Mate, you've made your point, it's getting a little bit boring now.6 points

Do we really need all this personal crap.Better talking about speedway.4 points

It was also in the Edinburgh programme that Alan Dick phoned the Edinburgh ProMotion earlier in the day to warn them about the problems on M6 and let their riders know if any were travelling that way.So perhaps there was Co-operation between Promotions given the circumstances.4 points

Gary Guglielmi at Coventry. When he first arrived he couldn’t finish a second half novices race, he kept falling. It became a standing joke as to which lap and corner he would fall at. Although off track situations blighted his career he became a very good rider.3 points

Track curation is an art, you can't just lay a new track and expect it to work straight away. Listen to what the riders said last night, it will improve over time once it beds in. They changed the track during one of the wetest winters in history down there, they can't just chuck a load of shale on it and hope for the best, it will take time..3 points

Maybe more recently... When I used to go there, there was some fantastic racing given its small size but wide bends..3 points

I’m afraid this debate appears to be between defined reality and your deluded utopia.3 points

Definitely Roger Johns! He always had "potential", but was unable to fulfill it. His Second Division averages were okay - nothing great - and generally, his BL averages were poor when he moved up. For some reason, he started to develop in 1978, and ended up becoming a Dons legend! The moves he would make, like sweeping around the boards, or making one of his famous cutbacks, became the norm. At Plough Lane, he would regularly beat the opposition No.1, often in great style. In 1980, he inflicted the only defeat on Bruce Penhall in Heat 13 of the BL clash. There was the famous last heat 5-1 with Edward Jancarz (from the back) over Ole Olsen and Mitch Shirra to get us a draw against Coventry! His best night was probably when he beat Peter Collins twice - from the back - on his way to a full maximum against Belle Vue. Then, there was the KOC clash at Hyde Rd in 1980, when he scored 16 paid 17, and beat Collins three times. Never a superstar, but Johnsy provided some of the greatest trackcraft I've ever seen.2 points

still enjoyed it . riders hace rode/raced in far worst conditions than last saturday . tear offs are there for a reason , to tear off ! lap times were a bit slower , but still good . well done to all riders who took part , good effort . thank god you do not have to go to plymouth and endure that week in , week out .. Have a feeling this could be a banana skin for Belle Vue with 3 ex aces riders plus 3 big track riders in Brummies team.you never know.2 points

after watching this so called speedway meeting on BSN i would not travel to see ANY races at this venue .its an absolute shambles of a track . i thougt some pikies had broken in and tried to pinch some shale . no passing ( apart from B.B. ) but thats just me , or is it ?2 points
-
how do you explain the DUST on the bends then . ?. track looked great and racing was good. just like a normal speedway meeting . enjoyed it apart from the result tho .. UTM2 points

I'm at Poole every week, working doesn't allow traveling the country every away meeting2 points

Sorry Workington speedway, got as far as ASDA driving down, wipers on constant to clear the drizzle, decided against it and went home. Memories of watching several meetings at Derwent Park in poor conditions, races essentially decided coming out of the first/second bend and then a follow-my-leader procession with riders well separated and more occupied with pulling tear-offs than racing. Track may well have been rideable but not much enjoyment or entertainment for riders or fans alike in those conditions.2 points

That was Gutsy ride by Lawson to win the match for Poole. At least he could trust Rory to give him a fair race.2 points

We might just surprise a few, it's practically just about who gets out the gate first. Claus scored 11+2 there last season. Maybe Tate and Antti can have a session round our kids track to practice for it It was an awful spectacle last night it is absoultely pointless that they've widened it because the inside line off the 3/4 bend works so well, I can get Plymouth fans being defensive over it because it's their home, but it does the sport no favours. I can now see Cookie's and Lawson's comments about the place in the pre-season events were justified As harsh as that sounds it's the truth and 99% on this forum would agree. Anyone comparing this to Edinburgh is wrong imo, Edinburgh is a good test of a riders ability. Plymouth is just like US indoor track.2 points

Think your getting mixed up.Think they are talking about Darcy Ward from years ago.In reference to Tate.2 points

Presumably cos when you are riding on a strip of concrete if you gate you win cos nobody can pass you and if you don't gate you don't win cos you can't pass anybody. Before they all come out and say what about Borke that was one race and he had the guts to try2 points

Just caught-up with this meeting on BSN and first of all, congratulations to Plymouth on a deserved win and the aggregate bonus point. However, that was a horrific advert for the sport. It reminded me of that car ride at theme parks where the vehicles are one behind the other on the one track. Plymouth fans won’t mind, of course, but I’m disappointed BSN are covering a second meeting there this month.2 points

Certainly not the best meeting I've seen at The Coliseum but not the worst either. The track is getting there and will take time but hats off to Mark Phillips and his crew for attempting and completing the project they undertook and the weather issues they faced with it. I spoke to him this evening and told him that too. Oxford had a couple of passengers tonight at 2&6 but still kept it close. JJ started well but faded, Heeps started poorly but improved. Scott and Sam were as solid as expected. Plymouth were solid throughout and Kyle Newman was superb all night. Dan was good too but that is his standard these days. Special mention to Jacob who quietly racked up a decent paid 7 as well which helped Plymouth's reserves make the difference overall. Those two at 6&7 must be good as in two home matches Gazza hasn't swapped them over once yet and those who have supported Garry May teams in the past know how rare that is for him!2 points

The late Lee Richardson stands out for me, from memory he found points very difficult to come by when he first started out, then seemed to overcome that and establish himself only to be hindered by health issues. As we all know then went on to become world class, especially riding for GB in the world cup2 points

Only after Edinburgh agreed to it first ,you missed this important part out. If Edinburgh insisted it started on the scheduled start time it would have.2 points

BSN’s decision to return to Plymouth next week is disappointing. Not only because the quality of racing is atrocious, but where’s the variety? There’s six live meetings between the 1st and 16th of May; five of which are at either Oxford or Plymouth.1 point
-
Correct decision for me. Thomsen didn't touch Pawlicki, Pawlicki saw him coming through and laid the bike down as he was going to be on the wrong end of a 5-1 after a good gate.1 point

As a fan (of no team in particular now), I'd much rather see a track that was raceable, rather than rideable. Down to personal choice, obviously.1 point

Lublin just too good. Wouldn't be surprised if they go unbeaten this season.1 point

I have to agree Lee would often fall multiple times in a race when he first started at Reading. until he was taken under the guiding wing of John Davis who I believe single handed turned this raw talent into the World star he became.1 point

Shouldn’t think it would too much, parade is fairly localised to the town centre so don’t come through the town, take the bypass over the Orwell bridge round to the Foxhall road and I’d think will be fine.1 point

Polish Championship as in individual? If you want to sum up our season in one situation then that's it, the guy who scores 18 one week is unavailable the next with only 4.6 to get a guest in1 point

Steve Johnston... When he first arrived at Long Eaton from second halving at Sheffield I used to have to watch his races through my fingers, seemed to be out of control for most of his races!1 point

Quite agree, all you want is consistency from referees so we all know where we stand, happens in football all the time.1 point

The US have small tracks that give great entertainment... Mildenhall in particular over here stands out as a small track that delivers good racing... And to think, some Plymouth fans take the pee out of Poole's track...1 point

If three riders were at the tapes at 7:30pm Harris would've been disqualified. It was agreed to delay the meeting for fifteen minutes, so the problem never arose of him delaying the start of the race.1 point

Looks like Plymouth have built a mini Leicester with their track... once the track has bedded in (in around 15 years) there'll be some great racing1 point

Does the start Marshall not make sure they’re all in line at Plymouth. Bowtell about a meter away from the tapes there giving himself a longer run into the corner. Also pretty crap meeting so far.1 point

I've never been convinced about the Rising Star concept as it currently operates. For a rider to be "accepted" as a member of such a scheme, they should first attain some benchmarks - for example minimum number of completed rides at CL level, minimum number of points scored, and minimum average established at that level. Shouldn't be allowed to be anywhere near a PL team place without having these basic qualifications. Having set this bar, a PL club that decides to employ such a rider within its team, should be granted attractive concessions as an incentive. However, such concessions should have conditions attached, one of which is to guarantee the rider a minimum number of matches before being replaced. This will of course have the effect of restricting the supply of "Rising Stars" - so be it. Clubs which don't employ such a rider would just build a team without one. Hopefully that would prevent riders such as Joe, Boughen and Hagon from having their careers derailed.1 point

Young Zischke really did impress on his first visit to Ashfield . The last young Australian I can remember having that immediate wow factor on his first laps of the Ashfield track was Darcy Ward1 point

I always used to pronounce this Land-shut, but listening to Celina Liebmann recently she pronounced it Lands-hut. Now every time I hear it pronounced Land-shut it's really annoying me... I was better off in ignorance.1 point
