I don't think Poole was regarded as the best track back then, there were other great tracks like Kings Lynn, Peterborough, Swindon, Coventry etc that produced great racing. You can't compare with todays tracks. Kings Lynn for example does not produce the same excitement or amount of passing it used to. The meeting you continually refer to was fantastic largely because of the riders involved and to see riders like Havvy in the twilight of his career on the ragged edge was amazing. Unfortunately those days are gone, the track certainly deteriorated to the point where the gp challenge in 2013 when the track was very bumpy and dangerous. The track is safer and much better now, I understand you find it boring because your own track produces such great racing but last night produced passing and close racing which was entertaining in my view.

Richard Coleman has my respect for speaking up and going against those who've run British Speedway into the ground. If no change happens then at least Richard tried to make change happen and therefore will be exempt from criticism if British Speedway completely collapses. Need more than just Richard calling it out though and hopefully others will follow in his footsteps and take a stand against the usual suspects who don't like to listen.

Once again thats a very good interview and I’m more impressed every time I hear him speak. I know there’s fans of other clubs who wont be as enthused about him coming in because they’ll see it as a competitor being in rude health and potentially having strong teams in the near future which will harm their own clubs chances of success and I totally understand that. It’s natural as a fan to think that way. BUT, what they need to understand is the bloke seems genuinely more interested in pulling British Speedway up off the floor and getting it back on its feet than prioritising Ipswich’ individual success. As he says “Ipswich will need somebody to race against” and he clearly wants a thriving British league so everybody should be behind him because its in everyones interest not just Ipswich. The little smirk when he was talking about some just wanting to keep “The status quo” and some not being receptive to his ideas was probably an indication that he's fully aware he’s up against it. Every single one of us know exactly who he’s talking about without him even having to name them! Until these absolute dinosaurs who want to continue limping along each year, reducing the points limit each year and doing the bare minimum each year, become extinct, then I fear he’ll be fighting a losing battle. You can bet your last Rolo that they’ll absolutely despise Richard Coleman.

Poole very rarely put a poor team together and it is not all about money.

Interesting reading the comments regarding the Poole track, they seem very unfounded and unwarranted...The Poole track has always been consistent, nothing has changed since the days of Schofield, Crump, Rossiter etc the only thing that has changed is that nowadays it is the likes of Lawson and Cook.

Well everyone else is wrong lol! Poole could have replaced Bowes anytime if they had a suitable replacement lined up. Plus I don't think there's a single Champ club who would replace a 5 pointer with a NL rider. Poole are clearly stronger without Bowes, but have done no wrong.

Considering the injuriesthat are listed in the Speedway Star I doubt Holder will be back this season. "I broke my humerous pretty good + had to have an operation on that. I've also broken my right foot, my right ankle + a couple of ribs". "I also broke the sacrum bone in my pelvis. That's probably the worst one right now. It's uncomfortable to sit down". I don't consider Shielfield Park much better. It can be and had been on my many visits gate and go and all over by the second bend.

Message from former Berwick rider Connor Coles posted on social media. The last few months have given me a lot of time to reflect. As I’ve been working through my recovery, I’ve seen the thousands of messages, comments and well wishes that were sent while I was in a coma and afterwards. There are too many to reply to individually, but I’ve read them, and I genuinely appreciate every bit of support. To everyone who took the time to send a message, say a prayer, donate, support my family, or simply think of me – thank you. That support carried me and meant a lot to me, Kirsty, Isabella, Poppie and everyone close to us during one of the toughest periods we’ve been through. I’ve been asked a lot about whether I’ll race again. After long discussions with my family and medical team, I’ve made the decision to retire from professional speedway. It’s not how I ever wanted things to end, but I have to be realistic about where I’m at. Like every rider, I always thought I’d choose the moment myself, but that choice has been taken out of my hands. Speedway has been a massive part of my life. It’s given me good times, tough times, friendships, and experiences I’ll never forget. I’m proud of what I achieved in the sport and proud to have been part of it. Right now, my focus is simple – keep working on my recovery and be there for my family. Thank you to every club I’ve ridden for, my teammates, sponsors, mechanics, volunteers and the fans who stood by me throughout my career. I’ve never taken any of it for granted. That’s the end of my racing career, and the start of a new chapter. Thank you.

Another derby rolls round. Presumably if the Blue and Gold record another victory at the Possilpark Raceway we get to keep them? Looking forward to the usual dominant display against our beloved neighbours.

They are using R/R but wanted a guest, I don’t think you should be allowed a guests for second strings or reserves.

I think Jenkins was a possibility at one stage when he finished covering for Battye until Berwick decided to keep him and drop Fredericksen!! Looking at our August fixtures I reckon Jenkins might be a good choice of guest on 12th v Scunny.

Exactly, I agree with you mostly, that's why I said I don't understand them bringing him in so late if they've been talking to him for 3+ months. If they'd made the signing earlier he could have had plenty of time time settle in rather than being thrown in so late on. I'm a neutral as far as the Championship is concerned anyway so makes no difference to me personally, but I hope he goes well, it was a a surprise that he wasn't back at Workington this year. I thought him and Vuolas both missing out on team places was a real shame.

If Hook struggles, it will lower his average, which could help his bargaining, by saying "I'm better than that, but was racing against riders already dialled in". Strange situation signing a 5.5 rider as a "3rd heat leader". If Scunny have been talking to Hook since April, means they could have replaced MPT when he lost form, but chose not to. However he goes, I will applaud Scunthorpe for not going down the guest route.

I don't necessarily think its crazy to bring him in, Jacob is a promising rider and a nice lad to boot, but why not earlier in the season if they have been talking to him "since April"? And I think its crazier still that they didn't bring in Vuolas if they're clearly willing to bring in riders from further afield.

Turkey's don't vote for Christmas!!! The BIG difference now though, is that rather than one league always having significantly higher numbers, like over the last couple of decades, (ie tier two), if just two teams "move up" then tier one will have the majority of tracks... The tail no longer will be able to wag the dog... It hasn't been by chance I would think that most BSP Chairmen have been tier two promoters over the recent past... Poland's "one other league" (not one country and two leagues), if they get their way, will be a game changer for UK Speedway... DU riders, who choose the UK, will have a clear decision to make... And, tier two in particular, will be a very different landscape than what we, and they, have been accustomed to for (probably), far too long, particularly as so much DUing has hugely contributed to the current paucity of riders.. Colemans vision of greater demarcation between the leagues over here will organically happen if Poland get their way... And, personally, if I was him, and I had his wider influence, I would definitely be encouraging it to happen. As that would mean the much needed radical change of direction for UK Speedway, would inevitably have to happen, (and I would be able to blame someone else for it!!!)..

Same as John Berry mid 80's Mike was probably the most successful promoter in the UK as the time sold Ipswich and moved into big chief role with lots of ideas and was gone within a month.

Not unless they've changed the rules you can't. Only change allowed would be to bring back an injured rider after a temporary change ie Erik Riss / Charles Wright scenarios.

He is another in an ever growing list of "outsiders" to come in to Speedway and see potential.. Similar to John Postlelthwaite in that he has feet in both GP and UK Speedway camps, (someone who has continued to be very successful in his own post Speedway career).. Postlethwaite, however, sadly, didn't get listened to with his vision on how to deliver the huge potential the sport has, and neither did those others who also came in from outside the "UK Speedway Bubble" since.. The Speedway Stars "x years ago" section is very telling, almost every week, as they cover off what was being discussed from decades ago, and, almost every week, the same issues that we still discuss today get mentioned as something that "desperately needs sorting"... Meaning many from inside the sport have spotted the clear and obvious issues, (and it isn't just the moaners on the BSF), yet, their view on things obviously fell on deaf ears... (Or maybe not deaf ears but ears with fingers stuck in them and the person going "LA! LA! LA! I can't hear you!!")... Coleman reminds me of Postlethwaite in that politically, and emotional intellectually, he is of a much higher level than many within UK Speedway, and, regardless of whether he gets listened to, will personally be a success in whatever he does in business going forwards... It is a huge opportunity for the sport in the UK to use his capability, contacts and acumen... The, "quite content with their lot, Hobbyists" may not concur though!!! Let's, as fans of the sport, who can also see its obvious potential, (if only just down now to its low point currently), he can deliver significant progress and growth...

Wimborne Road used to be one of the best tracks in the country, if not the best. The 2004 World Cup - hosted by Poole - produced some of the best speedway I can recall. Domestic meetings were pure entertainment too. I’m not sure what’s happened, but I didn’t even tune in last night, despite paying for a BSN season pass. Wimborne Road has somehow become the speedway equivalent to a sleeping tablet.

So it's alright to criticise Pooles Wimborne Road circet but as soon as I mention Berwicks track then that's not ok. What exactly do you want Poole to do with the track as we don't own the stadium . To widen the track without knowing how many more seasons there are left at the stadium doesn't make sense as well as the cost.

Siggy was my childhood idol. Can vividly remember crying all day long when he was forced to retire through his ankle injury! Was a serious threat to the Danish dominance of the 80’s before that incident. Beaten Nielsen in the run off of the most lucrative meeting ever allegedly at the time, the British Open in 82 which was the standard of the world final itself, then topped the British League averages on 10.99 in 83 and was on an upward trajectory. Then came that accident in 84 that cut his career stone dead. We’ll obviously never know for sure but I’m convinced he would have stopped Nielsen and Gundersen from dominating the world Championship between them in the 80’s.

Sorry to see him go, to give credit sometimes if your heart isn't in it then its right to make that decision rather than try to soldier on! A great career in many ways won many things - fair play to him! Some times the hardest decision in any career is timing the exit!

Well i dont buy the Berwick one so that evens that out lol. Funny how Poole gets the most fans through the gate though. 👀 Tbf first half the meeting was a bit of close racing esp between Morris and Masters. Jenkins also had few close battles. Most overtaking was done by Kennett and Newman, so i would say more passing then usual. Although watching Kennett is like watching a young rider going full throttle. 150% every race, fair play to him. Backs off when he has to though!

Still interesting to get your take on Eastbourne M.D how much did they get stiffed for by the last promoter ?

Wouldn't mind seeing Villads back in the stripes of Glasgow! Could be a cracking 3rd heat leader at no.3 + finished on 7.39 last season and was he not at Ashfield recently helping someone out...

He has said that he has not enjoyed his racing for a while and is stepping away with immediate effect to spend more time with his family. A sad loss to the sport in this country and I am sure many on this forum wish him well in whatever he decides to do.

I've seen some of the abuse the owner of the site has been receiving on social media from "speedway fans". From an outsiders point of view it doesn't portray those fans in a very positive light and the local council would be perfectly entitled to say "on your bike" (no pun intended). I've looked at this from both sides. You can't force the stadium owner to reinstate the speedway if it won't make them any money just because some nostalgic fanatics still long for the good old days of Uncle Len. I actually thing an extension of the go-karting facilities or all-weather football pitches will bring far more benefits for the community and local economy than an old niche sport will ever do.

Before I start, I should declare that I am a long standing nerd who feels sometimes like the only person who really cares about race times and track records. I know this isn't really true but you know what I mean. On the subject of Sheffield's track record, I have often thought that it was appropriate that Ricky Ashworth would probably remain as the named track record in Sheffield's race programmes forever. I wasn't aware that Jack had posted a new TR (and neither do Sheffield, apparently, as Ricky is still named as the TR holder on their website). But the discrepancy between the new official time of 58.92 and the 62.19 high edge says he has timed "by hand" from the video, is not a small amount. Can the video replay speed be a factor? I really hope that it's not a function of using transponders.
