  1. Arc only want a dog track with a high wall around it. TV betting will pay for everything else and no need to use the stadium for anything else.

  2. Scotty tried it for half a season and it didn't work for him. I'll disagree with you it's not turning their back on UK speedway it's about being a professional who wants to progress as far as possible in his chosen career. You wouldn't stay with the same company who year after year struggled to keep their head above water if you could enhance your career with a more forward thinking and financially stronger company. It not Bewley, Lambert's or Tai's fault that UK speedway has a trash operation that attracts zero investment from outside. Three very talented and professional riders who deserve to succeed and earn a few quid on the way.

  3. I did wonder how long the relationship would last at Sittingbourne now a new owner has taken over the dog racing at Central Park. I do believe Roger Cearns is no longer involved ? So that's Kent , Birmingham, Newcastle, and Poole all with dodgy landlords. It is amazing that landlords of stadia seem happy to take NO RENT AT ALL from a tenant rather than a modest increase. It's hardly likely that they have a queue of new tenants with bulging wallets .......... unless the ulterior motive is to run the stadia into the ground with no sporting activities and then sell out for mega bucks to a property developer.(or a car park entrepreneur)

  4. That's why I fear for future of Birmingham and Newcastle as they all have the same landlord and somthing tells me they are not a speedway friendly outfit

  5. A perfect move for Dan at this stage of his career.. Too many GB lads didnt make that risky jump into a more pressured environment and stagnated, when they could have maybe progressed up the Speedway ladder... The vast majority of races he is in now will have at least one top level rider up at the tapes with him which can only help improve his own performance... Missing the start and passing sometimes all three others in Sweden and Poland wont be as easy as he seems to find it in the UK so his gating will need to be consistently sharp which can only help him at World Individual and Team level... Hopefully he will appear in some individual events over here like the Peter Craven Memorial as he one rider that definitely is "worth the admission" to watch.... A big couple of years for Dan coming up I would think, let's hope it goes well for him as having a couple of successful young lads like Bewley and Lambert at World Class level can only help get the sport in the UK more publicity off the back of it..

  6. From memory I think the team was Sanchez, Harris, Wolf(who got sacked immediately after our meeting), Prynne, Simon Phillips, Zagar plus a Czech I think. They are getting beat most weeks and we turned up with a very strong side. We were winning 34-44 with heats 14 and 15 to come, and were then without Jesper Olsen due to engine and injury problems. They got an 8-1 in heat 14 and followed that up with a 5-1 in heat 15 to win by 47-46. The crowd went ballistic, and I stood on the track applauding them cos the meeting, and their graciousness in victory, was what sport is all about. Wonderful experience captured on a tape I have, but now no machine to run it on and relive the experience.

  7. Having married a Glasgow lass who was living in England and being an englishman becoming apart of a very welcoming scottish family , i was advised whilst out and about in Scotland to be wary of the fact that some see certain terms used to describe a scotsman as being very offensive and some of those terms have been used on this thread, so i can see why some have not taken it as banter and others not realising the terms are being taken as offensive.

  10. I would never derogatise the Scottish people, all I've met have been nice and good fun, but I don't think Nicola Sturgeon has done Scotland any favours really as Johnson hasn't done 'us' any.

  11. I think this is fair. I’m not necessarily offended though I just think it’s a bit wide of the mark and not very funny. I wouldn’t go about calling Irish people paddys for example.

  16. Its simply being led by a group of like minded people sponsors/helpers/fans that cannot accept the end of speedway at Arlington and I am one of them. All of us have invested and lost, money into the previous club. Having spoken with Trevor, I am convinced he had knew little regarding the financial side of the club and he was as surprised as any of us when it all went wrong! We have a group of people that will be working with Trevor running the business side of things. As for the 'money man' there is no 'single knight in shining armour' that has come along but there are several people looking to invest. Getting the funds in place to be able to commit to 2022 would be extremely difficult but it can be done for 2023. As mentioned elsewhere, we will be looking to share more information when we have it and hopefully have some events where we can meet with people and let them get to know us. Hopefully you will come along to such an event?

  17. Much easier to race Poland and Sweden with one set of equipment and team of mechanics than it is to do Poland and UK.

  19. We did find the champs bar and had a few pints and some good chat with the locals. In fact it was me who shout "Yes you did" when Stevie Worrall talked about winning the Cup in 2014 with the Monarchs, in fact he won the treble that year. It's always good at Poole with some good racing unfortunately mostly Monarchs getting passed. Our heat leaders appeared to have ran out of steam a bit at the end of the season, that's the first time all year we've lost a 5-1 in heat 13 and 15. In the league match it was 3-3 and then 1-5 so we were capable of better. Best team over the 2 legs won and deservedly so. It is great to see large crowds at the speedway at Poole just a shame with all the matches getting crammed in we couldn't get decent travelling support for either leg or even a more deserving size of home support at the Edinburgh leg. We were intending staying for the Friday evening match as well but were back up the road early after the postponements. For the Monarchs it has been a decent season with some really good moments and some fgreat performances but a winter to think of what might have been and roll on 2022.

  20. Their is a better way, just exclude any rider who moves prior to the start when the green light is on, no replacement. This would eradicate all the nonsense at the tapes in a few meetings. Very few riders get excluded for a second offence in a meeting having been officially warned once, so they clearly know they get no leeway for trying to cheat.

  21. I have just started reading the new book from journalist Andrew Edwards. In it, Peter Collins opens up about his ongoing boycott of Belle Vue and the recent promotions. All this is such a shame - it's difficult to comprehend why after all this time, PC can't find it in himself to bury the hatchet and get back to Belle Vue where he belongs. PC must be nudging 70 by now and life is just too short to be consumed by bitterness. PC, if by any chance you get to see this post, the thousands of fans are surely more important than the few individuals with whom you have a grievance. You are Belle Vue's greatest living legend and would be guaranteed an overwhelming reception at the NSS.

  22. Not sure what your point is by trying to shame Speedway Updates for wrong use of terminology with the word guest. Speedway updates is a brilliant resource. It's completely unofficial, unpaid, and run by fantastic volunteers. Shame on you trying to pull them up for using the wrong word. To get it right, you could of course read the Speedway Regulations (available free online) where you would learn under what circumstances a club is eligible to use a guest, and under what circumstances it isn't eligible to use a guest, and must use an unattached rider instead. The consensus of opinion seems to be that the NL has made a move in the right direction by limiting the circumstances in which a guest can be used, and moving towards giving unattached riders the opportunities instead. But clearly nothing suits you. So perhaps you could enlighten us all what would stop your moaning? So, here's the question:- A rider in a team suffers a fall during his team's match and bangs his head. He's ruled out with concussion for 9 days. His team have a meeting 7 days later. They are already using R/R. Who should replace the concussed rider in this meeting? a) A rider from another team (a guest) b) A rider not in another team (an unattached rider) c) Something else (please explain) Now we know you don't approve of a), and you are whinging about b), so please explain your option c).

  23. I think he rode for Exeter in the 60's and I first saw him in action as a promoter at Hackney when West Ham used to go there. He was always near the start line and jumped up and down a lot. My next encounter has been at Sittingbourne, but he was in the background. Put on a good show though and if it is true that he has left, it will not be good for the club. I wish him all the best if he does retire.

  24. Start Marshalls need to be much more consistent and in line with every club in the league like in Poland. No lining up at an angle other than 90 degrees to the tapes. Front wheel one inch from tapes, which need to be taut. If a rider moves they will hit the tapes and be exc. if they roll back, the will be exc.

  29. Whilst the whole "jock" thing doesn't really offend me I do wonder what people opinions would be of other derogatory terms used to describe a race of people. Don't see why the faux offended on here think things like that are acceptable. As far that nonsense that the people in our cities are less friendly than elsewhere what utter BS. Spend more than 5 minutes in the country before coming out with sweeping generalisations. I got slaughtered for generalising your fan base you've just generalised about 2m people.

  31. My auntie used to live in Cornwall. I went one night, it was against Somerset and was brilliant - the kind of track you can't forget. Harris and Emiliano Sanchez were the Trelawny top two. Can only remember Jason Prynne and a German (I think) rider - somebody Wolf was it?

  37. Pre Covid in Sweden crowds were considerably larger than in the UK... Not Poland level obviously but a basic meeting would get 2000 or so... And, given they don't run Mickey Mouse rules, it means they do have some credibility and have a nationally recognised company sponsoring the league....

  38. Thanks for that Scotchopper. Steve and I would have come and said hello if we had known who you were. Thanks for the kind words. At least you were gracious in defeat and an honest assessment of the two legs overall. It's a pity that a certain Mr Jan Andersen couldn't bring himself to be more pleasant. Hope to get up to Armadsle next season as Steve and I were on the Northern tour in the summer when we had that horrendous weather. See you hopefully next season.

  39. One of the most imaginative venues you could find for Speedway. In a clay park with an adjacent lagoon, the refs big bus and a cracking racing track. The magic was ramped up when late on in the evening the mist used to descend to above the track level, and it just looked like a film set. Magic venue with fans to match.

  46. Going back to the NDL and its rider developmentsuccess or failure - for me there needs to be a clear distinction of what success means. For example, there are riders who will always make it regardless (Gilks, Brennan, Edwards, Bewley, Lambert, Pallin), those that enter the NL on 3.00 and leave on 9 plus.. they would have made it regardless of the league structures or if there was only second halves after main meetings and amateur meetings available to them. For me success or failure of the NDL is whether those riders who perhaps have to work a bit harder (I dont know a different phrase for this and I am not suggesting that those who will make it regardless have not or do not work extremely hard for their success and indeed I am sure it always contributes to it), for example here Danny Ayres, Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell, where participating in the National league really made a huge difference to them and was probably the only way the made it to higher leagues. Can we say in 2021 any middle order riders at the start of the league are now able to make the step up? This is where the NDL should really come in to its own for rider development in my view, for riders like Spooner, Verge, Coles to really give them the step up they need to Championship but also a "challenging" cushion in the NDL for confidence and experience. And the only other option is to have a properly MDL/NJL formated and enforced second teams to run, without fail, after every league meeting by every UK club.

  47. Brilliant result to round off a very successful season for the Bullets, whether or not they go on to win the league. Leon Flint and Kyle Bickley doubled up with the Bandits and, in particular I think it would give Kyle confidence to score big points when he sometimes struggled for the Bandits. Luke Crang stepped in for Leon and his scores against Mildenhall (home) and Kent (tonight) might just win them the league. Greg Blair re-discovered his love for the sport, gave the crowd great entertainment and became a bit of a cult figure. Ben Rathbone, Mason Watson, Ryan MacDonald and Keiron Douglas all developed a lot more than they would just riding in the NJL. I've enjoyed watching the Bullets matches this season, both as double headers and on their own. Hopefully the promotion continue the team next season.
