I have followed the youth scene for a while and thing's are looking pretty good for the future and for me Neil Vatcher is a unsung hero he has really pushed us on as a nation. He does a great job his enthusiasm is infectious and it would be great if a few Brits can crack it and actually go on and have good speedway career's.Lambert leading the way Bewley improving by the minute and the likes of Saunders,Kemp,Flint,Rowe,Atkins, (etc) doing great the future looks exciting just thought Neil deserves lots of credit.

No problem there; personally I've always regarded 16-year-old Kyle's 2018 spot as an extended training session to gain Championship experience and learn the circuits he doesn't visit with the Colts. It should all stand him in good stead for 2019 with Workington, I hope. Young, talented and local -- what's not to like? The Comets management have consistently declared that winning or losing as a club is up to the other six and that Kyle (who only takes up two points in the team building anyway) is there to learn, so fair play to them for that. As captain, Proctor (and what a joy it is to see his current form) has already declared that a big part of his job is to help the less experienced riders. Actually, all that would still apply even if you reversed the Alwalton scoreline -- if a team is built for strength in depth, as with Workington, and doesn't perform you don't start narrowing your eyes and taking sidelong looks at the British two-pointer. What are we, Poole?

the kids still learning. only just turned 16 @ the start of the season we will give him all the time he needs to progress in the sport .we have a good other 6 team members who can carry him and help him on his way . i remember neil collins @ wucky when he came , pretty poor , last places were the norm . then one meeting away @ weymouth . it all cane together . the rest is history . we are not a hire and fire club who drop riders cos they cant compete . it we were , we would have binned the fecker sarje . but the rule say we couldnt . kyle is doing alright and one day it will all come together .

and yet some say we need the stellar names - we don't, we need riders who the crowd identify with and grow to love.

Its a little harsh to say 'all the hype' - I don't recall much of that. There's no doubt he is struggling but its a massive step up from the NL. I can only hope the Comets don't drop him because riding at Championship level will only help him improve and they won't get anyone else to score more on the same average. As to the result, fingers crossed this will pull a few more in at Comets home matches as they simply don't get enough.

Yep, it was a terrific performance by your boys. They blew Panthers away, especially from the gate. You're entitled to be chuffed, and even to gloat a bit. But it's a shame you added that little barb about Scotty. He's been on top form for Panthers, and even tonight he was the best of the (admittedly pi55poor) bunch tonight. If Panthers can't finish top - which, at the mo, looks highly unlikely - I'll be rooting for the Comets based on that performance.

Bit unfair to call them gutless. They don't choose not to win races. They only delivered what many suspected that they would at some point, not helped by a gaters paradise. It's ok saying that we warned them of track conditions and that they should have adapted but they were up against better quality all round and it's no good asking them to do a job that's beyond them.

by the way... thanks for the travelling fans from Coventry, it was great to see you all.

Listening to the team manager speaking on local radio and hearing how this team had silenced the doubters .... Sorry Carl, they are shouting again!! Not one Panther could get out of the start and to be honest not one looked fast enough when behind! In 42 years it's difficult to remember a more convincing home hammering Well done Workington, only team to turn up, bet you wish the 4's were here!!

You are supporting the wrong team - the Poole mantra is win at all costs (and crow about how much better you are than all other teams) Not working out too well with a limited number of replacements willing to step in.

swindon was loyal last season to there riders and won the league . is that all you go to speedway for is to win i find that sad still never mind onward and upwards

Sorry about that - just a bit too out of shape nowadays!

Ignore the attention seeker Coombers. It’s KkS doing his/her usual thing.

And yet you see, that’s everything that’s wrong with Poole. Instead of this ludicrous cut throat attitude of winning at all costs, you should stick by your riders and accept a bad spell or even a bad season and get a bit of loyalty. How many times will you sign the likes of Grajczonek, Sundstrom, Howarth, Newman and Shanes and then sack them at the drop of a hat? It’s about time riders stood up to Matt and said “no thanks, I don’t want to ride for you” ........ oh, hang on, they are!

My thoughts are that being on Wednesdays rather than Thursdays is proving to be a major problem now that the Danish league has got going. Somebody somewhere should have had more balls.

We had it last week when the Bandits out gated us at DP - it happens, get over it and move on. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of speedway bike engines can explain why bike set ups can't be altered during the meeting if it is obvious you are struggling to get out of the gate, or is it more to do with the riders' mind set/attitude on the night. Probably a bit of both me thinks. Anyway if we can bounce back I am sure the Panthers can, and it would be very boring if we could all correctly guess the outcome of meetings beforehand.

I don't know what all the talk of Peterborough riders not getting out of the start is all about? From what I saw it was pretty even it's just that the Panthers riders was being passed as if they were stood still by a far superior Workington team

Hello Montie. I was thinking in the car on the way home of how many times you've bored on about the track at Brough Park. I hope after yesterday evening you will think twice in future. Sometimes circumstances conspire to result in a poor racing surface, and I'll assume that happened yesterday. Just to be clear, I think we would be likely to have lost whatever the track had been like.

The issue with R/R is it only needs someone to crash and withdraw and you’re in a mess. Even if someone is having a poor meeting, like Garrity did, against stronger opposition you can’t expect the other main 4 riders to score as strongly week in week out.

As expected really, hopelessly outclassed at this level but hey, I've always thought he'd grow into the team as the season progresses and he gain's more experience? Not too worried at this time, second half of the season should see him improving a bit so I'm happy enough for now he has the talent he'll grow into this OK!!

Oh no how many forum spelling and puncuation police officers can one place afford. If thats the best you can do you have no chance of being taken seriously. Infact after asking the poster to retract a statement they made your cred was shot right there and then. But im glad you don't take things to seriously as you seem pretty boring anyway, but obviously you need a sense of humour before you can participate in not taking things seriously. Enough from me as i dont really see the point in engaging any further with you as you are really seriously boring the arse right of me.

This is a great thread-thanks must go to the genius who started it-clearly a gent of much distinction!!! These posts brought back memories indeed-Jim Squibb has got to be up there-I can recall seeing him ride in 1966 or so-in his mid forties(which I then thought was old)- Capn' Jim he was called -like a pirate (but I don't wanna be a pirate-Seinfeld allusion sorry). I'd forgotten about Ron Mountford-I recall him wearing contact lenses in the early sixties. Not sure if anybody mentioned "Muscles" Les Owen-he came to a bit of a sad end as some of you may recall- saw somebody mention Brian Brett-don't think I would have put him on the list-what do others think. I reckon he retired too early-may have liked his booze too much!! Other names mentioned-Chris Blewett, Chris Julian-always entertaining-wish I could go back in time and watch some of those harum scarum Provincial League meetings again!!
