What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
Bagpuss replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Fair enough, I think we have crossed wires slightly here. I don't disagree with a lot of what you've said, my original point was about getting top riders to come to Lynn who aren't over here already. In that regard it's not about money but rather their desire to come over. I can't ever see Buster outbidding Ipswich for Doyle or BV for Bewley for example and in that regard I suspect we are a 'have not'. I have no issue with that at all, but it does grate when he is accused of being a skinflint etc (not by you) when he puts a fair old whack into a club which doesnt have the biggest crowds (although they have improved this year). All that said I'd love him to offer Fricke more than Leicester ๐ -

It was ever thus. -
Second nature to Lynn fans ๐

Can see Kvech, Harris, Klindt and Cook returning. Lambert and Rushen would be great, maybe Jody if Rushen doesnt want Prem yet. Then somebody fresh and exciting from the SGP2 stable at 6. If no Lambert as is likely then probably a solid team again, however the departure of Lawson suggests something might be in the pipeline at number one.

Difficult to disagree with any of that, however @szkocjasid makes a good point, there is no incentive for clubs to move up if there are few/no heatleaders available. If the Premiership WANTS to expand then the only way that can happen is to free up some riders however unfair and unpalatable that might be. If it wants to have 5-6 teams then there is no need to change. Its an almost impossible circle to square. -

StarBoy is correct, its not about money at Lynn. Have heard that directly. They have tried numerous 'number ones' and the only one who has shown any interest is Lambert, but he is married to a Polish girl and settled over there which makes it difficult. Sheffield's inability to replace Woffinden like for like illustrates how difficult it is to get top riders over who arent already here. When you read how much top riders in Poland get you can see why most aren't bothered about top whack money over here, its not worth the hassle. -
Yep three full seasons, he did five meetings at the end of 1990 after that Bradford World Final appearance and then 91, 92 & 93. Lee was 1991 and what a waste of everyone's time that was. Had Knight stayed instead we would have finished much higher than 8th.

Assets no longer exist though do they?

Henka was a bit too fond of a beer to be World Champion. Still the most exciting rider I've ever seen or ever likely to see though, those three seasons he had at Lynn were incredible.
-
Not sure I'd agree with that, he averaged five and a half which I would say is about right for him in the Prem nowadays. I suspect Morris' availability had more to do with it.
-
I'd be very happy if he did.

The contract already signed could be for his French club!

The only place that is being said is in your head. All folk want are tracks where those who don't get to the first bend in front have a fighting chance of winning the race. It really shouldn't be difficult. Tracks which don't allow this are doing huge damage to British speedway as a whole.
-
Maybe its an anti crap speedway rhetoric. In my expereince that happens on here whatever the track if a meeting has been broadcast and its not good. Which is completely different to charging more than you usually would for the other dozen or so meetungd if the season. Bit of a kick in the teeth IMO.

I suspect he means that he is championship standard and would be doing very well in it if he was old enough. No problem with Mulford riding, it can be difficult to get riders to commit and stay committed to these meetings. As for the racing, the range of abilities was quite big and its a circuit that many of the riders wont have ridden or don't very often. The important thing is the track time, the learning and the improvement the riders will show across the night and going into their subsequent meetings.

Bewley Bomber Emil D Thompson Rushen

There's a middle ground though. Give the riders who want to entertain and race something to work with without making it 'easy' for them. Poole are a very good team and dont need to completely doctor a track to win, and I wouldn't put it past them winning the second leg too on a track which will most likely provide plenty of lines and passing.
