Poole fans will never admit when they are wrong, they will just double down at every opportunity.5 points

Some absolutely crazy comments on here. Fact is Danny is not overly bothered about having the 2nd leg. Everything was in place to run yesterday, BSN had set off and were well on their way when things all went on hold. Forecasts weren't good so decision was made. This decision had to be made before midday otherwise costs soar. Having witnessed the rain we did have, maybe the meeting could have been finished before the heavens opened.5 points

The unnecessary price increase highlight's how detached from a professional business acumen these people are. Speedway is done and dusted in this country. R.I.P. BRITISH SPEEDWAY.5 points

And just like that, a Poole fan has proven your point šš Clear as day difference from a meeting simply called off on forecast and one largely called off because of rain that has already arrived.4 points

Based on one off the cuff comment by Doyle on Monday evening. Pretty sure thats not exactly what he meant.2 points

Just hope Brady and Dan get through it unscathed. As professionals theyāll definitely give their all on the night but theyāve been there done it with this competition. Let another dog have its day . Just get to Saturdayās massive meeting safe.2 points

Not saying the Poole decision was right or wrong or pre determined But season after season with Poole this topic comes up Are all the fans of the other clubs wrong everytime No smoke without fire2 points

Definitely not, there is no chance of this being called off. With the last GP just a couple of days later, I seriously doubt Kurtz and Bewley will be taking too many risks...š2 points

I agree. It's probably a combination, for me at least, of football always being quite a 'premier' event to attend (at least top level football) and speedway slowly creeping up from ~£13 to £27. I think my biggest obstacle is the uncertainty in what you're going to get. If I go to a top-level football game, although I might watch a boring game, it's in a nice stadium, the atmosphere is usually good, and the top players are, in the main, guaranteed to be playing. Similar to a big music gig. If I go to a British speedway meeting I'd get no nice stadium, close to zero atmosphere mostly, and maybe 4/5 top riders across both sides. When you add in that track conditions being bad can wipe out nearly any racing, the venue entertainment is often abysmal, etc. then it just makes you question if £27 is really worth it? My view is probably skewed, though, because I don't have a local track. I think I'd probably (un)happily spend £20 a week if I did, because I'd have a team to support and some skin in the game. As it is, I just pick and choose as a neutral and that's when you realise that it's mostly poor value.2 points

Yesterday it wasn't raining and according to the forecast the probability of rain in the evening was 30% to 50%... and it turned out to be 0% until around 9 o'clock... Today it is raining and according to the forecast the probability of rain in the evening is 70% to 90%... Spot the difference....2 points

Maybe there should be cut-off dates for the completion of all KO Cup/BSN etc rounds/Semi Finals/Finals. Then it might solve the problem?2 points

1981 is a lifetime ago when we had limited entertainment options. That is not the case anymore. Speedway fans don't travel. I think I am one of the few exceptions, but I don't fit the average speedway fan demographic. When I have attended Birmingham, Oxford or Leicester during the last two seasons I have seen very few Wolves or Coventry fans. Looking around maybe Leicester does the best out of the three venues I mentioned with maybe 20ish a meeting. If speedway fans travelled then their would be greater support at away tracks rather than a hardcore 5-30 away fans at league meetings.2 points

Which demonstrates that price is a red herring when people talk about what to do to attract more people to watch the sport live.2 points

Was interesting to hear Bewley on TNT publicly say how much he enjoys riding Foxhall despite not doing particularly well here. Heās said the same over the tannoy at Foxhall in the past, but I just put that down to the fact he was being interviewed in front of a big Ipswich crowd and saying all the right things. Heāll soon be hitting the big scores here when he rides it most weeks next year. š2 points

Obviously the standard in Germany and longtrack u23 is very poor, maybe you should have kept Vuolas.2 points

Maybe Bears 'fans' should read Gavin Parr's comments on FB agreeing with the decision to call it off early. It saved the cost of an overnight hotel for the team south of Oxford which he was able to cancel as riders hadn't started to travel!!2 points

Doesnāt weaken them at all, Klindt is just as good as Thompson, Wood is better than Perry at Armadale, only one you could claim is Lambert for Nagel but then again heās never been to Armadale and Lambert scored a barrel load on his last appearance.1 point

Another issue is, it is now the business end of the season in Poland and the GPs so no rider is going to possibly jeopardise either becoming potential world champion or risk not winning the league or retaining a place in the upper league in Poland. They pay the riders top dollar and can make demands on them to protect the Polish product and t v rights with t v companies seemingly contributing handsomely to the coffers of Polish speedway across the board. Not sure what the answer is but UK speedway is not in a position to exploit an event to the detriment of the punters attending who are at odds with what is on offer and now pick and choose the meetings they attend because the product has become tired and in some cases boring. Those who want to exploit the punter are not looking at the bigger picture and are possibly driving the sport into oblivion.1 point
-
Pity you hadn't bothered to check Lambert's performance at the Dale a month ago (14 + 1 from 6) before making your facile comment.1 point
-
Thatās to watch a professional product in a competition that actually brings kudos & means something to win it. I doubt they would pay that much if half the team doubled up in the championship & used guests to cover injuries. A far cry from British Speedway. If British speedway was attracting full houses & had people waiting on Listās & ballots to get tickets they could probably warrant higher prices. At the moment for many people 24 quid isnāt attractive let alone 27 for what is on offer.1 point

If you look at my earlier post referring to the met office forecast, it was mentioning heavy rain from 5 and between 80-95% chance of rain after 1700 hrs.1 point
-
I understand that but the circumstances around both call offs are different which youāre failing to understand. Poole because of a forecast and Oxford because of a saturated track.1 point

No it wasn't. I spent a lot of time looking at forecasts and rainfall radar yesterday (as I went to Wight Warriors). The forecasts all predicted light showers starting somewhere between 7 and 9 with possibly heavier rain arriving between 9 and 11. None of that falls into the category of 'very bad'. And throughout the day the rainfall radar suggested those forecasts were accurate. It didn't start raining in Poole until around 9pm and unless you have the worst prepared track in speedway the meeting should easily have been completed before it became unrideable. [And anyway where rain is threatened most meetings are completed by 9pm anyway]1 point

And perhaps that sums up one of British Speedway's biggest challenges - persuading our current fan base to part with entry fees that other sports would see as a bargain. Just as an example, and not in particular to compare to football, Manchester City's ticket prices for this year ( which also vary by category of team / competition) below Adult Category A: £40-£60 Category B: £35 - £55 Category -C £30 - £50 And Manchester United Ticket categories are listed below: - Cat D £32 - £52 (cup fixtures only) - Cat -C £37 - £60 (2 x PL fixtures) - Cat B: £57 - £86 (11 x PL fixtures) - Cat A: £59 - £97 (6 x PL fixtures) Less than 1% of tickets will be priced at highest Cat A price point of £97.1 point

They arenāt useless but Zischke and Mulford not really up to it at this level For me Blodorn is your biggest disappointment1 point

Uses the same word as Woffy, (fun). Woffinden was very complimentary about Foxhall last year and said he had a blast and was great fun to ride. Bewley hasnāt got to grips with it yet. He seems to have one or two rides a meeting where you think āheās cracked it nowā, but then follows it up looking completely lost at the back. There was heat last year where he made a stinker of a gate, but stretched the throttle cable and hunted down and passed both Emil and Ellis Loram style! Unbelievable racing. But then he went completely downhill after that and ended the meeting poorly. Leicester is a similar sized track albeit narrower, but he seems to get around there far better than Ipswich for some reason. Probably both! š©1 point

I can see the lead being overturned within six heats, home 4-2 in heat 1 and a 5-1 in heat two and its going to be a long night for us.1 point

What i mean is calling a meeting off just because it " might " rain later on in the late evening. Quite obvious Poole wanted the second leg at home to see what they needed to score, Redcar should apply the same as i sure they would prefer the second leg. Very silly comment to say as far as your aware! Loads of meetings are called off per season but just seemed too coincidental that Poole was a preempted .1 point

That makes zero sense. There would be no point doing that. And when they report it off due to the forecast to you really think no one checks it at the time? If Poole really wanted it off they could have just left the hose on like BV did that time when Zagar missed a flight. Next time take the second leg.1 point

I haven't been since Swindon/Somerset shut. I have mixed feelings about the Ticket pricing, business wise dynamic pricing is becoming a 'norm' so it doesn't really surprise me that they try and cash in on Play Offs. Other comments really highlight why fans have many reasons for giving it a miss. That tends to lead to lots of businesses increasing prices to attempt to recover lost some of the revenue from smaller crowds. Long term i think it is damaging. Especially as Promotions never seem to do anything to make it more of an event or spectacle. At some point in the next years, Speedway will hit a ceiling point where it prices itself out of fans.1 point
-
Some very easy and workable solutions based on lots of other sports. But they are as ever miles behind the curve. Football decided to do something with price capping for away fans Cricket counties let away members get in for free, to some games. Too much self interest in promotions, but what they should be looking to do is centralising & discounting tickets. It took them years to realise that streaming was a good idea. Play offs are only really appealing when the result has a degree of uncertainty on it. As you say can't really blame fans if they don't go, changeable weather, a team you see multiple times & the result is going to predictable. Whole competition needs radical change.1 point
-
How do they get away with increasing prices for a semi final anyway. No the wonder people are slowly drifting away from Speedway, fleecing the punters is certainly not encouraging the public to attend. These days, when money is tight, to say the least, it just makes the Promoters look like money grabbing sharks. They should be rewarding their loyal Supporters with discounts, not making them pay through the nose. I don't agree with the 'play offs' anyway, but this takes the biscuit.1 point

I would estimate about 2000 Max... The mainstand was about half full (900 or so), with possibly over 1000 on the back straight (there was still loads of room there)... There was the usual lack of local promoting of the play offs, however, I believe Granada Reports mentioned it at around half six, (just over an hour before start!)... Amazed people didn't put their teas down and get themselves down there!!! I have only been once this season so I got there around 6.45 to try and get a space on Kirky Lane, (as I remember these spaces usually get filled quickly), and half the road was available, which tended to suggest there and then that the crowd wasn't going to be "bumper".. I have said many times, Speedway needs to find a way to get Away Fans in attendance in decent numbers... There may have been Witches fans there last night but they were few and far between... Ironically, given the home crowd levels, the Aces do take a decent following away and I remember around 150 or more at Ipswich a couple of seasons ago for the first leg of the POSF.. And obviously 400 or so at Sheffield and around 300 at Leicester when they won their recent titles.. 150 Witches fans, either sat together or stood together, would have given the meeting the feeling of being an "event", (that a POSF should be seen as), rather than the mundane, run of the mill, evening it ended up being.. No idea why clubs don't subsidise Away Fans admission (huge reductions), given so very few go now.. It would raise the atmosphere levels massively...1 point

Just registered my support for Swindon Speedway! Good luck! Moreover, I read some of the comments that object and there are some right tools in this world arenāt there š someone wrote, the practise sessions will be loud and noise pollution, hmmm when did England have practise sessions š someone else wrote the travellers site will be impacted⦠are we actually putting travellers before locals who want to see speedway⦠they are travellers⦠they can 1. Travel somewhere else. 2. Choose to live in a house and stop avoiding council tax. These must be the same numptys that say if you are against immigration you are racist š1 point
