  4. I donโ€™t dispute that and it is a fine balance between pushing on with the next generation or supporting the decline with no one interested in the talent that may be another Bewley. Like everything today supporters have no patience and want instant heat leader status riders and seemingly refuse to back todayโ€™s newbies. It didnโ€™t happen in years gone by because you had second halves to meetings and the 6 and 7 team riders got to compete in real races not contrived protectionist heats and supporters appreciated this pipeline of talent. The sport is in the situation it finds itself in because of fickle supporters who dismiss these youngsters as wobblers which is an insult added to which you have promoters who cannot or will not back the trainees and then you have failing of a sport governing body who have consistently not bothered to adapt to the changing situation that the sport finds itself in with no idea of how to create a pipeline of future talent. Its rules inhibit the progression of young riders and why they ostracise Nora teams and riders is the self fulfilling prophecy. The governing body as it stands is not fit for purpose. So much needs to change across the spectrum from club owners to governing body to supporters but alas in todayโ€™s climate nothing will happen apart from the continual decline in the UK of this once great sport

  5. It'd be interesting to compare that to a Richard Lawson Vlog ๐Ÿ˜‚

  6. At some point they are going to have to give team places to riders who are not ready, you can kick kicking the ball down the road but eventually it will happen, riders like Nicholls etc cannot go on forever. The sport must go back to be more amateur, itโ€™s got to get even worse before it can get better.

  7. Still not too late for next season, though. One big league of 15-16 teams, 13 heat matches with a six-heat junior second half. Guests only for number ones, R/R or juniors to be used for other missing riders. Home and away just once, fours and pairs and a proper riders championship, each track having their own invitational event, and with maybe some touring Polish and Swedish sides tempted over for pre-season attractions... One can dream!

  8. Which is exactly why they should have gone one league this year without the "GP Stars"... they're just not replaceable when they get injured, where as if a Lawson or Bomber got injured it'd be far easier to tempt a Lahti/Bellago level rider over for cover. Still, they've made their bed and now they have to lie in it.

  10. What is a yawn fest is your constant eagerness to jump on here with your anti BV rhetoric Poole couldnt escape it by dropping to the Championship. A bad meeting here is the exception not the rule, ive seen yawn fests at your track where both teams have been competitive, i think the anti BV brigade headed by yourself and Chun have,nt got over the fact we actually got this stadium built, if other councils around the country actually backed their speedway clubs maybe the sport could actually have the stadia that people expect today. As for the skills they were certainly missing a Foxhall recently wernt they? Funny how the sport is massive in Poland with not a "technical track" in sight that term is used by those with constant gate and go tracks. Maybe Luke Littler should drop his standard to stop darts becoming a "yawn fest" ๐Ÿ˜‚

  11. 100% they do.. However, the FIM meetings are in the calendar well in advance so it shouldn't be beyond the capability of mankind to plan UK Speedway meetings around them... And if the riders don't qualify to the next stages then that would leave "blank" evenings to arrange a previously called off fixture, should they need to do so.. The sport in the UK is dying through far too many self inflicted cuts... Many of which could be avoided,. Having one of your young "starlets" unavailable due to your own planning is only going to make that meeting less attractive to pay to watch.. And UK Speedway can ill afford putting up any possible barriers to prevent people to attend..

  12. Yawn fest because one team so much better on their track If you want to see close racing try Ipswich v Northampton or Leicester v Northampton where the racing would be closer and require all round skills

  13. Imagine if you bought a luxury car for say 30k. Then they removed the electric windows, the air conditioning and stereo and still tried to flog it for 30k.

  15. Me too, since around 15 years ago when he got to the stage that standing around, or sitting down, plus the walking, for any length of time got too much.. He stopped and then I gradually did as I realised I often just went because he wanted to... It wasnt until a few years ago he mentioned he only kept attending for several years because he thought I wanted to!!!... As he said in his broad Cork accent... "It was usually a right load of crap!"....

  16. The Dan T Vlogs have been a real eye opener for me... The amount of equipment needed, and quite heavy duty machinery to fix things, must cost a small fortune... Someone has to pay the riders enough to spend such outlays, either through sponsorship or salary... And all to ultimately win.... ??????? It is truly the ultimate race to the bottom for Speedway teams... Who will win next?...

  21. I have been a massive speedway fan for more years than I care to remember and would always defend the sport to the hilt but even I am now starting to have serious doubts. I subscribe to BSN and watched last night's BV versus Northampton fixture. Ended up watching to heat 10 and then found something else to do as I was literally bored to tears. Yes, the opposition were poor and BV are so good on their own track but as far as entertainment goes I'd give it no more than two out of ten. I also watched the GP at the weekend and found myself running on through each race after a couple of laps and this is something I would definitely not have done a couple of years ago. Anyway, back to our leagues. When I check the BSN schedule I have to confess that I am usually disappointed when the next fixture is a Premiership one. I just find most of them pretty tedious, same teams, same riders and run of the mill affairs. The Championship however, is a different kettle of fish. More teams etc and I just find the whole league more refreshing. Give me Plymouth versus Berwick or Oxford versus Edinburgh any day of the week compared to Sheffield versus Leicester or Kings Lynn versus Northampton. In summing up I genuinely hope that the BSPL find a way to make one league work next year with a much more varied fixture list. Belle Vue riding at Glasgow, Ipswich riding at Plymouth etc really does whet the appetite. Much better promotion of the sport is required and costs must be kept under control. If this means no more GP riders etc then so be it.

  22. Oxford to try and run meetings on a Friday, last 2 of this month, after a results from a fans survey. But I wonder if Mr Godfrey will allow this ๐Ÿค” as in 2018 he did not allow Workington to do this

  23. "Make it a date, Friday at Eight"... Today it would be.. "Make it a date, Friday at, errr, no, sorry, not this Friday, nor the next one, we might be doing something the one after though, and definitely, well, most probably, the one after that"...

  25. Was Kurtz genuine in Heat 13? Four rides four comfy wins, no one near him then a stone last? Cook bust a gut to pass Lidsey Kurtz just sat there. I suppose it was a nothing race, he had done his job by then and it will keep the old average down.

  26. Luckily we got to see Kurtz pass everyone in heat 13 when he missed the gate though to make up for others only gating.

  27. Mitch Cluff came into KJP's pits straight afterwards and apologised and then waited after the meeting to apologise in person to Kevin in the ambulance. As KJP has personally stated he has no issue with it, he himself said its easy to understand how Mitch got caught in the moment of finishing a great night of scoring. Mistake made, apology given, riders no issue, subject closed.

  31. Currently reading Andrew Edwards book,MCN Days, Speedway Nights. In his book he remembers being in the Millenium Stadium for a British GP in 1995. The stadium did not open till 1999.

  33. Agree, we cant have the shambolic close season that we have just witnessed again, they need to be looking towards next season and beyond, this season has seen even committed fans walk away.

  35. I remember thinking the same when Bill Barker was running Lynn and trying to balance the books by wandering round at half time selling raffle tickets. I once said "give everyone who comes through the gate a questionnaire to fill in relating to what they like/don't like about the current speedway set up and give them a spare to give to someone who used to attend but no longer does). Nothing ever happened and Bill soldiered on with the raffle tickets but as Mike has said there's going to come a crunch soon when the over 40 year old double uppers retire and we are nearly out of people who will step in and take over underwriting the annual track losses.

  38. I don't want to go too hard into Chris Adams, he's probably doing the job on a voluntary/expenses only basis, but... as his record shows, he's clearly not Speedway manager material and I dare say that a decent motivational manager may have been able to turn some of Northampton's narrow defeats into narrow wins.

  40. Feel free to find it odd, I very rarely post anything on these forums, often just read them as you will know, the decline on this forum has caught up with the decline of the sport itself. As for your expectations, fair enough we'll agree to disagree, perhaps Mayfield were trying to stay loyal, if you're genuinely looking to 2027 and riders are watching, would many be keen if they are making multiple changes in their debut season? Sticking with Brennan who will drop his average this year to nicely fit in next year and not at no.1 etc all you're doing is suffering for a season ie a transitional year before competing again You may even win the league cup against my beloved lions

  44. Never understood the grief Batch, and riders like him, get... They make up the majority of double uppers who run at HL and SS levels.. And all pretty much do the same thing, and are of not too different ages... If they gate first, they can win in the second tier, and maybe, now and again, hold on in the top tier.. If they gate last, in tier one they stay there, and in tier two they may get third... Many of them certainly won't be busting a gut to make any risky passes at this stage of their careers.. And, given so few riders of their level want to ride over here, they are all desperately needed to fill two team places.. a) to ensure full teams, and b) let both teams share costs..

  47. I thought it was an decent meeting, I would certainly sooner watch a meeting from this track than Ipswich, Northampton, Sheffield, Oxford, Plymouth or Poole. It was not a dust a bowl, neither was it over watered, you saw clean passes after the 1st/2nd bend on both the inside and the outside throughout the meeting.

  48. It is the unusual moments I seem to remember A certain poster on this forum's son going after an opposing rider with a marshall's shovel at a Newport Mavericks meeting Will Beveridge attacking Emil Linqvist and the subsequent fracas Scott Smiths bike ending up on the rake of the passing tractor as a celebration wheelie went wrong Least able Karlsson brother having a dust up with the start marshall Frank Smart and Robin Aspergen racing each other ( tentatively) in the opposite track direction in just boots, underpants, helmet and gloves Just hope I remembered these incidents correctly It all seems somewhat sanitised these days
