And throw away their local meetings with Edinburgh, worky Berwick and even Redcar, not a chance, the current situation that the premier league finds itself in isn’t Glasgow's problem, wasn’t caused by Glasgow and won’t be fixed by Glasgow, if anything Glasgow should be asking the top teams to join them in the Championship5 points

I went to Cardiff for the 2nd time, I believe it was 2yrs ago, when the track was an absolute disgrace, I can’t even recall who won it, I took a mate was a long time lapsed Speedway fan, it was embarrassing, crowd levels poor and I felt the day around the City centre was muted/lowkey. So when they have the infrastructure the basics (track) lets it down. The whole sport needs to grow from the basics, professional, credible, modern stadia, unaffected by weather as much as possible. The trouble is it needs money + more, and I don’t see where that comes from, the sport has had this before and it’s gone backwards. I don’t want to see some fat bloke over 40 with an ill fitting top, as the start matshall, or a bloody traffic cone stopping the tapes from sagging, or track staff smoking.. blah blah.. image, respectability, perception counts for a lot. I’ve said this before on various platforms - to a letter in the Speedway Star many years ago. AFTV was started by one guy essentially, with nothing to sell other than fan views, this channel has daily podcasts, interviews etc. if the powers that be can’t sell a product, their club, riders etc, to the world on various social media platforms in this day and age, the *cough “SPORT” has no chance, all it/we do is reminisce, was it much better years ago.. to some degree yes, but probably not as much as we think it was. It needs to be an out an competitive sport, or be a contrived entertainment (which is what has been for many a year) Anyway…5 points

I was talking to an old fan a couple of weeks back who is in his late 70s now and his local track wolves has now closed and he was saying how speedway wasn’t just a sport to him and his wife, it was their life, they met a speedway in the 60s got married and had travelled all of the world to watch speedway, they had foreign riders stay with them at their home and they feel like entain and the council and to a point British speedway have ripped the heart out of their lives, they can’t drive anymore and the nearest track is over 50 miles away and all I could think was this is me but an older version, I live for speedway it’s all I’ve ever known and done and when it comes to “cool” there is nothing I’ve ever come across that comes remotely close to it, I am that man who loves the smell of speedway and love going in riders workshops and tinkering with bikes and engines and imo there is nothing on earth that sounds as good as a speedway bike being warmed up and I feel like why the hell doesn’t anybody else share my passion for the sport4 points

Luke is certainly not an Ashton, he is on the way up in the sport and is talented and not handed everything on plate.Whoever gets him will get a good signing.IMO3 points

I think everyone needs to wait and see what unfolds. Unless you are on the top table it is just here say and talk of the likes of Ipswich being put up for sale is rumour mongering with no real concrete evidence. The only thing that is nailed on is that speedways top tier in the UK is facing a crisis that it has not been seen in many a year. However as a sport it will survive given who is left even without the top tier and just maybe speedway UK needs to reinvent itself and come back with a completely different business model that provides some form of entertainment to a wider audience who are not the fickle diehards like those who currently turn up week in week out for league meetings and want nothing else. How are second strings suppose to make it if they do not get track time because no one on the terraces is interested. To see how far behind the media coverage is in the UK You only have to look at the current news on the Ekstraliga.pl website and the FIM website to get a feel for what is happening in Europe and realise that the sport in this country is so far up its own backside the rest of the world does not exist and it is being left behind. Logistically it must be a nightmare for riders to have equipment in various locations, employ mechanics etc and then ask yourself why would any contemplate the commute to the UK when travel around the rest of Europe is far easier. Speedway in the UK needs to adopt a domestic policy for the local fans and participate at international level at the various competitions on offer and try and attract international meetings with test matches against those competitors willing to travel over here. Stop pretending speedway has something to offer Joe Public, it does not and unless you get back to grass roots and pursue the hard sell involving various disciplines not just 15 heats of borefest and riders dictating when and if they will get out on track, the same old same old does not work. You might just as well have team racing in any other two wheeled sport. Speedway needs to be an event each week, not just a match between fourteen riders.3 points

Running with 5 teams will drive me and many other fans away..it has to be at least 6 ideally 7 or 8.3 points

I just don’t get why for next season at least they just don’t try to MAKE IT WORK for 1 big league and see where they are in 2027, I believe there is some news next week but whether this is elusive 6th team I don’t know, but this is a real mess and is doing speedway no favours whatsoever3 points

There must be hundreds, maybe even thousands, like you, Chris... Especially in London given the amount of tracks there used to be.. Maybe the BSP should set up a national website for car sharing should anyone be gong to meetings? Coventry, Swindon, Peterborough, Wolves, Somerset, Lakeside, Rye House, Newcastle, Cradley, Eastbourne, Birmingham, and all the closed London tracks, must still have fans interested in the sport, but only have public transport to visit tracks further afield, or do have cars, but don't fancy the costs of the journey... It may encourage those with cars to visit the tracks still running more frequenly if they could split the fuel costs...3 points

Mediocre riders making full time living out the sport.Something has to give.Doubling up for a lot of riders should be Speedway and a job outside the sport.3 points

Because riders don't want this, they want the cash they get from doubling up so they can make it pay. Riders are holding the sport to ransom and that is detrimental to the future of the sport in this country.3 points

IMO the Championship clubs have already agreed they are not prepared to sacrifice their existing structure, including their race nights. None appear to be willing to join the Premiership and who can blame them, given the shoddy treatment when the likes of Birmingham received little help in trying to assemble a competitive side. Also the tv money received from Sky/Disney etc. never benefited CL clubs, so the potential demise of TV income doesnot affect CL clubs. So perhaps the choice for Premiership clubs is either apply for membership of the CL on existing CL terms, or continue to run in whatever form the 2026 Premiership becomes.3 points

Does anyone know the definition of an 'asset' in speedway terms. As an Ipswich supporter, my god have we been lucky with the last few years. However, as a speedway fan first and foremost I would happily watch an amateur or semi pro sport if it meant we got the famous names back such as Wolves, Cradley, Coventry,Swindon, Peterborough and anyone else I apologise for not mentioning. If the sport went back to this footing and became affordable then who knows.2 points

Strongly rumoured Kemp won’t be at Berwick with riding in Latvia think he’s looking at a midweek track which would suggest Oxford as he won’t be at Poole that’s for sure.2 points

If a former club comes back it has to be at there home town, nomad teams are no good for credibility especially if they are miles away from the town itself but I believe the bspl is so desperate for a 6th team I wouldn’t put it past them to run a zielona gora team out of the Isle of Wight2 points

Glasgow could sign both, along with Flint and Howarth if they build along the same lines as last year. For all the talk of the weak reserves, Glasgow were only 1 point or 1 ride away from being Playoff Champions, so might build the same way this year2 points

This company aint using Arry very well. He should have been on Talk Sport this morning talking about the AGM what could be decided to get publicity. Or if not in the tabloid press talking about the AGM. Whats the point of having him in the Sun talking about how he goes to Poole then nothing for weeks! They must get him in the sporting media or on his social media talking about the decisions made for next season sometime this week.2 points

Well lets just say that the POL sites such as Speedway PL & Sportsfakty seem willing to mention it in various posts when referring to British Clubs/Riders and interviews but in UK on our main British Speedway site doesn't even think its worth a mention. Considering the decisions these guys make affect what the rules will be the following season would it really be an issue to keep us the fans at least informed of the meeting taking place.. Especially when the site has days of no news. Even a short statement saying the meeting is taking place on XYZ and that they would keep fans updated on what comes out of the meeting on xyz date.2 points

I don't come on here very often now but felt I needed to add my thoughts to an interesting thread. I first "found" speedway in 1972 at my local track at Oxford which was just around the corner from where I lived. I was instantly hooked and followed the fortunes of my team for 32 years before I relocated. Took in many neutral matches around the country and relished trips to White City especially. Travelled abroad for World Finals...it was my life and created so many memories that I still cherish. However I could see how the sport was being managed in the latter years of my interest and moving to an area that had no speedway diminished my interest and I had no desire to travel a distance to take in a meeting due to many reasons that I have often cited in the past on here.2 points

Any shout of leaving Kye Thomson out is crackers given how he finished the season. That’s coming from his harshest critic in the early part of the year.2 points

Nobody agrees because you're wrong. Glasgow lose enough money in the Championship, and that is on their fans preferred race night, with lots of local derbies and rivalries. None of the 5 Premier teams hold any of the appeal of a visit from Edinburgh, Berwick or Poole. Or Redcar or Workington. 1 season propping up the Premiership and the financial losses associated with that could be the end of the current promotion and no one in Glasgow wants that. I genuinely can't see many Glasgow fans wanting to move up a division. One other thing, where would Glasgow, or any other 6th team, get a competitive team from? An Oxford/Birmingham select from last year would still finish miles behind the other 5 teams, and would provide little excitement. That's partly why the Premiership is struggling, because whenever anyone steps up the others refuse to share their riders and the new team end up as cannon fodder.1 point

But to be fair to them... Very consistent.... Years of decline hasn't waivered them one bit.... They have kept doing the same thing in the face of all the clear evidence, and feedback from thousands of disillusioned fans, for the need to do something radically different. . A special and rare talent....1 point

No one club is bigger than the sport, if they're prepared to go with 5 they may as well go with 4 as either are just as farcical and Louis will soon find out that his club is worth the total amount of 5h1t all... like others that have tried to sell.1 point

If the sport continues its dumbing down and our top riders are either not wanted or are to be shared amongst those with no desire for rider development then The Aces should embrace this and purely look after themselves. Forget the GP & British Final, let another track look after that as they had a detrimental affect of our domestic attendance. Build a team to Birmingham’s total from last year and save on rider costs both from an initial point of view and a match by match basis - less points, less pay. We are pretty much running on diehards with regards attendance and they like me will turn out for their fortnightly speedway fix. The days of us looking at the bigger picture need to end as it’s not as though we’ve change anything nor gathered more friends within the sport. Ben Cook 6.39 Jake Mulford 3.00 Charles Wright 6.11 Tate Zischke 3.00 Zach Cook 6.20 Billy Budd 3.00 Jack Smelt 3.00 30.70 just short of the Brummies total last year.1 point

I am aware of someone who came on board in the last 12 months as a sponsor & he has been blown away by Louis attitude & professionalism.1 point
-
It’s such a shame others don’t have that same attitude and drive. There’s a lot out there that will do the absolute bare minimum to get by each year. People don’t realise that Louis also paid out of his own pocket, for someone to go canvassing across local areas to every local business big and small, to garner any interest in sponsoring the club. That eventually bore fruit. People inaccurately claim Ipswich are “lucky” because they have a “rich” sponsor who does all the leg work but that simply isn’t true. It’s the hard work of Chris Louis bringing in several partner sponsors, along with the title sponsor, that enables the club to be run efficiently. The consistently healthy crowds (by today’s standards) also obviously help. They’re all contributing factors combined.1 point

Can you for a second get your head out of the sand please, if a rider turns up at any NDL team with one bike straight away he’s questioned where is your other bike, also where is your helper, and that is where it starts, the fantasy days of (for the love of it) faded away years ago and now it’s about being professional first and foremost and then o we’re doing this promoting youth and then if you don’t comply then we have to let you go, appreciate don’t make me laugh, and by the way it’s slightly more expensive than in 1970/80s1 point
