  1. Unlucky Aces, started decent and thought we were in for a long night but we turned it round after heat 8 and kept the foot down to get the job done. Tough conditions for both riders early on and not as big crowd as I expect but weather might had played a part. I want to mention this though… my Polish mother in law came over and she has a close friend who was diagnosed with cancer recently, and she has an operation next month. Her favourite rider is Bewley so today after the meeting we waitied to see if he would give us a minute of his time. He was very polite and listened to the story of her friend, he put his bags down and wrote a message out directed to her, wishing her all the best and signing it. For me, it’s something he didn’t have to do especially after that meeting and not the best performance but he was still willing to be a kind human to help another out and make her day. I wished him all the best for the weekend and off he went, sometimes you can get caught up in the racing but these guys are just humans like us and whether Ipswich won or lost tonight I would remember that gesture of kindness over speedway. Good luck Saturday Dan B.

  2. I hate that we are going into one of the major meetings in our season with 3 guests, one is necessary because of an injury to Max Perry but to have two of our riders missing because of international duty is crazy. I want to see my 7 riders no offence to the guests but you never know what you are going to get. If we lose a meeting and it is our 7 riders then we all accept that but 4 riders and three guests is too much of a gamble.

  4. Does it make any difference!!!!! Let's not turn this into 10page debate about nothing ffs.

  5. Tedious, but I suspect it will rumble on until we can fight it out on the track.

  6. I don’t care if a rider has a bad night and doesn’t score or gets 1or 2 points as long as he gives it his best and that didn’t happen with Kurtz last night, in his first 2 rides he was shutting off down the straights, it wasn’t till his last ride he actually looked like the rider he can be, in my book that’s unacceptable, we paid over £120 with petrol to watch 14 riders give their best and Kurtz and to a point sayfutinow didn’t give it, zischie was had a poor night but at least you could see he was trying and pretty much riding to his ability,I feel sorry for any BV fans that made the trip last night, you were short changed, also considering the size of the crowd and it was big the atmosphere felt flat

  7. I do think there are solutions but nobody brave enough to implement them

  8. Some of the riders with certain attitudes are a cancer in our sport and like all cancers they need removing. To have riders minds (and often bodies) elsewhere is not what the fans pay to watch. There's no buy in from many of the riders and if they don't buy in why should the fans? Come and support your team... but your Captain is really only interested in another competition, your number 1 earns more money on a Sunday in another country so won't be riding on the Saturday night... and there's far too many examples to continue to list on here, we all know what goes on. I DO NOT blame the riders, they have to do what is right for themselves as self employed participants but in effect they are competing businesses! But are there any other team sports that operate with self employed participants? Like I said in an earlier post, riders should be salaried employees it's the only way to get buy in. I know it will never happen and for that reason team Speedway will probably die a lingering death. The days of understanding that your rider had bigger things on his mind are now unfortunately a luxury of the past and has probably, in part, led to the dwindling crowds we see today. It's just not acceptable in todays age of league only Speedway.

  9. Bomber! Going for a world championship next weekend, hit the deck tonight, has had a poor night but still fronts up in front of the camera with a very honest assessment... meanwhile we're still waiting to hear from the Belle Vue captain after last night 🤔

  10. All these rain offs and you run an individual on one of the free nights you might need to use

  11. There you go. A 5-1 to Glasgow in heat 15 and only a ten point defeat. Easy to make up.

  12. Between the depleted Glasgow line-up and this track, it just makes a mockery of the sport. Abandon the meeting and replay it on another date. I couldn’t make it due to work, but this even renders my BSN subscription a waste of money.

  15. “These fixtures are only qualifiers we’ll be there when it really matters” ”Let’s wait until September” Well Belle Vue stank in the “qualifiers”, and then they stank in the play offs too. Who’d have thunk it! Where is Acebelle and Ouch by the way? They seemed to have disappeared..

  16. Also begs the question, if everyone knew this would happen, why was this the first set of play off's to be staged with two riders going for podium places in the GP 2 days later, with a poor forecast. Decision was announced 3 days after the last GP round so it wasn't a surprise that 2 of the Belle Vue team would be up for some serious silver wear 2 days later

  17. After 26 years of failure, Kurtz has been instrumental in winning the Aces TWO titles and played a huge part in getting them to play offs year on year... He obviously can be bothered then you could summise...

  19. my pennies worth first of all massive congrats to Ipswich, won easily and deservedly so, wont blame the track as it was the same for both teams emil 5 points, bewley 4 points yet its all Brady this, Brady that, wasnt good enough from any of the riders that have more important meetings coming up, sadly british speedway is what it is, the lowest standard league in the world, i dont blame any 3 for being to cautious, but also emil wasnt gating, brady wasnt gating, dan wasnt gating, and if you wasnt gating you wasnt doing anything. we have been bad all year at ipswich with kurtz and dan being poor then so not sure why the shock now tbh. again well done ipswich, belle vue need wholesome changes next year which i think we will get

  20. Quite a bit of quite frankly ridiculous criticism of Kurtz & Bewley, the track was treacherous and if you didn't gate it was game over. Don't blame any rider for not taking risks let alone those two. Well done Ipswich, boooo to the weather.

  23. I'm intrigued to know what people think they should be paying to watch professional sportsmen, including some of the best in the world ? As well as watching speedway, I am a regular at stock car racing and football. My football team are in League 1 (3rd tier), and the match day ticket price is £30. Stock car racing, depending on the formulas racing as there are different levels, varies generally from £20-25. When it is a bigger meeting, such as the British Championship or the European the the prices is closer to £30, and this weekend is the World Championship with advance tickets at £42 and on the day price of £48. In comparison to this, I don't think that £25 is too high a price for top league speedway, and would expect an increase for the play off semis and final.

  25. Long gone are those days... Whisper it, but watching Brady and Dan howling around the boards can actually now be "average" to watch given they do it so often.. I stopped going to Kirky Lane when watching Jason Crump howling into the bends quicker than anyone else by miles, also became "average" to watch, as he did it so often... When I watch (UK) speedway it has very little riding (pardon the pun), on it given the Mickey Mouse rules and lack of credibility, therefore it is only the racing that gets me to attend... And I attend the play offs as usually it feels like an "event" you are attending with decent crowds... Monday night was a dreadful spectacle in front of a half empty grandstand, and tonight's offering on track even worse... Anyone watching at home who are non speedway fans, but casually watching due to its Semi Final status would have done well to get to Heat 10 tonight, let alone Heat 15.. Sad to see the sport in its current state, but not sure those running it have the capability to turn it around, given they are responsible for the current state in the first place..

  26. You haven't rode in the top flight since, so hardly surprising 🤣

  27. And right there is why I will always want zmarzlik over Kurtz to be world champion, zmarzlik would never of put a ride in like that, he would of busted a gut even for a single point, Kurtz didnt try

  28. As a Poole fan and who went to the meeting. I sat in the big stand and didn't hearing anything, but that didn't mean this didn't happen, if it did then yes it needs to be dealt with by the club, as people shouting that are not welcome in our sport, this isn't football. We have young family's attending and they don't need be exposed to this. But this needs to be dealt with behind closed doors and not aired in public now after a number of press releases from Glasgow, it only adds to the fire of some and it will cause incitement. Speedway is struggling as it is and does not need further bad press in my opinion! Need to draw a line under this now and the club deal with any supporters caught will be thrown out the stadium going forward. Lets make one thing clear this isn't the Poole club I have supported for 35 years! we welcome all traveling fans to Wimborne Road!

  29. and as if by magic one of the people who is a massive part of the problem (head in sand) comes along with a laughing reaction those who run sponsor and are involved just cant see the damage thats being done to still be running semi finals of all three competitions in mid september is gross negligence

  30. Could and probably should have been a whole lot worse than 14 points to make up. I reckon it is now borderline doable ,well done to Edinburgh rode the conditions better and probably deserved more off a lead.

  31. Every other meeting between our two sides this season has been better. Our team has been awful tonight. But we shouldn't have agreed to this in the first place. We've royally shot ourselves in the foot.

  34. Yes agreed, I meant more backing the project rather than running it per se. I wouldn't try and open Northampton whilst Brandon is still up in the air A large proportion of expected fans would surely come from Coventry way?

  35. Thanks for the insight. I still don't think it's a valid comparison to speedway though regarding admission cost. The stock car meetings at Foxhall always seem packed, they charge for parking as well plus they get the catering/bar income. Profits for these meetings I think will be way in excess of what speedway could make. Do you know if the admission cost for meetings with lower formulas is significantly lower? For speedway I'd estimate outgoings for each meeting to be around 25-26k, not adding in any profit margin. They have to recoup this of course but I'd expect stock car outgoings to be lower. Overall, I think the entry price for speedway is ok in the Premiership. Blimey, I paid £19 for a fish and chips meal at a pub last week plus £7 for a glass of wine - I'd have rather been at the speedway!

  36. Very bitter. Thompson ha# been excellent at reserve all season. One ride/point (0.04) separating Ellis and Thompson in the September green sheets, and it upset the balance of the Ipswich team. Having riders who can adapt to conditions is important. Throttle-jockeys can't win everything 😉

  38. All fair point but the 5,500 at Belle Vue is another sign of how far we have fallen granted at a push you could maybe get 20-25k at a British GP if such a venue existed it just doesn't seem that long ago when crowds of high 40's were at Bradford and Cardiff early days.

  39. They'll all be there next week... And at the start of next season... The sport now has die hards immune to the operating model, and immune to any "Barry White" served up on poorly prepared tracks.. Augmented by a few hundred at every track that attend play offs or BH's... If I was a rider last night, my thoughts would be about getting away in one piece, particularly if I had major meetings coming up in Poland and Denmark.. Not sure I would be worried about the views of someone who felt they had the right to expect me to take what I maybe felt were undue risks on a poor surface, given its my career that could be impacted by any crash.. It would be interesting to hear from Sheffield fans who attended the called off meeting the other week, when some Ipswich riders as well as some Sheffield riders wouldn't ride, as to how much worse their track was compared to last nights... Lads earning £500k (plus, and then some) in Poland need to sometimes ensure they look after No1.. Bottom line is, provide a race track that gives four lads in every race confidence they can use all the circuit, and ride closely together, and this thread wouldn't be discussing whether riders tried or not... And a decent race track is the MINIMUM you should expect as a fan, as everything else comes from that...

  40. The West Midlands can support more than one team. However dense urbanisation means a lack of suitable sites. Berwick and King's Lynn have both survived for over 50 years. The problem for Northampton is not population based, it is that there is no history of speedway in Northampton [just 1929-30 in town, and 54/5 & 66/7 @ Brafield - all at a fairly rudimentary level]

  41. And so the biggest issue British Speedway is summed up, the league matches do not matter to the fans and sometimes not to the riders, the play offs do matter to the clubs who see it as possibly a break even pay day, but for whatever reason not all the riders are equally invested and some fans are smart to that, so if league matches don’t draw and the play offs by design or accident don’t draw, what is the point? I don’t have the answer, I think we will lose more clubs as the sport in the country will become a very small league setup with maybe only seven or eight home fixtures a season plus a koc match or two, or become similar to what Isle of Wight do or what grass track does, a few meetings a season. (That won’t be viable though if speedway is the only sport in said stadium)
