Speedway deserves better than this, it’s a shambles and nobody can defend anyone involved10 points

I have said it for years the national league should go their own way with the blessing of the bspl, ultimately the higher leagues don’t and never have cared for the NL unless there is some sort of financial gain for them, they get jealous of any NL club that has any financial success and set out to penalise that club, the fake outrage when a Nora league was mooted was speedway in a nutshell, our way or no way, the likes of Barry bishop understand the bspl mentality, don’t expect any help because they don’t care6 points

Those that are managing/controlling this Ipswich campaign are running the risk of losing the good will of not just the Ipswich fan base but that of the entire Premiership where those declared clubs are seemingly being held to ransom over the indecisiveness or one or more parties when it comes to the fixture list etc. The dwindling fan base who like to plan ahead to support their team at away matches are ignored to the point where that particular contribution that fans make in terms of travelling support falls on deaf ears of those in charge. Promoters are happy to take the punters money but pay scant regard to realising the importance of keeping supporters on side and the mushroom syndrome is the mantra that suits the promoters business model. Many more will find other things to do on race nights and pick and choose those meetings they want to attend yet those running the sport seemingly have their respective heads buried in the sand so much so that you feel they could not find themselves a way out of a paper bag let alone solve the issues of. the self inflected mire the sport finds itself in and actually go out of there way to ignore the contribution the die hard supporters offer this great sporting spectacular. Speedway could be so good if promoted as something special and run by those who had a vision to expose it to broader audience, but the insular way in which it is runs means this will not happen in the short to medium term. Get rid of the old guard and things might change, but leave it as is and it will pass into history.6 points

I'm sure I am not the only one who is thinking this but it looks like we have acquired a spammer on the forum. It is becoming very obvious that this individual comments practically every day on almost every subject in order to make sure they are seen. I'm not naming the poster but I'm sure you will all know who it it. There's nothing wrong in putting forward an opinion but the forum should not be a place for spamming. The moderators know who it is and should be taking action. Hey I'm just wondering what the odds will be of them being the first to comment on this thread.5 points

Because they’re not yet owners of a Speedway club are they? They’ll announce themselves, when they are! What on earth are people struggling with here?5 points
-
You can't really have a behind closed doors signing-on night - they need members of the public to volunteer so, in theory, anyone could have gone if they wanted to. i'm completely fed up. There's more to life than wondering even if there will still be speedway, let alone who will be riding. No attempt at a publicity splash or big reveals will make the slightest bit of difference now.5 points

Too many promotions want too many different things from the sport.. For a good number, what we have today is perfection... Affordable subsidising of their hobby either through another business they run, or money they take in renting out their track... Many get to use and see pkenty of PL Heat Leaders, but don't need to pay them the same as their PL teams do... And, those in the 2nd tier in can run at weekends if they want to, when, generally in the entertainment game, it delivers the best crowds, and just swap and change riders with each other, as and when some riders have inevitable clashes with Polish and FIM events.... Promoters can also decide to ride in whatever league can make them the most profit, given the lack of any decent prize money or publicity for winning either, so, once again, are quire content to keep things as they are... In summary... For many, the current structure ticks lots of their required boxes, therefore change isn't going to happen unless someone comes out with a huge sponsorship package, which would mean UK Speedway could then become relevant and authentic as a Team Sport... However, given the often clearly demonstrated skill sets of so many within the "UK Speedway Bubble Echo Chamber", nothing will change, because it cannot...4 points

Will they announce the team on opening night (if there is one) it'll at least maybe get a crowd in (for one meeting anyway). There's absolutely no reason not to announce yourself as prospective buyers, other sports clubs that have changed ownership don't hide behind a curtain of secrecy so why would Ipswich Speedway's?3 points
-
Because as the latest statement says, it still hasn’t been completed yet due to stadium related issues. They’re clearly a professionally run outfit unlike the cowboys who run other clubs in this Country and won’t be making a full, detailed announcement until all legalities have been completed. And rightly so. On the team, again the statement says only five of the team have actually signed, two close. Perhaps they want to announce the full team, together with their announcement of the purchase of the club, in one go? That again makes total sense.3 points
-
Pretty much what I expected from the behind scenes wording I was given. It didn’t sound as though it would be a comprehensive update of anything completed, and so it’s proved. But, at least he’s provided a further update and put us all in the picture on the reasoning for the delay so that’s appreciated. We now know the reason for the delay was stadium related, and that issue has now been resolved. Good to know there were no issues between Louis, and the prospective new owners and it’s all still going ahead as planned. Team almost in place also. Alas the wait now goes on for official confirmation.3 points

do they really add anything positive to the forum though? More harm than good and i would say good posters are probably deciding not to come on here because of the constant drivel.3 points

What makes it worse is that you tend to look forward to spring through winter, and associate it with the start of the speedway season...3 points

I do agree with what you're saying and I think the poster should be able to post what he wants in reason on this forum. But and its a big but, the forum has been totally saturated by the posts on what seems every single thread going. Other posters don't want that and it puts them off both posting and visiting the site. The poster needs to calm down and not railroad every thread going.3 points

I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. A bad season can be turned around if the enthusiasm is still there.3 points

It is not just about Ipswich albeit they are a major factor in the current situation, it is about speedway as a whole and those incompetent individuals who as custodians of the sport have collectively contributed to the decline in the sport as a creditable activity. Failure to promote on a national basis, the me, me, me attitude of promoters and the inability to control the riders who are the tail wagging the dog has left what was once the second biggest spectator sport in this country an example of abject failure. No one has any vision and the idea of working collectively for the benefit of all is beyond the comprehension of the promoters. Yes you can be grateful that speedway at Ipswich will feature in 2026 but it should never have got to this situation and whilst it is not in the public domain the reasons for JL throwing in the towel, it clearly has something to do with all of those on the top table and their attitude. We will see, but for now some will feel it is better than nothing but until the attitude changes this may just be a temporary solution.3 points

Just makes even more depressing reading, guests and constant changing of our ‘regular’ race night is just annoying, anyone else remember the posters at the old Cleveland Park…RACING EVERY THURSDAY , MARCH TILL OCTOBER ‘ ?2 points

Perhaps spedeworth were hesitant to renew the lease without surety of who the incoming tenants would be, would make sense that don’t you think 🤷♂️2 points
-
Why does Worrall keep getting mentioned, hes packed in and wasnt very good last season,2 points
-
The stadium issue which is seemingly lease related will have been known for some considerable time and the renewal date would have been set out in the terms of the previous lease so no excuses. It was possibly a matter of public record if the lease/sub lease was registered but I am not prepared to pay a fee to corroborate the position. Even if the lease or sub lease was not registered, CL would have known the position and could easily have made a short statement regarding the lease coming to the end of its term and hence a delay could be expected. Yes the lease holder (Spedeworth) need to carry out due diligence on the new will not want to be in a position that is materially different to that which they were in with the JL (e g bank guarantees underpinning rent payments etc..). I do not think it is a case of the new owners being more professional, anyone involved in acquiring a business that has a leased asset would face the same issues and potential delays. But you have to go back to the fact that the date would have been known so to point the finger at Spedeworth as being the reason for the delay is a tad unfair. When JL decided to sell he would have been fully aware of the lease position. The team building and release of names does make sense but in the overall scheme of things, all parties have a made a dogs dinner of proceedings and the statement does little to deter the detractors of the sport who think it is run by amateurs who have little business acumen and that is why it cannot attract any decent sponsorship that would make a real difference and give it a modicum of credibility. All who have been involved have done the sport no favours.2 points

Statement with no information other than delayed due to renewal of the stadium. Don’t believe it unfortunately, the renewal would have been known about for months leading up towards this moment. If Louis was to keep the team and not sell it are we saying he still wouldn’t have named a team due to not signing a renewal contract of the stadium lease? It’s not a top secret of being owners of a speedway club so why not just announce yourself now? Whether you have a team or not.2 points

I'm still wondering why the new buyers are still so shy about revealing themselves? If 5 riders are "signed" why not name them?2 points

Simon Lambert it is. Ultimately on that average around scunny you couldn’t get much better. The side is clearly made to win at home and you can’t really argue with that2 points

Fixtures now showing on speedway web site, how are these going to work with double up riders who have no idea when the so called premiership is going to run meetings, I assume the chapionship will now have first call on them. Also the riders who have no club at all in this country where are they going to end up? This is beyond a shambles and the promoters should hang their heads in shame.2 points

Us fans are just customers to them at the end of the day . Same as football really. Although the powers that be in football know they can treat them that way as they know they will keep turning up week in week out. The Glazers at United being a prime example. The powers that be in speedway don’t have that luxury . They’re signing the death warrant to the sport. They’re doing nothing to try and promote a bright future and the dwindling crowd numbers will continue to prove this until the sport disappears for good.2 points

It did say an update would be given this week. I hope Mayfield do a better job at promoting the SGP series as they seem almost ashamed/embarrassed to be associated with the Witches!2 points

Either the track staff are all sworn to silence OR they are all as peed off with the deafening silence as we fans are and no one turned up. I'm already making other plans for where to spend my money on Thursday nights other than Foxhall Stadium, somewhere they will appreciate my custom and my money. It seems to me us loyal Ipswich fans don't matter any more. Even a short statement with the current position would be better than nothing2 points

Leave him alone. You do not have to read or comment on anything he posts. As has been said above, just ignore him if you so wish.2 points

People need to remember this when looking to lambast the Premiership for the ongoing situation Other options that may have been put forward were dismissed as the Championship wanted nothing other than the status quo2 points
