Image if speedway had drawn in decent crowds consistently & was a consistently profitable business, not subject to massive booms & busts. Ipswich would be one of the best tracks in the world. Foxhall built as a speedway stadium in 1950 the track was what is now the stock car circuit. Unfortunately due to the sport losing popularity in the 60s speedway closed & the stocks carried on, eventually seeing the circuit covered in tarmac. If the money was in speedway I’m sure that the current lease holders would happily have the speedway track reinstated on the outside, or the speedway would actually be able to afford to operate the stadium theirselves. Given none of that will happen we have to make due with what we have & feel content that we have one of if not the most forward looking & professional promotions, while also enjoying the best crowds in the uk.4 points

Just caught up on this meeting earlier, decent meeting. Why oh why do we need the superheat? A draw is a draw. Nothing wrong with that. Only time you should need a superheat is if both teams are level on aggregate for the bonus. Looking like a Witches / Lions final this year.4 points

That was some last heat from the Redcar/Berwick match, excellent race.3 points

Scored 8 plus 1 for Poole and now not trying ….never book a Pirate as a guest … Bjarne Pedersen proof in point3 points

Good to see Tungate has recovered from his injuries that ruled him out of oxford’s meeting at Ipswich last night and is riding for rybnik tonight, ban him3 points
-
So VP gets a 7 day ban for genuinely being sick while Nicolai Klindt is allowed to pick and choose his meetings as he sees fit, absolutely absurd!3 points

ill be going this Saturday, providing weather ok. taking 3 others with me.3 points

The criticism of the track may well be valid but some level of criticism must lay with the riders who on today’s machine can rarely adapt to different track conditions and it makes the racing boring because of the set up and the general lack of rider skills with most on gate and go bikes but little track craft. Give the riders four track spares and ask them to race and then you will separate the men from the boys. Until you have an affordable level playing field races will be strung out because riders have simply lost the art/skill of riding to the conditions rather than the set ups.3 points

I agree but the point Ian made was that they don't even show you it during a race if they can avoid it, even a rider sliding off innocuously they immediately cut away. It's frustrating when the commentator is talking about it but you can't see it, I suppose it's just another example of the nanny state we live in these days. Like everyone else I don't want to see any rider injured but crashes and falls are part & parcel of the sport we love, yet they are removed from our view. edit; there's not many more violent sports than boxing, soon they'll be cutting away when someone gets decked.2 points

Can't fault Pludra tonight. Credit where it's due. 👍2 points

Come on now Lewy, One is ill and the other is sitting in a hotel in Poland cause he doesn’t want to risk getting injured for Poland on the Sunday. You just keep playing the rules.2 points

I think maybe your make a good point about the age thing, being a senior statesman so to speak comes with a few responsilbilites, plus the desire to pass knowledge on. My tigers mate who attends every week - (and me) noticed how good Tai was with the younger lads, his team riding efforts were really good!2 points

Barry's involvement means he has peewee races before, at the interval and after the meeting, something which you don't see on the streams but he gets them well involved and makes the do a little victory lap and a wave to the crowd, I know how much this means to the little riders because my boy is one of them. all he talks about is when the next my first skid or meeting he can ride at and that's all down to Barry and his involvement. The crowds seem to be down to the move to Saturday night's and the social media team they have buzzing people up in the run up to every meeting, people are bringing people along now and we now see countless posts of people saying 'its my first time and I will be back for sure'. If this Saturday is anything like the last you actually have to get there early now if you want to get a seat in the grandstand. There was over 100 kids in the kids race too, excellent to see.2 points

To be honest I didn’t see Ellis, King, Brennan,Thompson, Lawson, Kildermand, Klleen or Wright wobbling around. Edward’s & The number 4 from Oxford did struggle a bit but it certainly wasn’t wobbling around. Plenty of criticism always thrown at the Ipswich track however plenty of riders seems happy to ride fro Ipswich & our gates are by far the healthiest in the league. We can’t all have the council build us a shiny new stadium.2 points

Could you kindly put forward a big bag or two of cash to purchase the stadium from the owners then the stock car promotion, and a few more bags of cash to completely alter the stadium with a bigger stock car track and bigger speedway track more suitable? don’t necessarily disagree with the points about the suitability of the track shape but you make it sound like negligence on the Ipswich promotions part that they’re not moving with the times and making the track much bigger with zero grasp of a realistic solution. louis has altered the track banking and shape 4-5 times over the past few years doing his best to try and improve the racing within the confines of the stock car track and while it’s still quite one dimensional when prepared well there’s opportunity to go deeper and find grip to pass last night it was pretty poorly prepared…again stabdinng just on the exit of second bend have watched riders hitting a hole/bump mid turn 1/2 all season, can’t understand how it’s not been dealt with, frustrating for the riders and frustrating to watch week in week out, that hole was what Doyle was out on track complaining about and highlighting to Hawkins in the grade break.2 points

Im sure i will like it speaking to our fans that have been, all give great feedback.2 points

Apparently it's fancy dress nite at Plymouth on Saturday, maybe @lewy is trying to find his clown suit 😁🤡2 points

Just because he failed to win doesn't automatically mean he wasn't a good manager, it's the riders on track that need to perform. Maybe GB were just never THAT good? While GB were always amoungst the favourites, don't think they were ever out & out favourites.2 points
-
Or the riders could admit that the actually problem is the engines used in modern speedway but that will never happen2 points

Dad's army was in the first year back after covid wasn't it when there weren't really any "stars" in the league, that makeup of team may have worked then (as it did), can't see it doing so again while the superstars are all at 4 clubs.2 points

If you're going to have a rule it should be enforced... it's a tiny thing but the flashing light wasn't flashing on the tractor last night at Ippo, it's in the rulebook, so should be enforced... if not, get it out of the rulebook! Light is not flashing on the Edinburgh tractor tonight 🚜🚨1 point

Last chance saloon for Cheetahs, even a win may not be enough now but 6 of the declared team is a bonus, hopefully JJ is fit enough to do himself justice1 point

Sorry misread the averages 0.09 difference! So unlike you to comment on a Plymouth thread!! Oops of course it's against Poole!1 point

I always enjoyed the superheat, think we had a couple towards the end of Peterborough running. Bigger problems with the sport in this country than an extra race at the end of the night.1 point

I think you need to give your head a wobble if we get rid of klindt where do we get a replacement?any suggestions welcome plus getting a rider on 75% of Klindt's average still allows us to bring in a reasonable replacement, the Plymouth public in no way feel short changed in fact generally makes us stronger at home as klindt never really come to terms with the Plymouth track. I think we have 2 away matches left watch this space!1 point

Was wondering if Shane Parker would make a visit and really great to see another Glasgow legend Shane Bowes, looking forward to seeing them both.1 point

I watched the stream on BSN and admit to enjoying it - the track caused issues no doubt but there was also one or two really good races with some great overtaking moves. I shall, weather permitting, be at Foxhall next week for the visit of erm who is it again😉 Ellis had a good meeting great overtake in heat 15 too! Well done to the Cheetahs for giving it a go - got away from then after heat 8.1 point

I will be happy if we get a respectable tally of points after our recent away performances. An away win would be good , but I live in hope!1 point

I see the usual suspects are trolling on here about the track. Given the expectation of a one sided affair it turned out to be a decent meeting, was a decent crowd in too, I wonder if bsn covered the second half, I didn't stay for that. Plenty of grip out there and Oxford (Janowski apart) gave a decent effort. Lawson always puts up a good fight and his race with Ellis was good to watch (note there was no pass but there doesn't have to be for a good race). I was impressed with Killeens win. McDiarmid improved each race and his battle with Killeen was a little hairy but he didn't back off - I was hoping for him to get the point. Kildemand was unlucky to fall with Brennan, the gap was there. Ellis looked much better for Ipswich and Thompson is back on form at the right time.1 point

Not for me this take.. as the sport has evolved the tracks have not. If you watch racing at Belle Vue, Glasgow or Workington it is like watching a different sport to this absolute tripe on display. Riders are flat out pushing the bikes to their limit and have room for slight error with more room. Tracks like Ipswich, Poole and Edinburgh the riders are hunched over the the bikes trickling round like amateurs just happy to get 4 laps in. The only slight exception to this for me is Plymouth but that is more of a novelty because of how small it is. But these narrow tight tracks are holding the sport back.1 point

I used to think Poole was the worst track in the country but this Ipswich track comfortably takes that accolade. Can anybody send me a link to a good race around here? Almost every rider aside from Doyle and Emil look like complete novices wobbling round and in fairness Emil looks like he is massively struggling tonight.1 point

very true, but dan also probably didnt know what the outcome means, i mean he did like 3 laps of wheelies after heat 15 then did doughnuts before being dragged back to the pits, hahaha1 point

Obviously I don't see Bewley as often as BV fans do, but I have always felt this is the area where he is lacking. Fantastic individual rider, but rarely seems to give any assistance to his riding partner. Before I am accused of bias, I will say that I have the same criticism of Jack Holder, although it is an area where he seems to be improving. By comparison, the way we saw Tai working with the lower order riders when he returned to Sheffield in 2023 was a different level. Constantly looking for them, letting them past and then giving protection. Chris Holder also very good at this, so maybe it is something that comes with age.1 point

I’m beyond devastated to learn that Rohan won’t be at foxhall tonight. I do hope he makes a full recovery from his shoulder injury in time for his polish fixture1 point

It’s a silly concept … Ipswich deserved a draw last night and so did Belle Vue for battling back1 point
