If you’ve heard bumbling Rob Godfrey on one of those podcasts and you know this is actually the “chairman” of the BSPL, as well as a “director” of “speedway futures”, then I’m sorry but nobody can be the least bit surprised at the absolute state of British Speedway currently. Its an incredibly sad state of affairs.

Nobody was saying that in March. In fact one of the prolific Ipswich posters said Belle Vue would be poor away from home all season, and I remember after we won our first away match at Lynn they stated that would be the last time we won away. Its only 2 Ipswich fans moaning and pretending this season doesn't count because they are going to be knocked out in the semi. Birmingham and Oxford both came up to the prem to be Cannon Fodder so does that dilute the 2025 title win.

Because over 200 of them will be used this season again in the top two leagues, and it is now 2026 and not 1976.. The "optics" of what you do nowadays are often the maker, or the breaker, of your success in business.. And Social Media feedback from sometimes millions of people, has replaced half a dozen blokes in the back of a "tap room" moaning about life to each other, whilst another half dozen moaned about exactly the same thing in thousands of other pubs... Now so many have "a voice", which can be great for any business if you are open enough to listen to it.. The bottom line is if you launched Speedway this Monday as a brand new team sport, (using its current operating model), and did it with a huge fanfare and press launch, within an hour the operating model would be slaughtered in the public domain, and ridiculed mercilessly.. And a team sport, which relies 100% on tribal emotional attachment, would fail from the off... Without a credible offering, a business has no chance nowadays, and, in business, not evolving your operating model for over 50 years is simply never going to make you a success in the modern world.. I have no details, but I do think that Mayfield's involvement will result in the top tier becoming something that does have a credible offering..

Because they're fixated that it would help towards a fix for British Speedway. Removing guests won't add anything in improving the product, adding sponsorship and spectators through the turnstiles. Guests is bottom of the pile to fix British Speedway.

It is 37 years since Berwick won the second-level KO Cup -- something Plymouth have never achieved in 95 years -- so everyone at each of these friendly, family clubs has plenty to race for on Saturday night, as well as again down south in a fortnight. yes just watched the 360 interview with Coleman, but some how talking common sense, doesn't get you very far these days.

I really dont understand why the present promoters dont take notice of those who have come into promoting with new ideas to try to make the sport more attractive, surely they themselves would benefit financially from the sport regaining popularity? I think Richard Coleman is the last chance, from some of the things he mentioned in the article in the star some weeks ago he seems like someone who could revitalise the sport and bring in new ideas that are badly needed. If hes another that thinks hes banging his head against a brick wall and walks away i think that will be it for the sport in this country.

Hopefully, the tail no longer wags the dog, and someone (Coleman?), can bring enough with them, (even kicking and screaming), to make the sport (in the top tier), a bona fide team sport, with coverage and sponsors from outside the usual "Speedway Bubble"...

The best of luck to both teams, I hope the result is on pure racing without injury or idiot referring decisions. Good to have the Championship silverware spread about a bit.

As is often said ... Sometimes the lack of scrutiny, publicity and focus, that the sport gets isn't always a bad thing ..😉

And the point I've made is that perhaps they haven't got lucky. Fricke's average has dropped dramatically - and it can be argued that for such a good, proven rider it shouldn't have fallen like that (more than Brennan's has fallen at Ipswich, and he's had a terrible season according to most). Fricke's average was still too high to guest for Holder in away matches until 1st September, so there must have been a great deal of luck involved to get it low enough ...

Unfortunately, the guest rules don't allow for that, and with the added rule of only being allowed to ride for one team in the playoffs, Sheffield had no choice but to bring in somebody who had already 'failed' this season. We have struggled through the season unable to find a suitable replacement for one of the best riders in the world, and Fricke was our only option within the existing rules to have any chance of winning the playoffs. As I said in another thread, had Bewley and Holder's injuries happened in reverse order then the shoe could quite easily have been on the other foot.

Really looking forward to this. Couldn’t be happier for the Bandits and Gladiators; two clubs and fan bases very much deserving of an opportunity to win silverware. Somewhat ironic and peculiar that the tracks couldn’t possibly be any more different or further away from one another.

Far better for the sport to have signed Robert Lambert, (or someone of that ilk), who didn't ride over here... Would have meant credibility but also, just as importantly, got a fair few more through the turnstiles at any of the tracks he rode at...

Looking forward to watching both legs on BSN nice to see two different sides contesting a final rather then the usual suspects

Personally no, I’d say he’s stagnated or even regressed this season. Has looked afraid to really contest first turns and attack the tight technical track.

I hope the Aces don't lose to Sheffield in the final... An open top bus parade down Deansgate has been planned for the day after the 2nd leg ... Dozens are expected .. And a celebration pie and pea supper sorted in the Star and Garter afterwards... Someone who knows the Mayor will be there... Serious stuff this...

Your heat leaders were poor at Scunthorpe, Leon was poor to start with last night but sorted his bike and was much better later on. Pickering wasn't up to his usual standard but no doubt back to his best tonight. So it augurs well for a great meeting and who knows what can happen. Personally I think Connor Mountain at reserve could be the difference, how he has ended up at reserve with his ability is crazy

Poole are a bit like Bartosz , we all know both are very good and almost always win but we want someone else to win.😀

Perhaps if it is considered an important part of any reset to add/reintroduce teams then a review of priority needs to be part of the discussion

After listening to Doyle on the SPG podcast, they sound worse than footy journo's over here

If a rider is good enough they will make it even with no rising star system. No system can make riders better who are not good enough

I take your point but if you use the speedway rules, the player that Haaland replaces would have to be of similar standard, Man Utd clearly do not have anyone of similar standard. Max is replacing Jack who is a better rider than Max.

Maybe the Aces fans are getting a bit nervous with their poor record at Owlerton ? They are just covering their bases and pointing out how 'tin pot' the rules are so that they can undermine our title win if we are succesful. Just a pity they spent most of the last few days bigging it up on the other thread and insisting that any win is worth celebrating. 😉 * Disclaimer - we are still capable of throwing this away at Leicester next week. 😂

I would me thrilled to see BZ makes it seven world titles five on the spin as IMO he is the greatest rider I have ever seen and possible of all time ,on recent form he has not IMO been at the top of his game .I take nothing away from Kurtz or Lambert (his recent form has been outstanding ) anyone of the three fully deserve to win the title my wish is BZ ,Lambert and Kurtz in that order we don't have long now to find out !

Still, I am sure all the KL fans will be delighted to see Max doing so well after an indifferent season, and it looks like they will have more riders in the final than their rivals Ipswich... Charles will remain for the moment, it is likely Fajfer will move the main body with Kordun dropping to Paluch position and Bednar back at 7 depending on both of their recoveries. Anders, Wright, Fajfer, przedpelski in the “main body” so to speak. But Kordun and Bednar are still doubtful although Bednar is more fit and healthy than Kordun. Pollestad to make up the team.

Quite simple, the dates have been announced and Belle Vue get the choice. They can either race on their usual night or have the second leg.

Kurtz is not without backup either I'm sure Doyle on his swansong would be happy to oblige if required .

Last night wasn't really an issue, I think guests for number ones and reserves in Play Offs from a team who didnt qualify is fine. The wider issue is when teams are full of borrowed riders rather than R/R and riders unattached in the Prem. It's got out of hand rather than being a last resort. Based on what exactly other than wild specullation? Why on earth would he fly/drive a 'GP bike' over the the UK for one meeting when he'll need it on Saturday? Hes already scored well for Lynn at Sheffield twice this year on his British bikes and of course wasn't riding against Sheffield last night which makes his job a lot easier, Leicester have majorly gone off the boil unfortunately for them. Also I'm intrigued why Sheffield would be offering a bonus when they've openly said they have struggled with crowds and finances this season?

Leicester gets 💷 to throw a first home defeat of the season to get Ipswich in the Play-Offs, just for both to get whacked in the 1st legs, with Leicester getting butt blasted by former & King's Lynn No1 Max Fricke. These Play-Offs have been EXCELLENT 🤣🤣

Congratulations to all those clubs who didn’t act on their problems this season, therefore offering sub standard below par entertainment to the paying customers home and away. No congratulations though to the club that did act , addressed their problem, kept up the entertainment home and away to the paying public and achieved what is looking like a successful season. Acting professional in a professional sport. Who’d have thought it. There’s always next season where hopefully it’ll be more meaningful for you. If your sorry clubs can be ars*d that is.

That's what I was thinking. Throw in a junior meeting at sidewinders the night before and the possibility of action at Mildura on the Sunday after the GP. What's not to like.
