How has he? He’s simply highlighted something he doesn’t agree with which he’s entitled to do. Who made you judge and jury and decides who can post where and when? Deary me 🙄4 points

Great result, Every Rider getting at least a paid win this time. Take a bow Tom Brennan, From Rising Star to No.1 who beat GP Rider Max Fricke 2-1 in a Head-to-Head battle around the AFA is some achievement. Never rated King's Lynn before a wheel was turned and if Jan Kvech continues his downward spiral at King's Lynn then the Stars may even finish behind Northampton once the League gets underway because the Stars tail end is simply out of it's depth at this level. Pressure on young Cooper Rushen is ridiculous and it could hinder his progress and knock his confidence imo.3 points

Should never be allowed for home teams! Huge bugbear of mine that.3 points

I had to laugh listening to that Kings Lynn podcast that Bagpuss linked up where Lyon said they “really pushed for TWO rising stars this year”. Yeah I bet they did!! It wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact the team building average had been reduced and they’d signed the statistically top rider in the league saddled with a near 10 point average, meaning having to go weak at reserve with two inexperienced riders would it? Of course not. They were thinking in the best interests of the sport long term! 🙄 We all know self interest rules the roost and it’s plainly evident again here. They finally had the top end strength they’d craved for years, and also wanted to negate any disadvantage they’d have from that at reserve by trying to force everyone else to go with two out of their depth kids as well. They may have failed with Their requests this time, but we all know the influence certain people have and their threats to close their clubs if certain demands aren’t met have been successful in the past. People wonder why this Sport in this country is in the mess that it is when it’s run by the very people who will ALL try and pull these stunts to gain an advantage for their own clubs. It will continue to happen until someone comes in to set the rules and regulations, and runs the Sport in this Country who doesn’t have ANY association with one particular club.3 points

This situation highlights the differences on either side of the fence. There's absolutely no way the Oxford management can keep fans fully up-to-date in a Sky News-esque ticker tape style barrage of information. Situations change constantly. So constantly that confusion would be the main outcome, with folks struggling to keep up. What are they expected to reveal? 'We have meetings planned'? A bit bland and unlikely to appease the news-hungry punter. They also most likely won't be allowed to reveal significant details of those meetings. The only thing that matters is whether the club has a future. It's a simple yes or no. On this occasion, happily, it's a yes. On the other side of the coin, fans can feel they're left in the dark, whilst craving updates aplenty. 'We are the lifeblood of the club. We deserve to know'. Well, yes, you do. But you only need to know the end result. The rest, if you're not a company official is, quite frankly, none of your business. It has to be kept in-house. The statement from the management is acceptable in my view. Good luck to Oxford.3 points

One of the things that has possibly held Tom back a bit (in the nicest possible way) was having Emil and Jason there! Saying that he will have learned a lot so his chance to be a no 1 is here! Wishing him the best of luck as I really think he’s a great rider in the making! He pops out and wins heat one against Fricke which is very impressive! great result for the witches - concerns for the Stars as ever early in the season!2 points

Agreed, imagine if you'd have said 30 years ago that at 48 this young whippersnapper will still be gunning down the Stars in the next century you'd have been carted away by men in white coats!2 points

Looks like Tom is starting to show his potential ,he was putting himself about in Poland at the week-end too.Hope he can stay injury free it’s along season.2 points

I’m not a “Witches” fan. Why would I be worried? I couldn’t really care less if Ipswich win lose or draw! My team closed many moons ago.2 points

Generally not been that impressed by Sam at Northside. Hope Vinnie back sooner rather than later , a solid reserve is so important.2 points

There’s home advantage, and then there’s this! Should this be allowed on the actual day of a meeting? Home riders having all afternoon to practice and fine tune their setup to suit the track conditions on the day? Seems a bit off to me.2 points

As he is still the leaseholder (unless anyone knows any different) then he must be involved.Oxford Speedway Ltd is in Courtney’s name though.2 points

Why would the speedway need to find the 2 million debt, that’s an absurd thing to say! It’s quite simple really, the speedway now need to do their own lease agreement with the stadium owners rather than through a third party which included the dogs. As far as I know this new arrangement is agreed and it’s all systems go for the rest of the season.2 points

Not really true - the way they have to be ridden today though is different. I remember Chris Louis saying he'd not like to ride todays bikes as they only really suit slick or consistent tracks, full throttle all the way, as you'd ride in Poland but in years gone by more throttle control won you races and you could use grippy/slick parts of the track to your advantage more. Seats are also much higher these days. The issue with any fence is that you go from 60mph to zero in a short space of time so injuries will happen no matter what but we do see more use of the wide outside lines than ever before (where only the very brave/skilled would tread), which could be the feeling of safety brought about by air fences.2 points

I feel that's a little bit harsh on Castagna, who at least managed to average over 4 last season. But totally agree about the reserve berths, I wouldn't have used both "rising stars", especially as inexperienced as they are.2 points

Some of us are giving the our 2 local lads a chance to get going. I do agree about Paco. While i agree that Scoot and Coops is risky at reserve. But not anymore than Paco in the 1-5. At least Lynn are trying the you young guns2 points

Awful team building by the Stars to throw 2 youngsters in at 6 and 7 potentially zapping their confidence1 point

100% agree. Cooper being a No.6 at PREM level doesn't benefit him as a Rider at all imo when everyone else has started their PREM experience as a No.7 when being part of the Rising Star Scheme, Riders like Brennan, Flint, Rowe, D. Thompson etc. Cooper Rushen has been thrown to the Wolves imo.1 point

The Championship will do them good, and they will learn a lot there. With Lynn giving them both a place in the Prem this season, hopefully they stay loyal in the future.1 point

That's not quite true, is it? Before the close of play yesterday (by the time you posted the above), an item had been added to the Oxford Speedway website, previewing the Plymouth meeting and updating the situation. Obviously, what Oxford were not going to do was promise a meeting next Wednesday until they were in a position where they could, especially after this Wednesday's postponement. The Oxford fans are happy, if you're not, that's up to you. Personally, I'm overjoyed. At points over the last week or so, I wondered if this was the end. You can't please all the people all the time and this is a classic case. You'd think everyone would be happy that a speedway track is continuing, but...1 point

The post above has it nailed. If there is no real reward for winning, and nothing really missed by losing, there is no incentive to invest more time and energy, so most don’t. This is meant to be (and is) the pinnacle of the sport in the U.K., but it looks more like Sunday league football in a dead-end division. The idea of paying BSN to stream for free on YouTube sounds nice, but I see two issues. One, would they have the capacity to stream more? Two, it would present a risk to their business model, and given they are probably the most sustainable entity in British Speedway right now, why would they want to take the risk? I don’t see the incentive for them. The Premiership clubs barely bothered to support a media day, so why volunteer to compromise a working model? I think the promoters need to show a lot more before you do that.1 point

Sadly, the operating model has been allowed to evolve into what it currently is... Meaning neither league runs with any real prestige or financial rewards... Win your league? Yay!... Finish bottom of your league? Oh well, there's always next year... Many meetings are ran with almost zero jeopardy or consequence, which is "perfect" for those promoters who don't want any pressure... "Having to win" to keep a crowd level, costs money, time and brings with it some anxiety... The result of the meeting being, for a good number of promoters, "perfection" if it is a 46-44 win.... And, given that lack of prestige, and financial gain available, I 100% get their outlook... Sadly, it appears only us fans that want to see the sport grow, however, to get that growth means a completely new operating model, but, to bring in a "proper" operating model costs money.... A proper vicious circle... You cannot have jeopardy, consequence, credibility, integrity and prestige in victory, without having some serious financial rewards for success, which in turn delivers big publicity... However. You will never get those serious financial rewards, and big publicity, and prestige for victory, by running meetings without jeopardy, consequence, credibility, and integrity... A real race to the bottom currently...1 point

Congratulations to Mark and the whole team at Plymouth who obtained a notable achievement on Saturday by having a record attendance for over 10 years in the defeat against the Pirates. Fantastic for a sport that needs positive news stories to see a club going in the right direction and the swell of momentum behind the club within Plymouth. It's fantastic to see and long may it continue.1 point
