2026 Premiership is Go! - At least 5 teams

Probably too late to arrange now but why not have the Knockout Cup involving both leagues. At least it would give some variety and renewed interest with different teams competing against each other.

If a Championship team is drawn against a Premier League team then there is only one leg with the Championship team being at home. Otherwise, it's two legs home and away. Semi finals and Final to be over two legs no matter which teams get through to the latter stages. Try and get a sponsor on board with decent prize money and make it a trophy/tournament worth winning.

Example of what some matches could be drawn out of the hat as:-

Plymouth v Kings Lynn, Poole v Belle Vue, Edinburgh v Sheffield etc. Would surely create a lot of interest and give the fans something different. Worth a try?

So if the Championship get the one home leg who pays the Premiership team??

The Championship won't agree to anything with a financial risk to their set up

Then you have the doubling up and who rides for who when the inevitable clash happens

Plymouth v King's Lynn does Nicolai ride 2 for Plymouth and 2 for Lynn?

Riders coming past while stood on the back straight “hoorah we’re on a 5-1, then as you see them cross the line, hang on they’re on a 5-1??” 🙈😂😂👌👌

Just think of the excitement it would bring...

Plus...

Team riding by yourself....

And maybe even Guesting for yourself...

Six points for a win would certainly boost the riders pay packet too..

Ticks a lot of boxes, for me...

Imagine if they tried that last year! Imagine if Poole agreed to be the 8th team to race in the KOC and they got drawn against Sheffield, then imagine the mighty Poole getting cold feet and pulling out so Sheffield got a buy into the next round, just imagine if that happened…

Fair enough but I'm just trying to think outside the box. Boy, does Speedway need it. My suggestion is not perfect by any means but I'm sure there's ways they could work around it. All I'm saying is that the sport needs a new direction, a new impetus and more variety. At the  moment it's same old same old and needs something different to get new fans in.

Even bringing back the Gold Helmet would be a good start. A decent sponsor, some decent publicity and put it out there that there's bad blood between the two contestants (akin to boxing etc). Remember the Golden Helmet match races between Carter and Penhall, now that really did catch the public's imagination!

Hear hear. Always a highlight that brought in the crowds.

As with so many suggestions that at face value seem interesting and innovative once you scratch through the surface there are often huge holes which are as bad/worse as the situation intended to resolve

Like the one big league brigade thinking it will be at current Championship standard etc

Change is inevitable, imperative and over due but the solution will never be a concensus of agreement

I fear that those with the decision in their hands have it in them to reach agreement and implement it smoothly

I’m pretty sure that has already happened. I’m sure someone on here can remember the rider involved.

John Davis 1975. He was allocated to Reading from Oxford. Oxford were allowed a guest until a replacement arrived.

Step forward John Davis.

Dear old JD had the best equipment and was well funded but he would have been better off at longtrack, I remember when he signed for Lynn poss 88 under Simmo and Bill Barker he was a good trapper but coming out of the second bend he would be leaving a gap on the inside the titantic could have got through.

And JD'S riding the boards wasn't in the Henka or Loram style it was more just looking uncomfortable on the bike, to be fair he had an above average career but he never looked suited to speedway to me he would have been better on an oval twice the size of Lynn where he could drift off 20 metres from the inside line.

Hard to be exact because of so many lower order Premiership team changes, but I recon that there are about 17 currently announced in the Championship next year that were not doubling up in the Premiership last year.

No 2026 Premiership signings announced yet, but last year there were about 23 riders that rode Premiership without riding Championship.
