People spontaneously combusting on here and social media that Coleman has “taken an GP away from Belle Vue and given it to Ipswich instead” are not surprisingly way off yet again. He very much wants the GP at the NSS but there are issues that he’s trying hard to resolve. Everyone is in full agreement that Belle Vue holds the best possible racing. In an ideal world and this is just my opinion, they would have one GP at the NSS every year as standard, and then move the other around different parts of the country for variety and giving supporters from different parts of the UK a chance to go and see a GP without major travelling. I personally thought Woryna parked it a bit too much in front of Freddie and didn’t really give him anywhere to go.5 points

Farcical the gp series could be decided by sprint race points. Since when is a sprint race speedway?5 points

The centre green is being lowered by 600mm with new drainage and the inside of the track lowered by the same amount to give much better banking. obviously the majority of the track will be removed to allow for a much lower sub base and then a new shale surface will go in replacing the awful clay surface. spedeworth are demolishing the existing home straight stand and replacing it with a three tier building right up to the first bend. At a cost of £1.75 million. There will be a tunnel through the stand to enter the track. new pits area as current ones will be in the way of the new lengthened stand. But like you say minimal track changes. 😆5 points

It feels like RC is the kind of character we've needed for many years. As has been said the difficult bit for him will be getting people to follow him but whatever he is proposing has to better than scraping by or losing money every season? There needs to be a longer term plan and a strategy for growth rather than cobbling together the same old format every year and you feel this fella might well be able to provide that. Every interview he does is impressive.5 points

Would snap your hand off for either. ”I was in Wroclaw on Sunday having discussions within the rider market” There is undoubtedly going to be rider(s) shared across the two clubs I think that’s obvious. Riders putting pen to paper for Wroclaw will also be nudged in this direction. It’s going to be fascinating from an Ipswich perspective this winter, more than usual I think. On the track, it was great to hear the plans for that and his determination to improve the racing. Altering the shape slightly, uprooting the drains and completely changing the track surface. It sounds like he’s going to do the job Louis announced he would do but shelved due to costs when he realised the work involved would include uprooting the drains. We also know there will be new track curators here also. Fair play to him. He’s going to make a huge difference to this club, and hopefully British Speedway in general (if he’s allowed…).5 points

I would say why is the GP final being held when Berwick are at Home 🤔😂4 points

Oliver Allen is absolutely clueless, incredible he used to ride speedway yet has so little grip on the rules of the sport. Shocking.4 points

Our friend @ouch has to be odds on favourite, with our even older friend @AceBelle rising like a phoenix from the ashes at evens. Long shots, @mikebv and @PhilTheAce, they’re far too chilled to be the “Ordinary Man” for my money 😁 Edit: Forgot @Rob B! Dark horse for sure!4 points

It isn’t just an Ipswich thing either. It’s nice for southern based supporters everywhere to get an opportunity to see Zmarzlik and Co in the flesh. It should move around more IMO. Maybe Glasgow next stop?4 points

To be fair to the fella why shouldn't Foxhall have a gp you can't say Richard isn't putting a shift in to steer the leaky ship in a better direction he deserves a few personal win's for the time/cash he's putting into the sport.4 points

Nice technical track to sort the men from the boys instead of just throttle jockey. I have to say it'll give the British based riders an advantage for a change.😜4 points

World of Sport finishing was the catalyst... The domestic offering has always been a "bit Mickey Mouse" but lived off the "proper stuff" that you watched on a Saturday afternoon, be it individual championships that meant something, with good prize money, or England winning World Titles .. When domestic UK Speedway had to stand alone without that TV coverage to engage people to attend, it was simply found wanting, and unable to evolve... The TV package was very much highlights driven, therefore the sport looked like it was that way all the time. Eg. Watching PC win three races of his five from the back gave the sport huge interest at the turnstiles when these riders visited... Instead of evolving, the same old, same old has been trotted out year after year, to ever dwindling numbers who, after voicing their frustration for a fair old time, eventually gave up complaining and voted with their feet... UK Speedway is the "Woolworths" of sport in the UK, ie stuck in a one dimensional time warp and unable to change given the skill set of those who lead it... You could walk into a Woolworths in the early 2000's and it looked pretty much the same as it did when you walked in to one as a kid in the 70's.. UK Speedway has a similar vibe...4 points

Get in there Robert, brilliant performance. From his first demo rides round Lynn at 12 years old to this, totally deserved. A proud Norfolker this evening.3 points

IMO he was quicker and got in front, he was then expecting Freddie to put the brakes on which he didn’t do. All opinions end of the day.3 points

It is bent. Jepsen Jensen is knocked out in the first qualifying round. Pawelczak is through to the sprint race final. Yet both Pawelczak's times were slower than Jepsen Jensen's time.3 points

Apart from racing wise it’s a good call on every other level from fans POV and financial point of view, yes the track needs something to improve the racing but rough or not if your the best in the world you should be able to ride it3 points

After his second big crash (when leading!) he returned to the hospital for more tests as he was in extreme pain when trying to turn the bike. Following a second MRI scan, a previously undiagnosed spinal disc rupture injury was discovered. The medics (who missed it the first time) advised upto 6 months rest, so he informed the promotion (he was living at Matt Ford's) that he had to step down and return to Oz for proper recuperation and treatment.3 points

Couldn’t have put it better myself. It’ll be a sell out regardless so those turning their nose up are free to do so, it’ll just make it easier for the rest of us. I’m thoroughly looking forward to both the GP, AND the SGP2 on the Friday. They’re going to be working hard on upgrading the track in the winter, people will do well to actually give them a chance. They may be pleasantly surprised. It’s good to see the worlds best put through their paces on something different to the many identikit tracks they’re used to. Let’s be honest, a fair few of the GP’s have hardly been thrill a minute stuff.3 points

You need to do more research. In fact, you should read the posts just a bit further up this thread. There will be a HUGE amount of work going on at Foxhall over the winter to the track shape, surface, drainage etc to improve the racing. More work done to the venue itself. What will host the GP in just under a year will not be what is there at present. This is a breath of fresh air. Something new to freshen up the World Championship. Seems there are still some who want to continue with the stale status quo. Coleman is here to shake things up and pump life into speedway on the world and British stage. He could well be the person to rescue speedway in this country and get it back to where it needs to be. Why there is so much kickback shocks me.3 points

Just what I want to hear! Even if no speedway fans of other clubs come to Foxhall it will still be sold out, this town and county has a massive sport following and once it does the rounds in the local news it will be hard to get a ticket! I think you’ll see 10,000+ at Foxhall. I hope Coleman gives priority to the witches fans for early ticket sales too.3 points

Well at least I’ve saved some money by not having to buy tickets for the British event.3 points

Heard that Coleman is looking for a non-league football stadium that has a decent capacity where he can lay a track around the pitch. So the 2027 Manchester Grand Prix will be at the Etihad Stadium.3 points

Could somebody please check on the welfare of Messrs Godfrey and “Speedway futures” please? They’ve just taken one massive whack in the nads there from Richard Coleman. LOL.3 points

Sounds to me that Richard Coleman is exactly what speedway needs .I agree with just about everything he says3 points

Well done Robert Lambert. I asked the question earlier today if he had the bottle when it came to the crunch, and he’s proved to have it in bucket loads. Fair play.2 points

Gotta laugh at that graphic from Ipswich as well. Captions “We cannot wait to welcome the best riders in the world to Ipswich in 2027” Then proceed to put up a picture of Tunners! 😁2 points

Richard Coleman is actually going to back all of the talk up. Very rare to see in the world of British Speedway so hats off to him for it.2 points

Almost crazy how much this resonates with me. The Glasgow promotion get so much right, but the music is AWFUL. No word of a lie; it’s a combination of 80s gay disco and an 18th birthday party in the early 90s. I took a friend along for his first experience of speedway last night and he enjoyed it, but he couldn’t stop laughing at the music. It just didn’t match the occasion. Play-off semi-final, a heat that could decide the finalist, four bikes, no brakes, tensions high… and they’re playing Wham’s Club Tropicana.2 points

They can rename it the “Suffolk Grand Prix”. From a northern speedway fans point of view it’s in a location that’s hard to get to and I can’t remember watching much decent racing there. At least Belle Vue offered exciting racing. Looked on the BBC sport website today and couldn’t find a single mention of a British rider having a chance at becoming a World Champion. Going from Cardiff to Belle Vue to Ipswich shows the decline of the sport, in my opinion. Of course I still hope it’s a success, but will be watching on TV.2 points

Very enjoyable and encouraging interview. It’s funny for whatever reason there’s a few posters on here that consistently snipe and hate on Coleman but for me a huge proportion of what he’s saying is what so many have been calling on here for years. Now we actually have someone coming into the sport at international and club level calling for change and trying the lead the sport to increased participation on and off the track for a prosperous future and people are being negative about him 🤷♂️ Its refreshing to have someone with some influence saying “it’s no good just talking about these things, we actually have to get on with making changes for the betterment of everyone” From an Ipswich perspective it’s great to hear this winter he plans on altering the shape, drainage and material at Foxhall with a view to improving the racing!2 points

Really looking forward to this. Couldn’t be happier for the Bandits and Gladiators; two clubs and fan bases very much deserving of an opportunity to win silverware. Somewhat ironic and peculiar that the tracks couldn’t possibly be any more different or further away from one another.2 points
