Tatums meaningless “ Early doors” whatever that means.

Two meaning less Lanningisms that used to drive me mad :-

“( such and such )…..makes the jump”

and the really dreadful “ Here comes Collins ( or whoever) high wide and handsome “

If you turned the sound off a and only listened to Lannings commentary you wouldn’t have a clue what was going on.

The phrase I hate is a big 5-1.

For it to be big some 5-1's must be smaller.

Its not big it significant, strategic or important.

Ahhhhhhhh rant over.

"….fires himself to the front."
"Each rider has now had their five rides, so we know their scores, but I haven't got a clue who's qualified for the Elsie Queue."

Tatum gets worse wk on wk, cant remember which rider it was on Saturday but he'd just completed his 3rd ride and Tatum said erm err he had 3 outside gates still to come🤨 that makes 6 rides in my book not 5🤣

I agree, all 5-1's are the same size !!. Craig Saul used to say that a lot at Rye House.  Another one that annoys me is  " He is so far ahead, he is in a different postcode "   Hear that often on the Berwick streaming service.

Charge of the heavy brigade into the first turn, not for the feint hearted, where angels fear to tread, party piece. All great Lanningisms. I dont think he'll ever be bettered personally.

What does that mean!11

High Wide and Handsome I reckon!

A couple of ones that I always recall and they actually started to grate on me a bit - 'he's going to wind it on round the outside'  - 'Cuts back to the inside' both these phrases usually resulted in no passing!

The art of a good commentator is to know what to say and when to keep quiet based on whether they are on the tv or the radio.

For television, you don't need to explain absolutely everything as people can see it for themselves. For radio, a continual description is needed.

For a phrase, one that Olly Allen has used quite a few times this year when conditions has been wet (and others have used it as well) is "He's been filled in..." We know it's to do with the dirt, but it can have other meanings! 😉
