  1. A trick is missed every year. The first two weekends of the season should be a 4TT with Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berwick and Workington. Get big crowds in and some semi competitive racing before the real business starts. East Coast one weekend, Edinburgh Friday & Berwick Saturday then Glasgow and Worky the other.

  2. It’s a decent side, not title winners but solid. Let’s face it, we would all rather have them in the league than not so I’m glad they have a decent team. A lot of Ipswich fans have already said they will be there for the opening meeting so solid crowds is what a new club requires. More positivity than negativity, a nice stadium, good track and a good time out. Good luck Northampton 👊🏻

  3. Pleased to see Luke Harrison in there, liked what we saw from him last season and exactly the kind of rider that the RS system is about.

  4. Batchelor ?. Thoughts with the good people at Northampton Speedway at this difficult time.

  5. I don’t particularly follow the sport that closely in this country since I don’t have a team to support anymore but its remarkable how we are at the point we are at with teams closing yet when a new one arrives people still can only find the negatives. They’ve done a fantastic job building that team in the timeframes they have been working to, hopefully it’s a success.

  6. But for this to happen British speedway has got to get it's house in order, clubs to give intention to run etc by the end of August, so these top riders can sign up and know where they are potentially gonna ride at in 2027, before they commit to other leagues

  7. Promoters have a long history of working together for the greater good, putting aside any differences to ensure the right outcome. I'm sure it'll go just perfectly...

  8. Well done Glasgow and the riders. An excellent meeting with some great races. Nothing better than watching good riders go at it.

  9. You are ‘flogging a dead horse’ pointing out the obvious and unfortunately the real opportunity to invoke a change came after Covid yet for some unfathomable reason it was a case of ‘as you were’. I am not sure where the sport needs to go to find new impetus but to attract a new audience it needs to embrace technology and start entertaining. It is an exciting form of entertainment that could hit the right notes if marketed but that is probably expecting too much given the governing body. With the cost of living crisis determining the consumer/punter spending it really needs to adapt asap and offer a lot more than a bland format that only diehards appreciate.

  10. Who is Jaimon Lidsey going to talk to in the pits? The rest of the top 5 have a combined age of 160.

  11. Not sure what anyone else expects other than to be competing in the bottom two, late to the tapes so to speak, all done last minute, the track isn't complete, no real home advantage once tapes do go up, Northampton is very much up against it before a green light goes on but, if they can offer entertainment, can get the name out there, and survive into 2027 who knows... I'll certainly try and make one night this season and take my old man, but really do hope it works out for them, hopefully win a few meetings if they do then congratulations to them as its literally backs to the walls stuff already

  12. Sadly, the incumbents running the sport were firmly never going to change given they were more than happy with their lot... So Adrian, like so many progressive thinkers before him, who were also willing to lead change, decided it was a waste of their time and talents... So many see potential in the sport if the ludicrous operating model was basically ripped up and started again... Just imagine if you launched a brand new team sport today and used the UK Speedway operating model and buinsess plan? (Spoiler Alert). You wouldn't be a success... Because, clearly, and obviously, it isn't fit for purpose within a (bona fide) team sport framework... Some see their businesses as stand alone entities that need to pay mortgages, and some only see a hobby which let's them enjoy a tiny modicum of recognition for their position, and a summer of "evenings out at the Speedway"... Anyone with the leadership skills of vision, drive, and ambition, will always struggle to overcome a majority who possess none of those attributes...

  16. Yeah I saw that, but impressive for someone who is a lot older than Kurtz jack and Bewley (the top boys). Disappointed about the lack of racing though, thought this track was the best in the country 👀

  17. I once did a Good Friday of King's Lynn, Ippo, Arena & Peterborough and every single one was rained off lol... and we were in the car park for each one when it was called off... happy days, it was all part of the fun though (maybe not at the time) 😂 To have a 450 mile void of speedway on a bank holiday though is inexplicable 🤷‍♂️

  18. Yep and back in the day meetings were held morning afternoon and evening with some real derby matches. As a Hackney supporter in those days I remember travelling to Ipswich in the morning and the return at Hackney in the evening. At Rayleigh you had a morning meeting followed by a return over the weekend with either Canterbury, Eastbourne or Boston. Today you have so few teams you cannot even have a regular weekly meeting and as a sport which should be thriving in the summer months you end up with a calendar devoid of meetings when support should be flocking to tracks and today the lack of ability to capitalise on those months when the sport should be attracting punters is consigned to history. Sadly it is a pale shadow of what used to be such a great bank holiday extravaganza.

  19. Craig is a type of rider who in the past had done only a little bit of practice, bit like batch 😀 hearing Craig has lost a bit of weight, so good to go, will be fighting Jonas for the number 1 position 😀

  20. The only problem I see with that idea is, it's not giving all the sides riders some "semi-competitive" rides. Each team would have to have two riders sitting out each "round". Other than that it's a cracking idea.

  21. I hope to get there this season and in reality as a new venture being competitve at home is key for them. Its nice to see the plans at least getting put in place.

  24. What a strange takeaway from my post... I'm a paying customer along with thousands of others with £25 burning a hole in my wallet on what used to be one of the busiest days in the speedway calendar and am left with a choice of Poole or Edinburgh... or spend my money on something else. Enjoy your Good Friday meeting, hope it stays dry for you 👍🏻

  25. You are well aware and you've been very active. So why question? Why doubt? Why mire in the demise of speedway. Looks like you absolutely love it, cant fix it and never lend a hand but always online to want for more despite giving less. Aye but you bought a season ticket.....yet put down and question everything else. Get yourself involved Ian, change the dynamics of meetings, be more than a worthless typist on the Internet. You won't, you aren't.

  26. Kevin certainly doesnt get put off by less than perfect track conditions due to weather. The lad can certainly gate, ride slick or grippy, can ride a tight inside line and when pushed to the outside isnt fazed either. Extremely professional approach , fantastic determination and looks like a great signing for Glasgow after outshining several heat leaders who know Ashfiled like the back of their hand.

  27. All tracks can serve up dull meetings even the best ones like the NSS especially early in the season. You’ll get more entertaining ones than dull ones around there though over the course of the season.

  28. That's the challenge the Pirates Promotion have to face as they only rent the stadium from Gaming International who lease the stadium from the Council.

  30. In Poland SGP will be live on HBO platform and today there was pretty important news that they will also cover it live on Eurosport 3. I guess it is pretty much the same in UK, as HBO have SGP TV rights and I'm pretty sure they will sell them in some kind of extra package (in Poland it is called HBO Sport with extra subscription).

  31. To paraphrase the usual answer when you mention Speedway to someone in a town that has their own team.... "Speedway? Is that still starting?"...

  33. I think Tate is one of them confidance riders but with injuries and getting constantly beat up rising for Belle Vue this knocks his form and with Belle Vue can see that continuing this season also unfortunately. Should have just stuck to the championship for a while building his confidance up. On a side note has anyone seen Craig Cook on a speedway bike since he signed ? Seen hin on a mountain bike and a motorcross bike but not a speedway one.

  34. Are you not in Bournemouth then

  35. There is definitely a certain something in those fans who still attend regularly "getting the sport they deserve"... They have happily colluded with promoters, as the numbers dwindled on the terraces around them, in pretending that UK Speedway is a bona fide team sport, and, being quite happy to take advantage of the latest Mickey Mouse ruling on a (deliberately I presume), ambiguous regulation.. When you are being endorsed by "just enough" people, then you may feel you have a mandate to carry on... I presume some are maybe looking for change now as possibly this season, given the nonsense of the winter, may mean that there are no longer "just enough", and even the "die hards" are questioning their role in the process......

  37. The plan is to have 2027 sorted by the end of June this year.... The more sceptical, given the track record of those in charge, may not quite believe it, however, let's hope for a "new start"....

  42. While I respect the views of the 'good old days' brigade I think we are way past the point where random bikes and kevlars for team mates are acceptable or appropriate for our sport or any other which claims to be professional. British speedway gets plenty of things wrong but the correct team image is vital with social media, live streaming/TV and merchandise sales etc. Can't think of any other team sport where a side looks like waifs and strays and doesn't all wear the same kit.

  46. I’ve now had chance to listen to the chat with FB with his explanations. It was good that he had an opportunity to put his point of view. I guess we’ll never really know one way or the other who was right and wrong. Thought he seemed quite an intense character. Think the Poole management will need to work closely with him to maximise his potential however being uk based should help. As with every Pirates rider, if they don’t fulfil their allocated role, Matt won’t hesitate to take action - even more so now that he’s back on the scene full time.

  48. I'm from Northampton but my expectations are low. As long as they get the bikes in front of a crowd at both Franklin's Gardens and Sixfields, and have something in the Market Square a couple of Saturdays before, they should be alright. There's something to be said for THIS IS HAPPENING VERY SOON! rather than THIS IS HAPPENING WEEKS AWAY, PLEASE MAINTAIN YOUR EXCITEMENT! However, people often make choices about where to spend their money in advance. I'm just happy to have a local track again.
