  1. People spontaneously combusting on here and social media that Coleman has “taken an GP away from Belle Vue and given it to Ipswich instead” are not surprisingly way off yet again. He very much wants the GP at the NSS but there are issues that he’s trying hard to resolve. Everyone is in full agreement that Belle Vue holds the best possible racing. In an ideal world and this is just my opinion, they would have one GP at the NSS every year as standard, and then move the other around different parts of the country for variety and giving supporters from different parts of the UK a chance to go and see a GP without major travelling. Win win.

  4. Farcical the gp series could be decided by sprint race points. Since when is a sprint race speedway?

  5. The centre green is being lowered by 600mm with new drainage and the inside of the track lowered by the same amount to give much better banking. obviously the majority of the track will be removed to allow for a much lower sub base and then a new shale surface will go in replacing the awful clay surface. spedeworth are demolishing the existing home straight stand and replacing it with a three tier building right up to the first bend. At a cost of £1.75 million. There will be a tunnel through the stand to enter the track. new pits area as current ones will be in the way of the new lengthened stand. But like you say minimal track changes. 😆

  7. It feels like RC is the kind of character we've needed for many years. As has been said the difficult bit for him will be getting people to follow him but whatever he is proposing has to better than scraping by or losing money every season? There needs to be a longer term plan and a strategy for growth rather than cobbling together the same old format every year and you feel this fella might well be able to provide that. Every interview he does is impressive.

  9. Would snap your hand off for either. ”I was in Wroclaw on Sunday having discussions within the rider market” There is undoubtedly going to be rider(s) shared across the two clubs I think that’s obvious. Riders putting pen to paper for Wroclaw will also be nudged in this direction. It’s going to be fascinating from an Ipswich perspective this winter, more than usual I think. On the track, it was great to hear the plans for that and his determination to improve the racing. Altering the shape slightly, uprooting the drains and completely changing the track surface. It sounds like he’s going to do the job Louis announced he would do but shelved due to costs when he realised the work involved would include uprooting the drains. We also know there will be new track curators here also. Fair play to him. He’s going to make a huge difference to this club, and hopefully British Speedway in general (if he’s allowed…).

  11. Oliver Allen is absolutely clueless, incredible he used to ride speedway yet has so little grip on the rules of the sport. Shocking.

  12. Our friend @ouch has to be odds on favourite, with our even older friend @AceBelle rising like a phoenix from the ashes at evens. Long shots, @mikebv and @PhilTheAce, they’re far too chilled to be the “Ordinary Man” for my money 😁 Edit: Forgot @Rob B! Dark horse for sure!

  13. It isn’t just an Ipswich thing either. It’s nice for southern based supporters everywhere to get an opportunity to see Zmarzlik and Co in the flesh. It should move around more IMO. Maybe Glasgow next stop?

  14. To be fair to the fella why shouldn't Foxhall have a gp you can't say Richard isn't putting a shift in to steer the leaky ship in a better direction he deserves a few personal win's for the time/cash he's putting into the sport.

  15. Nice technical track to sort the men from the boys instead of just throttle jockey. I have to say it'll give the British based riders an advantage for a change.😜

  16. World of Sport finishing was the catalyst... The domestic offering has always been a "bit Mickey Mouse" but lived off the "proper stuff" that you watched on a Saturday afternoon, be it individual championships that meant something, with good prize money, or England winning World Titles .. When domestic UK Speedway had to stand alone without that TV coverage to engage people to attend, it was simply found wanting, and unable to evolve... The TV package was very much highlights driven, therefore the sport looked like it was that way all the time. Eg. Watching PC win three races of his five from the back gave the sport huge interest at the turnstiles when these riders visited... Instead of evolving, the same old, same old has been trotted out year after year, to ever dwindling numbers who, after voicing their frustration for a fair old time, eventually gave up complaining and voted with their feet... UK Speedway is the "Woolworths" of sport in the UK, ie stuck in a one dimensional time warp and unable to change given the skill set of those who lead it... You could walk into a Woolworths in the early 2000's and it looked pretty much the same as it did when you walked in to one as a kid in the 70's.. UK Speedway has a similar vibe...

  24. It is bent. Jepsen Jensen is knocked out in the first qualifying round. Pawelczak is through to the sprint race final. Yet both Pawelczak's times were slower than Jepsen Jensen's time.

  25. Apart from racing wise it’s a good call on every other level from fans POV and financial point of view, yes the track needs something to improve the racing but rough or not if your the best in the world you should be able to ride it

  26. After his second big crash (when leading!) he returned to the hospital for more tests as he was in extreme pain when trying to turn the bike. Following a second MRI scan, a previously undiagnosed spinal disc rupture injury was discovered. The medics (who missed it the first time) advised upto 6 months rest, so he informed the promotion (he was living at Matt Ford's) that he had to step down and return to Oz for proper recuperation and treatment.

  27. Couldn’t have put it better myself. It’ll be a sell out regardless so those turning their nose up are free to do so, it’ll just make it easier for the rest of us. I’m thoroughly looking forward to both the GP, AND the SGP2 on the Friday. They’re going to be working hard on upgrading the track in the winter, people will do well to actually give them a chance. They may be pleasantly surprised. It’s good to see the worlds best put through their paces on something different to the many identikit tracks they’re used to. Let’s be honest, a fair few of the GP’s have hardly been thrill a minute stuff.

  28. You need to do more research. In fact, you should read the posts just a bit further up this thread. There will be a HUGE amount of work going on at Foxhall over the winter to the track shape, surface, drainage etc to improve the racing. More work done to the venue itself. What will host the GP in just under a year will not be what is there at present. This is a breath of fresh air. Something new to freshen up the World Championship. Seems there are still some who want to continue with the stale status quo. Coleman is here to shake things up and pump life into speedway on the world and British stage. He could well be the person to rescue speedway in this country and get it back to where it needs to be. Why there is so much kickback shocks me.

  29. Disgraceful decision.

  30. Just what I want to hear! Even if no speedway fans of other clubs come to Foxhall it will still be sold out, this town and county has a massive sport following and once it does the rounds in the local news it will be hard to get a ticket! I think you’ll see 10,000+ at Foxhall. I hope Coleman gives priority to the witches fans for early ticket sales too.

  31. Well at least I’ve saved some money by not having to buy tickets for the British event.

  33. Heard that Coleman is looking for a non-league football stadium that has a decent capacity where he can lay a track around the pitch. So the 2027 Manchester Grand Prix will be at the Etihad Stadium.

  38. Why is this meeting being run at the same time as the GP finale
    2 points
  39. Two nights at the GP's cost me well over £300 for two tickets and that kind of outlay (and more for others to sit down), definitely, once again, meant that domestic meeting attendances before, and after, got hit, and quite severely... Maybe not having a GP next season will help the Aces attendance wise?... I will be very surprised if they run on the 12th of June given Oasis are in town, a mile away, and there is hardly a "very expensive" room available now, already, in Manchester for that evening... And one GP wouldn't justify the six figure outlay for the extra seating that needs putting in to take the capacity up to "profit levels"... Maybe Glasgow would fancy it?...

  41. A couple of things I think are worth mentioning after speaking to my mate this morning. For context, I took a friend along last night for his first ever experience of speedway. I’ve already joked about his thoughts on the poor choice of music, so won’t include that. The wait between heats 14 and 15 was around 25 minutes. Granted, they had the kids race and the Ben Fund collection, but he’s new to the sport and had been made aware the meeting was over as a context, so that’s quite a long time to wait for a race that lasts less than a minute. I think that needs better organised. Didn’t see a rider FWIW. Had a tenner in hand, but no rider came around the back straight. The woman next to me said the same thing. We saw Stuart Coleman (not a wider, but carrying a bucket nonetheless) pass a couple of rows ahead but no rider. Bizarre. Last thing - he was having a laugh about me having to fill out a programme because I don’t when we go to the football. So, twice, I let him fill out the programme and twice, the announcer made mistakes with who finished second and third. I’ve actually mentioned this before on here. It’s basic stuff. Time will tell if he’ll be back, but all in all, he said it was a good night. No doubt he found parts of it amateur though. Like the music, the hanging around, messing up the times, etc.

  42. I think it’s great news. Although I know I’m likely to be on my own on this, I prefer a track where riders come within centimetres of each other when trying to pass, rather than there being metres which can happen at BV. And hopefully Ipswich will provide a GP at prices comparable to European tracks and maybe even have similar facilities. The grandly named “National Speedway Stadium” was only called that as a sop to Manchester City Council when they were being asked to part with many millions of council tax payers money, but it has never lived up to its name. In my opinion.

  43. Totally accept that it’s great news for fans of Ipswich speedway and supporters in that part of the country. But for neutral supporters I think it will generally feel like disappointing news

  45. I want Zmarzlik to win to cement him as the greatest of all time and also at this time it’s clear that ashtek engines are superior to Kowalski tuned engines especially in straight line speed so for Zmarzlik to beat the 2 ashtek tuned riders is also another win, I’d rather lambert win than Kurtz otherwise but whoever wins all 3 will be deserved winners and it’s going to be a tense brilliant final round and I’m so happy to be here to witness it

  46. Lets hope he gets support from the other promoters otherwise you can see him losing faith and exiting left in a couple of years as other people who have tried to push the sport forward in the past have done.

  49. Well done Scorpions. I was one of those at the start of the season who predicted them bottom but they've proved a lot of people wrong, well deserved. Too big of a deficit in the end but we at least ran it close. Glasgow just couldn't quite get the momentum but an enjoyable meeting overall, heat 11 especially.
