's past getting  the point where people now don't care what happens, then will be thinking twice about attending speedway in the future, then if the punters don't attend the promoters business plan ( if they have one ) goes out of the window.  This applies to not just Ipswich it's the whole fookin sport

Agreed.  I'm also not sure how long Mayfield sports will be around.

Think most regular speedway fans would have said we have to a step back and regroup, but the men in charge seem intent on self destruction.IMO.

The Premiership is only in name apart from I/2 doz riders.

I dunno actually. We think along those lines because we’re part of a very very small pool of supporters that regularly frequent this forum. The vast majority of supporters that turn up at their tracks will have gotten on with their lives over the winter and been oblivious to the finer details of club sales and a new track.

I’d bet there actually isn’t that many who are like kids at Christmas and want to know what they’re getting yesterday.

A bigger number will be confused at there being no fixtures or season tickets on sale sure, but I’m not convinced it’ll be a dealbreaker!

From a personal point of view, after a long winter I’m at the point now where I’ve missed the racing and I’m looking forward to getting up to Lynn in a few weeks to watch some Speedway.

I understand the frustration but I don’t think people have stopped caring, they are just fed up with the same problems. What’s needed now is clearer direction and better promotion to keep fans turning up at Ipswich and across the sport.

Less than 4 weeks to the official season starts 6 weeks till Easter, normally prime speedway crowds. BUT yet still no fixtures 😲 people are wanting to plan their lives and family time 🤔
