  1. Even for 2026, Phil has been a great advocate for British Speedway Premiership and has done lots of work behind the scenes which most people simply do not see. Always knowing that his role of Chief executive wasn’t to continue this year due to lack of money He was instrumental in keeping Ipswich going including being part of a consortium that made an offer to keep it going if Mayfield deal had fallen through. Has also had a a lot to do with the opening of Northampton giving guidance of what was required to get Speedway running along with being involved in the negotiations with stadium owners and management . There has been some failures previously maybe the loss of TV deal being the greatest but he did explore various options but none could be got over the line for various reasons. It has not been helped by some promotions not backing him fully. He wanted to modernise the product to try to get in new fans and sponsors some of which cost money like for tv meetings having a set presentation team and DJ, Lights and fire cannons on centre field but certain promotions wouldn’t back this and could even be objective like refusing to move advertising A boards for tv meetings and not even keeping the league sponsorship ones clean. Phil was also key to a number of top names returning to the UK like Woofy , Janowski and Lindgren along with brokering deals for Lambert and Dudek to ride for clubs to then back down on the deals

  4. Unfortunately for UK speedway we are exposed to two types of promoter. 1. The professional. 2. The hobbyist. And let’s be clear, some regard themselves as professionals because they run businesses elsewhere but are in realty stuck in the mud hobbyists. What makes the matter worse is that there are more hobbyists promoters than professionals and thus they get to say what goes and what doesn’t. I live in (faint) hope that the time will come when the professionals get together and gain sufficient momentum/influence & money to go it alone. Because make no mistake the hobbyist are not (as they would like us to believe) keeping the sport going on a thriving basis, they are holding it to ransom and actively leading it to an eventual demise.

  5. "I am very unhappy today with the fella who is doing my double glazing installation. I asked him a few weeks ago if he could book today in his diary, but, instead, he told me that he had another job already booked elsewhere, and it was a bigger job, thus will earn him several times more than mine will, and that all the equipment needed has been bought, and the people having the work done have already paid a considerable down payment".... "He also added that the other job will last six months, with several other dates already agreed through to completion. So. He basically has told me what dates he can do if I want to use his services during that timeline"..... "I am very disappointed with his attitude"....

  6. Bewley different class tonight... but then he is, he's not going to have much competition in the British League this season.

  7. Poole are doing a collection for Tobi at Wednesdays meeting with Scunny.

  8. Let's be honest no Poole fan will blame Lawson which i except but don't agree with but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing for sure putting Toby in hospital won the match for Poole, but the main thing is tobys wellbeing both physically and mentally of that I'm sure we can all agree.

  9. He made the clubs adhere to a schedule to speed meetings up with set grading breaks. Introduced the centre green clocks. Had the sponsors banners made up in the pits so every club looked the same. Brokered deals with riders to ride in the premiership. For the grand final he had a magnificent looking stage not made of three pallets. Pyrotechnics and flames. Spoke to save Coventry stadium and offered to buy Ipswich with his own money. Introduced the media day. but apart from that not much. now the sport is imploding and going backwards under the current regime

  10. It demonstrates again what untapped potential there is when so many people don't know what speedway is

  12. We all know exactly who that is 🙄 Hint: The same promotion who couldn’t even be @rsed to have a press and practice session this year, instead will do the “team photo” at the first meeting. Unfortunately some promotions are a cancer to the sport in this country. They’re old, stuck in their ways, have no fresh ideas, and want to just get by every year by doing the absolute bare minimum. Until they’ve all retired or buggered off, nothing will change and neither will they let it. The ideas you’ve suggested Phil wanted to implement sound exactly like the ideas Mayfield have for the sport not just at Ipswich, but for British Speedway in general. But they’ll also find out soon enough that any ideas they have will fall on deaf ears and they’ll get absolutely nowhere with them. Would anyone be at all surprised if Mayfield went exactly the same way as Chris Louis in 12 months time? I wouldn’t.

  13. I’m sure this has been discussed many times before by more intelligent and better informed people than me, but with Tobias’s injury’s and a clip from Poland doing the rounds I’ve been wondering what can be done to stop safety fencing lifting? More and more often a rider or riders have an incident where the bike hits the fencing first and lifts it leaving the rider to go underneath and impacting with whatever is behind. My opinion is that attaching them to the concrete below the shale might make a difference. Possibly eyelets in the concrete to attach to? let’s be honest we all like a little off but people being hurt or worse is not what anyone wants to see.

  14. Agent Brennan, job done! He can guest against us anytime 👍🏻 😁

  15. Nobody is to blame, just a racing incident. Always liked Tobi, he was liked by everyone at Poole, his injuries are horrific and we all hope his recovery goes well.

  18. He doesnt blame him because Lewy is a liar. If you look at the footage Tobi moved out to stop Lawson's run round the outside.

  21. I saw that he didn’t ride in Poland recently too but Belle Vue on their website stated he isn’t riding due to being banned. Either way it is what it is I guess, and Brennan ironically now trying to knock out Leicester who he guested for last year and won the cup with, after riding for Ipswich and getting kocked out, confused? You will be 😂

  22. Not just stoney but Greg Blair too have that type of banter that you hear in vans on way to meeting and not that forced corporate polished speak you get on TNT, sky etc

  23. With respect to the youngsters that night, it’s night and day compared to what he’ll meet on Thursdays. Worlds apart. Rushen was beaten that night by Trigger, Loftus, and twice by Mulford who he didn’t look close to competing with. Let’s not forget Mulford has a Championship average over two points LESS than Ipswich #7 and rising star, Edwards, let alone a Swedish U21 Champion. That’s the scale of what he’ll be up against. I’m not saying he won’t get in amongst them as he’s clearly a talented boy, but he shouldn’t be expected to beat either at this moment but as I say, that doesn’t mean he won’t. He’ll have better opportunities on the horizon against weaker reserve pairings but he’ll be up against IMO the strongest reserve pairing in the league currently. Having said that, he’d do well to stay completely clear of Bangs while he’s getting to grips with Foxhall! Could be a very interesting spectacle watching his early heats on Thursday which is the main reason I’m taking the trip across to give him a look.

  24. Don't worry Mike, Geoff will soon pipe down when their Danes are missing because they have to ride in Denmark or CC cba.

  25. Imagine taking a newcomer to the meeting today . "Wheres that Aussie bloke that nearly won the World Championship last year?" "Oh, Brady Kurtz, naah he's not riding today, he's banned" "Thats a shame, was looking forward to seeing him! Why's he banned, what did he do?" "Errrr... he was ill last week"

  26. Did ok in the GP series but no impact in the Premier League but thats hardly surprising given the current set up

  27. Think Dan Thompson should be riding at 3 or 4 rather than 2. Solid if uninspiring performance from the Lions.

  30. On your side for a change marra 😜 will think Toby's injuries will take some getting over, and he had a bad crash in the last meeting last season

  31. Yes that’s the one, he completed the meeting, he had another 4 rides after that scoring 1 2 0 0. =3

  32. Lawsons Danish side are a rider down now as Lawson stuffed him into the fence at Poole so he maybe called on more often

  33. Is it me or has this been the most stuttering start to a season ever? The PCMT & Klindt's testimonial, then nothing except for a few Redcar/Scunny encounters, Ben Fund & Belle Vue, then nothing... Good Friday! 2 meetings on! One at Poole and one at Edinburgh... Scunny not even bothering (maybe this was the "wow" news Godfrey has been referring to) What a state of affairs!

  34. This is obviously a very English discussion. Good Friday isn't a public holiday in Scotland!

  36. This is speedway so who knows 😂 I think there will be a emergency zoom meeting called for tomorrow to discuss the right decision for the sport while completely ignoring the actual rules

  37. Apparently not - will have to pay via Lions TV to watch. BSN have just posted on Facebook saying meeting scheduled will now be replaced by Leicester v Belle Vue on 23/07.

  38. This just reads like the clubs ignored the broadcast partners agreement again. GoSpeed got some sh!t on here but the broadcast operating manual they produced and every club agreed to was spot on and very professional. Clubs still didn't trim the centre green, clean the air barriers and screwed up Broadcasters Brand Banners leaving them covered in sh!t for the rest of the season. The clubs wanted their share of the fees but wouldn't adhere to the agreement and just left TR to battle it out. If it wasn't for the need to fill summer live sport airtime Speedway would have been discarded years ago

  39. I've got to say what a massive improvement it is now the inter-race interviews and pit coverage is being shown on the big screen and piped through the pa system... credit where it's due 👍🏻

  40. Fantastic insight in the pits, could do with him on BSN! Stream has been great, much better than constant repeats we got on TNT

  41. I think if I was a newcomer and I was told he was banned because he was ill I would be more bemused that another Prem team let their number one guest instead. Imagine a footballer who felt ill and missed one match was then banned for the next 7 days and an opposition team loaned them their best player to cover.

  44. Another who could see what the sport (in the UK), could be, if only it could become credible and authentic within a team sport concept... But was never going to change things when so many (who financially sustain the sport), are quite content with what they have.. He definitely helped with Coventry and their ongoing battle to get back to Brandon...

  45. Have to say the Scorpions on paper look like one of the weakest teams in the Championship this year imo. Pressure on Pickering to max out every match, with limited support. While the Pirates have already had a couple of meets to blow Away the winter cobwebs. Cairnes seems to have come on since last season, and Kyle looks like becoming a real asset. It's Poole for both legs for me.

  47. The co-promoter of Northampton Foxes, Paul Hunsdon, will be the guest of the NSSC at the Brandon Club on Tuesday 28th April. Everyone is welcome at these events with entry only £4 with all proceeds going to help the GB Young Lions. Come along, listen to Paul and have the opportunity to ask questions. The meeting starts at 8pm. The venue; Brandon Club, Main Street, Brandon, Coventry, CV8 3HW

  48. Yes indeed in general - but this is Kings Lynn and you have to always start optimistically

  49. Can't remember, but I'd agree that any team who races every home meeting on one particular track will naturally have a home advantage, stands to reason. You could argue that teams who stick with riders for multiple seasons might build up more of it but everyone has at least some, and as you say the quality of the line up has much more to do with it.

  50. A trick is missed every year. The first two weekends of the season should be a 4TT with Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berwick and Workington. Get big crowds in and some semi competitive racing before the real business starts. East Coast one weekend, Edinburgh Friday & Berwick Saturday then Glasgow and Worky the other.
