Personally I'd have kept the 3-2-1-0-1-2-3-4 scoring system which awarded the away team two points for a draw anyway. One of the best ideas British Speedway has come up with in recent years and they scrapped it!
-
If there was somebody out there on the right average who could step in for a month or so then I'd say yes but it would need to be an 'oven ready' signing rather than a newcomer or one for the future. It would definitely save the ball ache of guests if he drops to reserve for May.

Belle Vue Aces vs Oxford Spires 14th April 2025
Bagpuss replied to Garry1603's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yep I think the reason they are so strong both on paper and on track is that you could make a strong argument that they have the best rider in the league for most positions in the team and there not be much in it for the positions they aren't. As I've said before they are top heavy and solid all at the same time. Not particularly looking forward to May 5th in all honesty! -
The only issue is getting decent guests every time you need one. Might be better having Klindt down there which should be a guaranteed decent score from 6/7 rides every time and then mix and match R/R and guests for Cook as required.

King's Lynn vs Leicester 14/04/25 Premiership R1
Bagpuss replied to IainB's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Lynn are never going to rip up the template after four league matches, nor are they going to dispense with Kvech in April. And personally I would only replace Cook if he was going to drop to reserve, and even then only temporarily. All very well saying '8 point and 5 point assessed' riders but who is realistically going to come over when they've got their season planned out and Poland had started. -

Nor me, it was all a bit odd really. Just glad we got over the line. Something to build on. -

We should have won that far more comfortably, Leicester are a pretty ordinary side and we threw so many points away yet again. Fingers crossed Ben Cook is ok, he looked a much better rider tonight after his first race EF. Track was a bit funky to begin with but once it settled down I thought there was some decent action. -

King's Lynn vs Leicester 14/04/25 Premiership R1
Bagpuss replied to IainB's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It is a very important meeting but we do have three more meetings against Leicester so all wouldn't be lost. However we've seen in recent seasons how difficult it is to play catch up if you make a really bad start. -
Certainly not based on one meeting and I could be completely wrong but we will see. As for who Cooper signs for in a year or so I expect every club will have a conversation with him and his family and he has plenty of time to decide his future.

Im going to stick my neck out and say that he'll end up being better than Cairns all things being equal.

King's Lynn vs Leicester 14/04/25 Premiership R1
Bagpuss replied to IainB's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
As has been said this is a must win for Lynn, and there is a bit of pressure with three league defeats so far. However the home form has been pretty good and they really should be sitting on two wins from two on home shale so no reason to fear Leicester despite their strengths. 48-42 -
That's an incredibly disappointing evening for the Stars. Presumably whatever went on Bomber's machine affected him for the rest of the night but as a team 33 just isn't good enough. Much, much better required on Thursday at Sheffield.

I reckon you could make it work by giving the two number eights some match races before/during/after the meeting and the experience of them being around some world class riders in the pits and on the track walk for the evening would be invaluable. It wouldn't even necessarily need to be the same number 8 every week, could just be two local nominated riders. It's got to be better than the alternatives.
-
Amongst all the garbage on this thread a very good point was raised about a Rising Star withdrawing through injury. As has been said its ripe for manipulation, I'd have thought the best solution would be to have a number 8 on hand to take any remaining rides of the minimum three that the RS would have had to take including the obligatory heat 8. I don't think it's fair for the other reserve to take heat 8 really.

Absolutely no need for it to be, Lynn would have won that at a canter without three enormous slices of bad fortune. Nothing to be concerned about as disappointing as the final score was. But that's speedway. Belle Vue did the necessary in heats 12 & 14 to set up the win when those heats really ought to have been Lynn heat advantages so credit to them, and it was a great race to finish which shows the value of transponders. Let's see what we can do up there on Monday and fingers crossed Ashton will be fit.

Ipswich v Belle Vue 27th March KOC 2nd leg

I think the biggest compliment you can pay Ipswich is that they are top heavy AND rock solid all at the same time so far. They look scarily good. -
Kings Lynn Stars vs Oxford Spires KO Cup 24th March
Bagpuss replied to StarBoy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We did wonder if Bomber might come into heat 13 in Ben's place but that would have been four rides on the trot for him after the interval which I don't think would have been realistic.
