2026 Premiership is Go! - At least 5 teams

Recommended Posts

Underwhelming statement when big changes and ideas where needed rather than go with the same old tired system if one of the 5 teams close mid season the whole league collapses .

Absolutely nothing regarding a short medium or long term plan. Just another sticking plaster on a gaping wound.
the good ship speedway titanic is on its way to the sea bed while captain Godfrey has his fingers in his ears while ordering master bates to rearrange the deck chairs.

Once Louis flogs Ipswich do you think he will use the money to go in at Northampton or use Oxford maybe for a season?

Have seen this suggestion made 2 or 3 times

It just doesn't make any sense!

If he wanted to be involved he wouldn't be selling Ipswich

He’s got what he didn’t want , a 5 team league. So to be involved he’d be doing something he doesn’t want.. unless I’m reading it wrong.. which I don’t want

So you might only have 10 home meeting this season if you get knocked out in the first round of the cup completions or 11 if they get another cup to play for  maybe all Premiership teams should put together a 5 team NL Team to fill in all the blank weeks to keep people interested

Not a mention of the sterling work that speedway futures Ltd habe done behind the scenes, not a mention of who the new Ipswich owners are if indeed there are any, a statement that told us very little but what did we expect really ? You don’t need to wait for an AGM to fix a problem and it’s clear they have no idea how to fix the sport, carry on doing the same and pound to a penny they haven’t addressed any issues of cost either for riders and more importantly the long suffering dwindling fan base

Do you mean reduce the cost riders have to pay to ride or the cost promoters have to pay for riders? Reducing the cost riders have to pay for their 'kit', which must be restrictions on the number of bikes they have (difficult to police) or ensuring engines are basic trim and not heavily tuned. ??

Summary of British Speedway.

One big boat in the middle of a lake.

Some promoters rowing in one direction.

Other promoters rowing in another direction.

Commodore Godfrey with his hand on the tiller, scratching his head trying to work out why the boat's going round in circles.....

You forgot that some of the passengers are attacking the wooden hull with pickaxes

So the new Board has a change of balance with 3 of the 5 Premiership promoters on it., so it'll be interesting to see what potential changes may be considered for the future.

I'm a little disappointed that there was no reference to any changes for 2027.

Purely hypothetical question Dean, take somewhere like Monmore. Even if they allowed Speedway back and I guess you could say the same for somewhere like Brough Park, would you need a pile of cash to get them Speedway ready again?

As Wolverhamptons shale and air fence was bought by Redcar and a lot of Newcastles fixtures and fittings too , both will need a lot of cash to reinstate speedway.

If you look at an aerial shot of MG you wouldn't know there was ever a track there as the grass has grown. I presume you'd start from scratch with a new base, top layer then all of the fence posts etc. Part of the starting area was concreted over to make a presentation area for the dogs. No idea about the electrics

The good thing is that the pits are still there.

Significant investment required but certainly capable of being done

It just needs the cost of installing a new track which is not a little cost
