  1. Arc only want a dog track with a high wall around it. TV betting will pay for everything else and no need to use the stadium for anything else.

  2. Scotty tried it for half a season and it didn't work for him. I'll disagree with you it's not turning their back on UK speedway it's about being a professional who wants to progress as far as possible in his chosen career. You wouldn't stay with the same company who year after year struggled to keep their head above water if you could enhance your career with a more forward thinking and financially stronger company. It not Bewley, Lambert's or Tai's fault that UK speedway has a trash operation that attracts zero investment from outside. Three very talented and professional riders who deserve to succeed and earn a few quid on the way.

  3. I did wonder how long the relationship would last at Sittingbourne now a new owner has taken over the dog racing at Central Park. I do believe Roger Cearns is no longer involved ? So that's Kent , Birmingham, Newcastle, and Poole all with dodgy landlords. It is amazing that landlords of stadia seem happy to take NO RENT AT ALL from a tenant rather than a modest increase. It's hardly likely that they have a queue of new tenants with bulging wallets .......... unless the ulterior motive is to run the stadia into the ground with no sporting activities and then sell out for mega bucks to a property developer.(or a car park entrepreneur)

  4. That's why I fear for future of Birmingham and Newcastle as they all have the same landlord and somthing tells me they are not a speedway friendly outfit

  5. A perfect move for Dan at this stage of his career.. Too many GB lads didnt make that risky jump into a more pressured environment and stagnated, when they could have maybe progressed up the Speedway ladder... The vast majority of races he is in now will have at least one top level rider up at the tapes with him which can only help improve his own performance... Missing the start and passing sometimes all three others in Sweden and Poland wont be as easy as he seems to find it in the UK so his gating will need to be consistently sharp which can only help him at World Individual and Team level... Hopefully he will appear in some individual events over here like the Peter Craven Memorial as he one rider that definitely is "worth the admission" to watch.... A big couple of years for Dan coming up I would think, let's hope it goes well for him as having a couple of successful young lads like Bewley and Lambert at World Class level can only help get the sport in the UK more publicity off the back of it..

  6. From memory I think the team was Sanchez, Harris, Wolf(who got sacked immediately after our meeting), Prynne, Simon Phillips, Zagar plus a Czech I think. They are getting beat most weeks and we turned up with a very strong side. We were winning 34-44 with heats 14 and 15 to come, and were then without Jesper Olsen due to engine and injury problems. They got an 8-1 in heat 14 and followed that up with a 5-1 in heat 15 to win by 47-46. The crowd went ballistic, and I stood on the track applauding them cos the meeting, and their graciousness in victory, was what sport is all about. Wonderful experience captured on a tape I have, but now no machine to run it on and relive the experience.

  7. Having married a Glasgow lass who was living in England and being an englishman becoming apart of a very welcoming scottish family , i was advised whilst out and about in Scotland to be wary of the fact that some see certain terms used to describe a scotsman as being very offensive and some of those terms have been used on this thread, so i can see why some have not taken it as banter and others not realising the terms are being taken as offensive.

  10. I would never derogatise the Scottish people, all I've met have been nice and good fun, but I don't think Nicola Sturgeon has done Scotland any favours really as Johnson hasn't done 'us' any.

  11. I think this is fair. I’m not necessarily offended though I just think it’s a bit wide of the mark and not very funny. I wouldn’t go about calling Irish people paddys for example.

  16. Its simply being led by a group of like minded people sponsors/helpers/fans that cannot accept the end of speedway at Arlington and I am one of them. All of us have invested and lost, money into the previous club. Having spoken with Trevor, I am convinced he had knew little regarding the financial side of the club and he was as surprised as any of us when it all went wrong! We have a group of people that will be working with Trevor running the business side of things. As for the 'money man' there is no 'single knight in shining armour' that has come along but there are several people looking to invest. Getting the funds in place to be able to commit to 2022 would be extremely difficult but it can be done for 2023. As mentioned elsewhere, we will be looking to share more information when we have it and hopefully have some events where we can meet with people and let them get to know us. Hopefully you will come along to such an event?

  19. We did find the champs bar and had a few pints and some good chat with the locals. In fact it was me who shout "Yes you did" when Stevie Worrall talked about winning the Cup in 2014 with the Monarchs, in fact he won the treble that year. It's always good at Poole with some good racing unfortunately mostly Monarchs getting passed. Our heat leaders appeared to have ran out of steam a bit at the end of the season, that's the first time all year we've lost a 5-1 in heat 13 and 15. In the league match it was 3-3 and then 1-5 so we were capable of better. Best team over the 2 legs won and deservedly so. It is great to see large crowds at the speedway at Poole just a shame with all the matches getting crammed in we couldn't get decent travelling support for either leg or even a more deserving size of home support at the Edinburgh leg. We were intending staying for the Friday evening match as well but were back up the road early after the postponements. For the Monarchs it has been a decent season with some really good moments and some fgreat performances but a winter to think of what might have been and roll on 2022.

  20. Their is a better way, just exclude any rider who moves prior to the start when the green light is on, no replacement. This would eradicate all the nonsense at the tapes in a few meetings. Very few riders get excluded for a second offence in a meeting having been officially warned once, so they clearly know they get no leeway for trying to cheat.

  21. I have just started reading the new book from journalist Andrew Edwards. In it, Peter Collins opens up about his ongoing boycott of Belle Vue and the recent promotions. All this is such a shame - it's difficult to comprehend why after all this time, PC can't find it in himself to bury the hatchet and get back to Belle Vue where he belongs. PC must be nudging 70 by now and life is just too short to be consumed by bitterness. PC, if by any chance you get to see this post, the thousands of fans are surely more important than the few individuals with whom you have a grievance. You are Belle Vue's greatest living legend and would be guaranteed an overwhelming reception at the NSS.

  22. A great rider and it was a pleasure to see him ride everyweek he was often taken for granted.Alonside Bettsy, Willy, and the Boocock brothers he was a terrific servant and rider for a long period of time.He is in the group of terrific Robins riders we have been fortunate to see he is there with Briggs, Crump, Broady, Kilby, Adams, Doyle.

  23. Start Marshalls need to be much more consistent and in line with every club in the league like in Poland. No lining up at an angle other than 90 degrees to the tapes. Front wheel one inch from tapes, which need to be taut. If a rider moves they will hit the tapes and be exc. if they roll back, the will be exc.

  32. Lakeside were never granted Friday as a primary race night , they were supposed to be Saturdays but Cook arranged as many fixtures as possible on his preferred Friday dates which caused the fixture congestion . This was when fixtures were arranged between individual promoters and not a central source so no one cottoned on to what he had done till the fixtures were published and it caused major issues.

  35. Same applies to Berwick this season, their riders got significantly more track time and developed a lot more than they would in the NJL. The National League is a lot better standard the the NJL and i've yet to see a 'wobbler' as one has said on here. Hopefully both teams back in the National League next year.

  39. I've said all this before but it is still very relevant. The Louis/Godfrey vision of the 3rd Division is a novice League full of wobblers, no experienced riders and no standalone tracks which is so far from it where it needs to be in reality. Also forget about the pairs half hearted and aborted "British Junior" League. In 2021 the gap between the 3rd Division and the 2nd Division was way too big which is a major stumbling block to riders trying to make their way up the ladder unless as Barry Bishop stated they are exceptional talents that would have made it whatever system was in place. See this is where Chris Louis (like his father before him) doesn't "get it" cause he was an exceptional rider who became an 8 point 2nd tier rider after only one season. What British speedway has lacked since the 90's and it was in decline then was numerous British 1st tier and 2nd tier league journeymen, guys who wern't ever going to be World Champions but were regular, loyal servants to teams and being home grown local people took more interest in going to their nearest track. I saw this first hand from first watching at the Firs Stadium Norwich then the 1970's halcyon days at Ipswich, King's Lynn and Mildenhall. Locally based competitors is major reason why stock car racing is more popular in East Anglia than what speedway is. The 3rd Division has over its various guises since its 1994 formation been a less choppy water for new tracks to test the water, former tracks to reopen and tracks struggling in higher Leagues to run at a financially viable and competitive level. This is what disappoints me about Rob Godfreys stance on the 3rd tier cause he only reopened Scunthorpe (an area that struggled to run viable speedway in the 70's and 80's )in the 00's when it offered the beforementioned values. The likes of Birmingham and Eastbourne only kept going a few years ago because the 3rd tier was in place and offered a viable set up. Mildenhall I doubt would have ever reopened to speedway had the 3rd Division not been around. At this moment in time I suspect more than half the current teams running in the Championship struggle to be viable and would be better suited to racing at a cheaper amateur level. The 3rd tier doesn't need to be turned into a complete novice League because you already had successful junior Leagues below it in the well run Midland and Northern Junior Leagues to cater for novice riders. Experienced 3rd tier journeymen riders who won't ever make the regular step up to higher League like Luke Priest was in the past and Connor Coles is shouldn't be blocked from riding in the League if they wish to race cause they will provide better learning opportunities for newcomers racing against them than just racing against fellow novice riders and can provide good racing. Obviously there should be limits on the number of "old hands" in 3rd tier teams but wiping them out completely would be counter productive. What needs to happen is the top 2 Leagues merge into a bigger top flight at a level slightly better than the current Championship while those 2nd tier clubs that can't make it pay to drop down into a new 2nd tier that is at a level inbetween the current Championship and National League. Then 2 Junior Leagues below this level called the Northern League and the Southern League be formed organised in a similar way to what the well run Midland and Northern Leagues were.

  42. Not the full package? Only Jack Holder, Dan Bewley and Sam Masters managed the higher average last season. 50% of all his rides for Sheffield were either winning races or paid wins. He is British and qualifies for a reduction on his average. He is on record as wanting to comeback to the club next season He will do for me.

  43. Speaking of which, how many French speedway riders do people know? I've been checking a few things.... David Bellego, born 15 May 1993, Marmande, France; Dimitri Berge, born 5 February, 1996, Marmande, France; Adam Ellis, born 21 March 1996, Marmande, France; Steven Goret, born 15 June 2002, Marmande, France. What is it about Marmande (a nondescript little town on the Garonne, 35 miles south east of Bordeaux)? In a country that has no cultural history of speedway - no league, no teams - how come four top-drawer riders should emerge from a complete backwater?... and all born in the first half of the year. What goes on there? It makes me wonder whether some speedway icon of the 70's and 80's bought himself a holiday home in the town after his retirement from the sport and spent the summer months in the 90's servicing the romantic needs of the local maidens, thus spawning an entire dynasty of top-notch speedway riders for the 2020's. Thoughts anyone?

  44. Eastbourne - Ian Jordan was in the press both local media and Speedway Star stating riders , outstanding debts , season tickets , refunds , air-fence sponsorship monies would be paid back by Oct. Carol Jordan was sending replies to some fans stating delays or check your bank account etc etc - Now it would seem they have gone incommunicado . One un-named rider told Speedway Star he hasn't been paid. Jake Knight stated the very same on facebook and now Drew Kemp has said much the same in the Speedway Star. Pretty poor but nothing surprises me in how speedway is run.

  47. Only 42 points per meeting. Averages based on 4 rides per rider per meeting. For heat 15 a riders average is usually divided by 5 (5 races instead of 4). Scoring 8 points from 4 races is the same average as scoring 10 points from 5 races.

  48. Going back to the NDL and its rider developmentsuccess or failure - for me there needs to be a clear distinction of what success means. For example, there are riders who will always make it regardless (Gilks, Brennan, Edwards, Bewley, Lambert, Pallin), those that enter the NL on 3.00 and leave on 9 plus.. they would have made it regardless of the league structures or if there was only second halves after main meetings and amateur meetings available to them. For me success or failure of the NDL is whether those riders who perhaps have to work a bit harder (I dont know a different phrase for this and I am not suggesting that those who will make it regardless have not or do not work extremely hard for their success and indeed I am sure it always contributes to it), for example here Danny Ayres, Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell, where participating in the National league really made a huge difference to them and was probably the only way the made it to higher leagues. Can we say in 2021 any middle order riders at the start of the league are now able to make the step up? This is where the NDL should really come in to its own for rider development in my view, for riders like Spooner, Verge, Coles to really give them the step up they need to Championship but also a "challenging" cushion in the NDL for confidence and experience. And the only other option is to have a properly MDL/NJL formated and enforced second teams to run, without fail, after every league meeting by every UK club.
