Could you elaborate please, Steve?6 points

I always cringe when clubs make such threats to the fans. Seen it at Newport with Mallett nearly every week begging for more fans through the gate and it honestly usually made the crowds for the next meeting worse. Clubs should be able to provide everything required to operate without making threats. An insult to the paying fans who have attended all season.4 points

Pretty alarming that some folk can't distinguish tribalism from abuse and violence.4 points

I still remember "The War Of The Roses" meetings against Sheffield as kid.. Brilliant racing? No idea, can't remember, but what I do remember is the several hundred Tiger fans in attendance making for a tremendous atmosphere.. Wolves in the early 90's too always brought many away fans to Kirky Lane, and we the same to Monmore... Was the racing brilliant? Again, don't remember, but the events themselves were... The lower number of tracks, and the constant sharing of riders, has diluted rivalries to almost nothing these days, with a decent away fan following now being a rare thing at most meetings.. The Scottish Derby is often mentioned as being "fierce".. So "fierce" in fact that Edinburgh's best rider guested for Glasgow a few weeks ago.. That cannot do the sport any good if you want to build up some rivalries that actually engage fans.. I've said before, let away fans in for free, or a very nominal fee, and provide them with a section of their own for them to sit or stand in.. Travel costs are high these days, streaming is available too, so let then in for nothing and, hopefully, some atmosphere can get generated that ensures more regular visits from more of the home fans going forward, and, who knows, word may get round that a night at the Speedway is "a good night out"...4 points

Back in the 70's I can, as a Bees supporter, remember having many heated arguments on the terraces with rival fans, especially Leicester folk. In later years it was Cradley and then Poole. But never did I or any of my family feel threatened and I took my kids into the standing areas from a few days old. There's nothing wrong with rivalry. I'm not sure I like the term tribalism but having some emotional attachment to your club is natural and good for the sport. I know we've talked it to death but the lack of a consistent team of riders from week to week let alone from year to year does not foster this sense of attachment.3 points

I will give Scunthorpe credit for making a signing, far too many clubs just use guests.3 points

He said it after the last meeting in the club house post meeting and he said it again in yesterday's programme. How many times does he have to say in 2028 he will not be in charge of the Scorpions and the EWR. 22 years as Promotor and at the same time running his own garage business, not many in the sport have been involved in Speedway for that long. Apart from that ,spending countless hours doing the track work and Chairman of the BSPA, think its up to him when he calls it a day. Hopefully sells it as a going concern and Scunthorpe Scorpions continue and thrive.2 points

As an aside to all the tribal discussion, just seen the World Championship banger meeting starting today at 4pm at Ipswich is sold out and the only way to watch the meeting is on Spedeworth TV. I guess the stadium holds circa 10k and if Spedeworth can organise an event like this then no reason why Mayfield cannot fill the stadium for the GP.2 points

Did the big home crowd give a good round of applause to Harrison on his final Scunny home meeting?2 points

Cairns appears to have a clear disregard for sportsmanship given his ongoing carry on at the start line. Maybe he will grow out of this behaviour.2 points

At the risk of repeating myself, surely the starting marshal has a part to play here. He could not be completely oblivious to what was going on and could have brought it to the referee's attention. Yes, maybe the referee should be aware anyway. But all officials have a responsibility to ensure fair play.2 points

Speedway is a strange sport. Garrity is naturally getting all kinds of negative press because of what he did, and rightly so. The fact is, if he did come back and did well for a club, a lot of people would put his past to one side.2 points
-
Yeah I wouldnt watch it, waste of your valuable time. Hopefully like you many BSN viewers will give it a miss so we dont have to put up with all the moaning.2 points

I think Poole win comfortably. Even if Lawson is struggling with engines after losing a couple lately. Canāt see Scunny winning any races bar Picko and maybe Harrison? Poole could get 602 points
-
That doesnāt really make sense given the failing attendances year on year. Not enough people go to speedway for the racing these days.2 points

Don't think Jody is allowed to ride NDL even if he wanted to, his Championship average being over 4, if that's still the rule. I'd love to see him next season in any league1 point

I don't think it was alleged, it was clearly evidenced on TV with the clouds of smoke from burning rubber filling the air. Unless BSN used AI to create it......1 point

That is absolutely awful from Plymouth.š Iām laughing, but thatās so poor. Itās the biggest meeting of the season and Gladiatorsā fans will already be gutted about the first leg, but instead of a galvanising article, itās: we need Ā£46K or youāll have no speedway next season. What a prospect, walking into the Coliseum; about a 2% chance of winning the trophy and faced with the prospect this will be the last meeting at Plymouth. P*ss poor from the powers that be at Plymouth and a prime example of why British speedway is in the state itās in. In other sports, sensibility prevails. In British speedway, it doesnāt. Remarkable thatās been given the green light for release. At least two grown adults have read that and thought āyeah, thatāll doā.1 point

He's still got an average over 8. And he's pure box office. He might not win as many races as in previous years but when he does the crowd go home talking about it. Any rider who brings fans through the turnstiles is worth considering, surely.1 point

The cad. And dangerous too with these tyres. According to Lightcap, the track was really slick so maybe Will was just trying to wear away some of the nobblies so his tyre would slide across the shiny surface?1 point

A real shame for the Scorpions having two riders completely off it, when the rest of the team are riding so well. Poole far from their best, but everybody contributing at least something, which should be more than enough for them now in the second leg.1 point

I would've said similar...until my club shut down. Watching a very good meeting as a neutral is good, but watching an average meeting in a stadium with 20k people and an electric atmosphere is miles better. People absolutely care about it.1 point

Indeed, which is exactly my point. I didn't claim the British Empire doesn't have a dark history. I'm simply pointing out that to say the Russian history doesn't compare - like our slightly mad forum member is trying to do - is completely absurd. He was trying to compare the Russian-Ukraine situation to British history, while completely glossing over the Russian history. Look back at the thread.1 point

How utterly boring, last winter was far more interesting than the actual season which is about to conclude š„¹. Putting fans of clubs through torture should be an essential ingredient of the sport, after all what will there be to talk about for 4 months if everything's cut and dried by end of November?1 point

Not quite right. The Chairman for the majority of the National League's (extremely successful) independent run in the '80s was actually Danny Dunton. Mervyn Stewkesbury took over for the 1988 season -- elected after a contest with Martin Rogers -- but was promoter at Poole by then, having moved from Weymouth in 1985. Mervyn headed the NL for three seasons, before engineering the re-amalgamation of the two leagues for 1991. This moved Poole, Ipswich, Berwick and Wimbledon (who became Eastbourne mid-season), up, but left the NL in bad shape and led to the disastrous "one big league" of 1995/6. History thus warns us of what can happen when the top league pulls successful clubs out of a well-run second division. In conclusion, were the current Championship to go its own way, run its own affairs, this might not be a bad thing at all.1 point

Because they know you need that tribal emotional attachment to your team, if you want a team sport to be successful... Injuries happen, and bad luck happens, in all sports... Jeopardy and consequence being fundamental to any successful sport.. Bringing in guests would see fans, sponsors, and TV all disappear rapidly...1 point
-
Could you ask Poole why they scored 57 points against Edinburgh? I would have liked a 8-10 point lead for Poole to make the second leg more interesting.1 point
-
I think the fact Berwick have a 100 percent record at home proves fans will turn up to watch a winning side at home. Throw in a cup final after knocking out the league champions elect as well and its no wonder the crowd was big. Fans dont care about the racing on the whole , they want to see their team win. Exeter were proof of this, great spectacle of a track with you being so close to the action but mainly gate and go, heavy home wins every week and they had good crowds right up until they shut despite usually being rubbish away from home. Morris will be one of the signings of the season next year I am sure, he has been flying the second half of the season.1 point
