  1. just watched a random meeting from back in the day. My favourite place to visit was always Brandon, and Poole was always the top team when I was growing up (now belle Vue 😜) how great would it be for Coventry to return to top league and Poole to return to the top flight to. speedway could be great again

  3. While talking of nostalgia ,for me nothing beats the BLRC CHAMPIONSHIP meetings at Belle Vue Hyde Rd. Jam-packed every year+ Fun Fair for after.

  4. Not quite on the same lines as the other posts but I bought some photo's off Vinted from Newport that were taken on the corner I used to stand with my old man after a few too many sherbets last week. The lady kindly put in a host a of old programmes that her uncle had left, opened the package at my old mans and they turned out to be his old programmes dating back to the early 70s and up to 2004. He'd sold them on just after Newport closed and I've somehow managed to get them back. Great Sunday afternoon reminiscing over lunch

  5. Home advantage Hardly gonna set it up to how he likes it. I could see him having similar debuts to Mcdiarmid and Bowes at Poole (maybe having to wait for playoffs if we meet). So Bowes would be a good replacement although be hard to reproduce similar score but you never know.

  6. Ended up buying the excellent stream. The journey home from Gloucester took an age as I stopped 14 times! Great win for Pirates who nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Lawson very tough in heat 15 to secure the points. 43-46.

  7. Christ we were spoiled in those days Mike add in Henka, Rikardson, Boyce, Adams, Gunderson, Neilson, Pederson, Knudson, Loram stacks of star riders.

  8. BV v Wolves in the early 90's were some of the best meetings I have ever watched... Both Home and Away... Ott, The Moran's, Screen, Lyons, Ermolenko, The Karlssons, Correy Jones, etc... Brilliant racing, with many last heat deciders... Then air fences came in to narrow both tracks, and laydowns came in to put power down on the track differently...

  9. enjoy I was there for that sat in the grandstand

  10. I was thinking about the Pirates too...😁 Him and Leon Madsen at six and seven... ☺️ Payback for having to ride on a Thursday, a day when no one in Poole is allowed out... 😁

  11. Superb memories loved the British final at Coventry. Right up there with the Fours at Peterborough. Two of the best days out they were.

  12. I recall my Dad taking me to the 1975 final. We had to walk around the track (there was viewing all round then) twice to find a suitable gap in the crowd for viewing. Nigel Boocock was in attendance for photo opportunities to sit on his bike next to him. Ah, nostalgia is just not what it was!

  14. Neither did Frazer Bowes but look how he scored the other week, when poor old worky took you to a last heat decider 😃

  15. Maybe said rider has decided to not spend any more money on his UK kit until he gets paid?

  16. I don't know the finances but I would bet the BSI did take a share in the financial risk even if the local promoter had the most to lose. I am not suggesting a GP is going to cause a surge in domestic audiences but it can only have a positive effect. I don't think holding a gp in USA/Argentena/Australia/New zealand will be a profitable event, unless you take into account growth of the sport and sponsorship. The same could possibly be said for UK(if it was a single event), Latvia, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Russia. Discovery failing to grow the series is now causing them sponsorship problems.

  18. Starke proving again why he was a better option than keeping Foord this season despite what people have said.

  19. The other thing I have noticed when doing research and google flagging me posts on this site from 10 plus years back is how many people no longer post here unless they have rebranded, I reckon there is 30-40 of us on here which again is shocking for when you think about what the sport used to be.

  20. The BLRC at Hyde Road was always an incredible meeting, all the top riders a line up that was better than the world final, 20,000 crowds, and the fun fair as previously mentioned. I also loved it when each track had their own individual meeting The Golden Hammer at Cradley, The Brandonapolis at Coventry, the Internationale at Wimbledon, and The Pride of the East at Kings lynn imagine individual meetings and challenge matches drawing crowds today?

  21. Sorry to interrupt, but just thought people might be interested. Just had a chat with Middleditch to ask about Tobias's foot. Apparently it was just a sprain, and he will be back for next Wednesday.

  24. I wouldn't blame any young foreign rider who signed mid way through the season to miss national team meetings no matter how inconsequential they seem. There are a lot of very talented young Danes and Villads needs to ride in these meetings to show he is committed and fast so he'll be picked for the bigger meetings over his peers.

  26. Was looking forward to watching Nagel round the wide open spaces of the Northside track , but the Danish under 19's is such a important event in the grand scheme of world speedway . He's not quite at Thomas H Jonasson level at missing meetings for a Scottish club , but its getting close .

  27. There was loads of great races back in the day. Before bikes got too fast. Watch any race with Moran v Nielsen in it.

  28. another great memory foor me was my first visit to Foxhall in 1988 for the England v Denmark test match against expectation England won 47-43, Silver top scoring from reserve and old Kelvin T holding off Hans Nielsen in one heat with his loose race jacket flapping round his face!!

  32. I went 87-90 and they were sunday afternoons - full house event 12k+ in attendance - I have a picture of the full stadium for one of them - sadly the Gps reduced the british Final to a bit of a rump competetion. I also went to the British GP at Brandon in 2000 - again sold out etc - great event - Martin Dugard the wildcard won it!

  33. Thats a shame. I wanted Parnitskyi to win it but much rather him win with the main opposition riding. I well know "you have to be in it to win it", but still leaves a question "would he have won it if Przyjemski had have been riding.

  34. Taken from the Speedway Riders Index 1929-2022: Bernie Lewis LAGROSSE Born: 2 August 1939, Christchurch, New Zealand. Died: 30 June 2007. Career record: (1965) Glasgow; (1968-70) Berwick. NOTE: This rider originally rode under his real name of Bernie Lagrosse for Glasgow in 1965 but, when he returned in 1968, Trevor Redmond took some riders to Wales and said if anyone volunteered to be a Welshman for the night, there would be a bonus in it. Lagrosse agreed and Roy Williams was born!

  35. Count yourselves lucky. A lot of Poole fans love going to Glasgow for that reason.

  36. Yes, but... I dare say that if Peterborough and Wolverhampton were still in operation then Oxford would still be riding in the CL & NDL only. They came "up" with Birmingham when the 2 aforementioned clubs ceased operation to make the numbers up for a viable PL to operate and keep the TV people happy.

  37. From Day 1 I said it wasn't financially viable to run in all three leagues. Higher ups need to take some responsibility in this as well imo and maybe they should help Oxford out financially.

  39. How is Hook allowed to guest for Oxford when he rode there for Workington on Sunday? Doesn't 8 day rule apply?

  40. That is rubbish, Lidsey is one of the best in the league especially away, Zische and Blodorn have both been disappointing but Mulford has been better recently, Zach has had an up and down season but is capable of good scores in the play offs.

  41. Just need to gain momentum for the play offs. Can’t see any team beating them man for man on form.

  44. Belle Vue 2 man team Bewley and Kurtz. The rest of the team are pony.

  45. Agreed. Easily the best two teams away from home and do not rely on throttle jockeys.

  46. It’s only the Belle Vue fans who complain lol Hoping this will be the final … 2 closely matched teams and decent fans
    1 point
  47. Why? Appreciate we all have opinions, just interested in your reasoning for this. Belle Vue are simply not as good and by a margin. Of course it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they’d win over two legs, but it will be an upset and against all logical reasoning if they did so with two full strength teams. If Ipswich lose to Belle Vue in the semi final and we are at full strength, then we’ve choked IMO and failed badly as a team.

  48. Would have been nice to see what Drabik could have done at GP level. He's been really fast in both Poland and Sweden. However as mentioned above Wild Cards are very club political in Poland and a wc from another club would have been unthinkable.

  49. What's the point in having a successful national team if you're not going to use that for the betterment of the sport in your own country? The way things stand at the moment with the non appearance of Team GB... in GB, are that they are just entries in the history books.
