They are in reality about 1 rider away from being a decent team that can win home matches and that's probably a top end rider who will score in heats 13 and 15. If Zagar could start scoring like NKI then maybe they wouldn't have to make changes. From my anlaysis etc Batch isn't their problem this year

Well what can I say 🤔 as predicted, but on a dusty track the water cart only came out in 2 of the 4 grading breaks, the last few heats were like watching through a dust storm, granted Lawson's pass in HT 15 was good, but the rest of the racing if you can call it that, was not exciting. But the pilots fans will be happy. On a brighter note was good to meet up with a few names on here 😃 and I'm now an honorary member of the NID corner 😄

Let’s be honest… nothing will change. This conversation happens every season and still the BSPA serve up this tiny little “Premiership” league. The fact they were originally willing to run this season with a five-team league should tell you all you need to know. Whether Sheffield run or not, the powers that be will continue to bury their heads in the sand until the inevitable “we can no longer financially run a league structure in the UK”. It’s very bleak.

Needs to be moderated properly to stop the same few people having multi aliases and posting up garbage on nearly every thread, gets a bit boring after a while😬

Never understood the grief Batch, and riders like him, get... They make up the majority of double uppers who run at HL and SS levels.. And all pretty much do the same thing, and are of not too different ages... If they gate first, they can win in the second tier, and maybe, now and again, hold on in the top tier.. If they gate last, in tier one they stay there, and in tier two they may get third... Many of them certainly won't be busting a gut to make any risky passes at this stage of their careers.. And, given so few riders of their level want to ride over here, they are all desperately needed to fill two team places.. a) to ensure full teams, and b) let both teams share costs..

As a loyal supporter for 60+ years, it's clear that British Speedway cannot continue to exist in its current form. In 2026 we've lost Birmingham and in recent years we’ve seen the loss of many iconic teams such as Wolverhampton, Coventry and Swindon. It seems that other teams are now under threat unless some radical changes are made. Along with many paying customers, I have a vision for how speedway has to develop if it is to survive. Decades of the sport's inefficiency has finally come to a head. British speedway needs to set its own agenda and stop kowtowing to regulations set in Poland. Speedway has bred a generation of riders who want to have their cake and eat it: they want to earn their bread and butter in the UK leagues and chase the Polish Zloty to put the jam on top. This faces the British authorities with the dilemma of having to dance to the Polish tune when trying to plan the home fixture list. This cannot go on. For survival, we need a single nationwide league of 15 teams wherein all its riders are contracted and committed exclusively to British racing between March and October. A 28-match league programme plus a further 12 matches in a split north-south KO cup competition will guarantee teams a regular weekly match programme, and a sensible rider payment policy will provide ample earnings potential for riders over a guaranteed 40-match season. But the last thing we want is for British speedway and its contracted riders to be isolated from European competition. So speedway authorities must open negotiations with its European counterparts for European competition on two levels: 1) An annual European League of Nations, with initially the four participating countries of Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark and Poland. 2) An annual European Champions’ League, featuring the top teams of all the four participating nations of Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark and Poland. A nationwide league of 15 teams in meaningful competition - with the addition of the possibility of genuine European glory - will revive the waning interest of fans, riders, media and potential investors. It is time for the Promoters to bite the bullet to avoid inevitable extinction of British speedway. So I've set up a petition demanding that the British Speedway Promoters Ltd take these matters on board with immediate effect. To be fair there were a fair number of overtakes but generally Poole on Worky, good ding-dong race with Rushen (on Cluff?), Lawson was definitely not on any blue line as he rounded Jeppsen in heat 15. But Workington were abysmal, riders kept making errors & falling, not clearing track etc, tactical substitution wasted. Over from the start. On the positive, did get meet up with Neila good to put a face to the name and the wind-ups.

Fact is Plymouth fans have the hardest grafter @ the helm in Mark Phillips so if they are able to help Mark in any way they are happy to do so. Up the Gladiators!

Hurry admits he faced an intense schedule at No.2 on his racing return. He said: “Last week was tough on Danny. It was his first meeting back, and it is quite demanding at times around Ipswich. Coming back from a rib injury is hard going. People don’t realise. Not only does he have that to deal with; all of his races are in the first 10 or 11 heats.” So why did Paul Hurry name King at 2 & why is he doing it again (providing he rides)?

That in reality is all part of the ebb and flow of a season - most riders drop a bit of form at some point sometimes people lose patience quickly - as the saying goes change for changes sake isn't usually worth it - lack of form usually corrects. No doubting however that due to the lateness of arrival etc you had a pretty weak top 3 - it was about the best you could maybe get at the time. For my money Batch has probably exceeded expectations riding in a tricky no 2 spot - now at reserve and for now scoring ok/ well he is merely replacing another reserve Thompson who had a storming first part of the season! Over to your promoters / team manager! BTW I was impressed with their comms and openness about the rack changes whilst we were sat waiting - as the saying time can go quick in a crisis but most people can handle waiting provided they are told why! I felt they handled that V well.

its a wierdly concocted team , all at the last minute so suppose you cant be too critical. 4 3rd heatleaders and a few others including thompson who has been the star really. you cant say the home matches arent close and competitive tho .

Batchelor probably relatively cheap, uk based, less likely to get a big injury, "he is what he is". The team's been put together based on reality including a limited budget to get started. But there haven't been many if any thrashings. A bit unfair to focus on his limitations when the main weakness of the team is the top end. And we know why that weakness exists

You will be welcomed with open arms by the NID boys, great bunch of guys a lot of mickey taking in that corner for sure. But they like all speedway supporters.

Batch gets a lot of hate on all public forums/social media platforms. As a comets fan, I dont have a bad word to say about him. Yes its frustrating when he pulls up at the back, but the guy has quite often saved us from being an embarrassment over the last couple of seasons. He hasnt missed a single meeting for us and often scores 8+ points a meeting. We would have had a lot of thrashings last season, more so than we got, if it weren't for batch.

First time for me, too. Very impressed with the set-up -- well-marshalled parking, friendly staff, good infrastructure with food/drink/merchandise etc all readily availableand an interesting programme. Problems with the new material on track led to a loooong delay, but communication with the crowd was good and the racing afterwards was excellent. Interesting to see a lot of fans, both adults and children, in Foxes shirts. Encouraging to see this response as the club tries to build its own fan base and not rely on Coventry and Peterborough supporters getting their fix, welcome as they no doubt are. The blue/orange/white colours are striking and the fox logo is a very clever design, immediately attractive to children but with plenty of character and detail to swing adults too. Full marks on that one. If I have a mild criticism it is that the stadium comes over as a tad functional at the moment. Even the odd tub of flowers would help there. But overall a really good and very welcome addition to the sport. Special kudos to the very young and very diligent litter pickers in action on bends one and two, they were great!

Will be a miracle if there’s speedway at Shielfield on Saturday

Question, has everybody been unable to access this forum for the last four days or so? Or was it just me.

Enjoyed my 2nd visit to the GT Tyres arena on Saturday, its a brilliant set up with great racing. Commiserations to the Comets on the result but happy days for us few Pirates fans who made the trip up.

Didn’t even know there was another forum, with this one being down for the last 3/4 days I wondered if like British Speedway its days were numbered. Despite a very small minority who try to spoil it for everyone else, this platform is very important and it would be a big loss if there wasn’t something like this for fans to have a debate of exchange views on.

Hope he does get a team place somewhere and can get on with his life, he's paid his dues.

I've given up, posted not long ago about how I haven't attended any meetings this year. Shame and sad. Reason one is money, I'm saving and losing speedway hasn't bothered me too much in the slightest, I only miss the chit chat. Speedway is now expensive to attend. Reason two is the lack of importance, Its sad that I don't care if my team wins the cup this year. I honestly couldn't give a monkeys about it. I could probably put another dozen reasons why I've given up but all of it has been mentioned previously. Until they implement real change I'm not going back. What does the change look like? I'm not sure but I want them to TRY something new at least. Its still the same boring usual suspects in the play offs with the same teams on crap tracks followed by tractor racing. God I could rant on but you don't need to read it. Oh and for those supporters still claiming the premiership is necessary, just look at your attendances, how many clubs are closing or losing money and if the sport is better off with it. I personally have completely given up with it. The premiership DOESNT WORK.

2026 as been a hard watch and that started from november 25, a winter of discontent not knowing what structure will be, lost lots of fans before a wheel was even turned, and they not done anything to entice them back. i remember dicko saying they will be sorting 2027 out very early during the seasoon, well we are nearer the end of the season and nothing about 27 as been mentioned, set out a plan that fans believe in and you might just entice these people back, fans are out there, thats the frustrating thing. before they start trying to bring new fans in they need to bring back the fans that have walked away, start of by securing a TV deal, thats a masisve loss of money for the clubs, plus people easily forget the sport is still going when all the domestic league racing is behind a paywall that only existing fans know about. no one knows the figures of BSN or the clubs private streams but they are deffo having an impact on attendances, yes clubs are still getting money with them watching at home but they lose out on parking money, food and drink and merchandise sales, so they must be taking a massive financial kick in the bollocks with it. scrap streaming need a new vision, Rob Godfrey has to stand down, which i think will be this year, if they can, while hes not everybodys cup of team, and tbh, i see him as a guy that will leave the sport and never be seen again, but try tempt Tai to run the sport in uk, hes got no ties with any club, and we know his marketing value is very good. leads me perfectly to marketing, or lack of it, constantly asking fans to spread the word about speedway, i think most fans do that anyway but your job as a promotor is to promote, and it seems no one does, Plymouth are doing a fanstastic job of it. that old saying, speculate to accumulate, advertising is not cheap but if it gets you an extra 100 people through the door at £25 thats £2,500 extra every week, add on top of that drinks and other sales. Ask Mark Phillips what hes doing and plymouth and follow his ideas, he seems to be upping his crowd. dont do one league, every sport needs a top league to sell, put the points limit up and go back to the old style , 45 point limit for 7 riders, scrap the RS and put it in the champ. prepare your tracks better and you will see an influx of riders return, riders want to race uk but they dont trust track prep when you speak to them or hear what they have to say on various podcasts. season tickets should be discounted like ipswich have done. sell the season ticket valued at £20 per match, and give them the option to pay monthly, starting from november, atmosphere is missing totally, each track have a certain area in the stadium where fans can congregate and make some noise, start meetings on time, and make sure they last no more than 90 minutes (crashes dependent) regular fixtures, far to many teams going 4-5 weeks without a home match, should be 2 weeks at most re-brand the play offs, i like the Denmark way of doing it, whoever finishes top of regular season ride the final at there track in a 4TT, or make it top team straight to the final and 2nd and 3rd team if a play off tie for the final we all want weekend racing, but we just cant do that unfortunately, the top league need to ride all matches on Mondays, this is uk race night, there will be no clashes with any team in europe and gives clubs' full availability to all riders fort every match, dont scrap the guests but limit the amount of times you can use a guest,

1. "f*** me! This is boring" - Newcomer after only 3 heats and 1 hour into the meeting. 2. "We're not getting value for money" - Disgruntled regular who leaves after heat 14 even though there is a junior second half as well and then has a whinge about promoters not doing enough for youngster on the forum when they get home. 3. "It's all fixed for Poole to win everything" - Everyone else apart from Poole Fans 4. "Come on' Bomber!" - Most speedway fans cheering on a popular British rider as he's usually racing for their team. 5. "Hit Him" - most speedway fans whenever any riders/officials have handbags next to the pit gate. Doesn't matter who they are (hey they could be team mates for all we care) but someone's having a scrap!!

Following the Bates announcement on Monday, it's clear that the Premiership can't continue to exist in its current form in 2027. In the past 18 months we've lost Oxford and Birmingham and it seems certain that Sheffield won't be back for another year. Decades of the sport's mismanagement has finally come to a head. Bending over backwards to comply with an agenda dictated by Poland has had its day. British speedway needs to set its own agenda and not kowtow to foreign stipulations. If it means saying a permanent goodbye to riders preferring to seek their fortunes elsewhere, so be it. For survival we need a single nationwide league of 12/14 teams of riders committed 100% to British racing between March and October. A 24/26 match league programme plus a further 8/10 matches in a split north-south KO cup competition will guarantee teams a weekly match programme (just as it used to be!) The loss of a few "fancy-Dan" racers to Poland will mean much more money available to the rest who wish to compete in the UK, and a sensible rider payment policy will provide ample earnings potential for riders over a guaranteed 36-match season. It now really is a battle for survival of the sport; was it Einstein who said that to go on doing the same things expecting different results is the definition of madness?

The art of a good commentator is to know what to say and when to keep quiet based on whether they are on the tv or the radio. For television, you don't need to explain absolutely everything as people can see it for themselves. For radio, a continual description is needed. For a phrase, one that Olly Allen has used quite a few times this year when conditions has been wet (and others have used it as well) is "He's been filled in..." We know it's to do with the dirt, but it can have other meanings! 😉

High Wide and Handsome I reckon! A couple of ones that I always recall and they actually started to grate on me a bit - 'he's going to wind it on round the outside' - 'Cuts back to the inside' both these phrases usually resulted in no passing!

The phrase I hate is a big 5-1. For it to be big some 5-1's must be smaller. Its not big it significant, strategic or important. Ahhhhhhhh rant over.
