I watched this on BSN. A couple of things made me pay to watch it. One was to see the Workington track - which looks excellent. The other was I was interested to watch Celina ride and see how she did. It's so typical of speedway these days for people to demand changes immediately - I guess it's a product of the points limit to concentrate so much on figures - but I think it would be a major mistake to try and replace her and I'm sure Workington won't do that. Not in the short term, at least. I hope not, anyway. Yes, she's saddled with a 4 point average, but they knew that when they signed her and knew that wouldn't be easy to achieve immediately, but you can see just by watching her that there is a good rider there. Sure, she needs to improve her starting and first turns, but apart from that she's a good as many other reserves in the league. If the more experienced riders in the side can help her with that I reckon there's a bit of a star in waiting right there. Comments that she is "way off the pace" are simply not true. In one race she passed one of the Redcar reserves for a point. In another she snuk past the other reserve momentarily. Not exactly ground-breaking stuff, but not "way off the pace" either. She's also a charismatic interviewee (her dropping of the F-bomb made me chuckle) and someone whose rides I looked forward to seeing and also the main reason that Workington are the Championship side that I - as someone without a team - am most interested in at the moment. Obviously she needs to start scoring more at some stage, but I can honestly see that happening if they stick with her and support her. She doesn't come across as someone who will be phased in trying to do that. It's not all about the average. Swindon took Jason Doyle on a 13 point plus average one year and he was always going to lose about 4 points on that and I think they won the league that year.31 points

Managed to speak to Celina in the pits prior to the meeting, she was certainly still battered and bruised from last weeks fall. She said her right hip is fully black with blood spots, and it hurts to move. She is so determined and has definitely made an impression with Comets fans young and old at an early stage. That’s all that matters here, I don’t think we or she will care about outside negativity. She is so mentally strong and will laugh the negativity off. Her dad Jurgen and sister, drove over from Germany with her best engine that was sitting at home. He only arrived in Workington at 10.30am yesterday morning having drove all night, and then proceeded to start working on her equipment ahead of yesterday’s meeting. If she can get out of the start which she’ll be working on, I’m convinced she’ll start picking up good points instead of having to do it from the back. Speedway is to me is not a tribal sport, and I don’t see comments posted here echoed around Social media platforms. However the comments here are still fairly tame compared to other sports. Would take these comments with a pinch of salt. The experience at Northside is miles better than the Derwent Park days in my opinion, I wasn’t sure on the Afternoon starts at first but the numbers of families attending is really showing. All positive stuff for me! With improvements to FIM standards coming all the time and the inclusion of a Newport style ‘New years Classic’ in the pipeline we could be running all year round on this track.8 points

Posted by Speedway Social on X. My son has bought some Poole Pirates merchandise for himself, he's very happy with it. However, he's less happy that he's been taunted, ridiculed and verbally abused by people for wearing it... I'm not looking forward to when he has to leave the house. https://x.com/SocialSpeedway/status/17817598609771400967 points

celina has more b4ll5 than many speedway riders and never gives up . most entertaining rider .6 points

And here we go again. Pathetically ran Speedway club, a complete embarrassment.4 points

Yep. British protocol is concussion means no tracing on these shores for 9 days. in Poland you can race right away as long as you have a pulse4 points

Well the great escape couldn’t be pulled off but that was a really positive night for Plymouth Speedway. Good crowd, track in good shape and there was some very good racing particularly early in the evening and a good team performance from the Gladiators. Everyone contributed to the win. Jacob Hook putting in a lot of laps after heat 15 too to learn more about the track. There’s a real togetherness about this group which is pretty exciting. Get the No. 1 position sorted and this team might just make a few people look silly this season4 points

Usual rubbish comment from u,the lass has guts to try and make it in what has been a male majority sport,if u think u could do better give it a go .4 points

Stinks of we’re going to get stuffed so call it off and we’ll have better riders in team next time we meet3 points

Forecast looks perfectly fine, I'm surprised SCB / Phil Morris allowing this to happen. As Lynn appeared to have good guests lined up, it's confusing, if the weather isn't the reason for the postponement, what is?3 points

I sincerely hope that Celina is given a good run to establish herself in the team.Preferably the whole season. All new riders need to be given a chance. At Redcar and Workington she battled to go from 4th to third showing her potential. A long time ago, I saw a young Danish rider in the Wu21 championship.. Sabrina Bogh… she got 8 points and was passing riders on the bends. She was crowned Danish U21 champion with a field containing a lot of talented riders… cannot remember the year now.. Good luck Celina.. keep the faith and show progression during the year.3 points

Very accurate assessment From a unbiassed poster The reason it's entertaining is that she trys hard And the comets fans are behind her more because of all the others knocking her3 points
-
Coming from a cumbrian, why are you so hostile? I'm all for defending the team and all but you just seem a bit of a bellend at times. Everytime I'm in here or a different thread associated with Comets it's you arguing with someone about rubbish from several months ago.3 points

What a shambles The only shower is the shower of sh!t that are ruining the sport2 points

Exactly this, especially after the result on Thursday at Sheffield. The club is a shambles but unfortunately the governing body that lets them get away with it are also a shambles.2 points

Buster is a cancer to the sport. He's one of the main problems as to why nobody takes the Sport seriously in this country.2 points

There must be something going on, I can't imagine it's Basso & Puk being absent as the two guests looked good. There must be riders from either (both) teams who can't/won't travel from Poland or something. All very odd. Unless they are privy to a forecast that nobody else is but that seems highly unlikely.2 points

That’s convenient. Slightly more plausible than a damaged pit gate.2 points

Terrible last 4 heats, and Brennan missed his last ride to get his helicopter2 points

Whatever a rider's gender, surely you give them more than three competitive fixtures to get used to UK racing? Especially if the team has won them all.2 points

NKI shouldn't be riding tomorrow, I'm sure it was 9 days he isn't allowed to ride in the UK for.Poland just do what they want.2 points

think you'll find the real reason Jake wasn't at his best tonight or last night was he is suffering from tonsillitis and has no energy at all. I caught up with him after the meeting and he sounded and looked pretty rough. Think that explains why his point scoring power was down. He will be back though I'm sure. Well done to Mark Phillips and everyone who has been involved in the project over the winter. You have done a great job with still a bit more to do in places. Massive project, horrendous weather but it's a from me. Gladiators 24 will be a different proposition. The team make up is a typical one from Gazza and I'm sure he will get the best out of them. Seen Dan Thompson twice this year now and wow! Very impressive at Oxford in the Premiership and again superb this evening. Got to say as well how good is his Dad with the kids after the meeting! He was pushing my 10yr old son around the car park in one of Joe's bikes before he loaded up the van. Didn't need to do that but it was brilliant and I reckon Logan won't forget that in a hurry.2 points

Really enjoyable meeting today. Been to everyone down at Northside and have to say, that is the best racing to date. The extra dirt really helped passing massively. Could have went either way. Hope Danny King isn’t hurt badly after that unfortunate incident.2 points

Great to hear that cookie had a good meeting and broke the track record to boot, well done Craig, you deserve all the success that now comes your way...well done, great to see you back to the form we all know you're capable of showing, good luck for the rest of the season.2 points

Really don't see the logic behind that statement. Torun really aren't that good, Przedpelski is a passenger almost every week and a rider who's getting worse with every season also Dudek is far too hit and miss to have any faith in. Grudziadz just put in a good performance and that was with Doyley having an off day which goes to show that they've got other riders who can step up. Torun would get obliterated if Lambo or Emil had an off day.1 point

Any chance someone can post the results of meetings on here please? The riders and everyone concerned with running the NJL deserve credit and results to be published in recognition of their efforts.1 point

Going back to 2006, when the graded reserves were supposed to stay there all season, Steve Boxall & Jon Armstrong got moved into the top 5. I guess it seems British Promoters are mostly concerned with making sure one team doesn't get an advantage.1 point

Just seen the clip of the crash between King & McGurk. 1) how on earth can the referee award that race when Batchelor & Knudsen were virtually level 2) why would you give the benefit of the doubt to the offending team (that Batchelor would have held on to win) 3) if it was re-run, Redcar could've used IRR in the re-run & heat 13. So the innocent party (Redcar) were worse off for the rest of the match The only benefit of the race being awarded is King being paid for second place.1 point
-
I'd have to disagree with that point, clubs don't sign Speedway riders just because they try. If Workington thinks she'll improve & hit her 4.00 average - then that's the reason not to drop her.1 point

In Poland they have what they call sparring meetings or in our terms challenge meetings maybe to iron problems out as UK season is so short a couple of pre season meetings could even run POTE just to get riders dialled in be better than going in cold into league meetings1 point

The NDL product today is much poorer than it has been for as many years as i care to remember and the admission price is the highest....its simply not a sustainable business model for standalone clubs and relies on top ups from clubs running multiple sides which can't last forever. The writings been on the wall since IOW left1 point
