Update on former Berwick rider Connor Coles posted on social media today. Lovely news from Kirsty Coles about Connor A little update on Connor Connor has now been transferred from Stoke to Derby and has officially started neurological rehabilitation in a specialist centre. Although there is still a long recovery journey ahead, this week has brought some really positive steps forward. Connor is becoming much more aware and engaged, communicating more, remembering conversations and slowly getting more like himself each day. He is now eating food orally again with thickened drinks, has started rehab exercises including the exercise bike, and is walking short distances with support and a frame. Seeing these small milestones after everything he has been through has meant so much to us all. There are still many challenges ahead with speech, swallowing, fatigue and weakness down his left side, and recovery will take time, but we finally feel like Connor is taking important steps in the right direction. Thank you again to everyone for all the continued love, support, messages and kindness shown to Connor and our family7 points

Sandwell council with government money is planning a new wheels type project like they had at Birmingham wheels which was sucessful in getting kids of the streets for 40years until corporate money got it’s way, anyway they want a motox track and other wheels facility’s along with maybe workshops to learn kids the basics of the bikes/cars or whatever they ride/drive, anyway speedway was not mentioned in the initial plans but now speedway has had some meetings with Sandwell and they are keen to get it involved, what is encouraging is the government and the council finally seem to understand things like wheels project are needed and are keen to see it go ahead, fingers crossed. Just like to add that the governing body of speedway are not involved in any way because quite frankly they are useless4 points

Each to their own, I'm not complaining about it but it was just getting a little too much for me, hopefully now sorted for me.4 points

Should run a NL team, especially for a club that puts effort into the under age categories.4 points

I feel incredibly sorry for the family of Redcar supporters that I just bumped in to on the retail park in Berwick at teatime.3 points

Personally I thought it hard on young Harry Sadler to take him out of his last ride with the match and bonus point already won, the lad tried his heart out for us in heat 83 points

A good example of the system working was Derick Snedden, criminal in his youth taken to Linlithgow track by the police to see if they could rehabilitate him, went on to have a fairly long career in speedway3 points

Look at the positive, you can all watch the Eurovision Song Contest now.😂 On a serious note though, looking at the team that Oxford took to Edinburgh last night, the meeting would have been a non event with no value for money.3 points

No wonder crowds are down, people just find other things to do or get out the habit3 points

If he was on average watch why did he pass Mario in heat 1 when he had no chance of winning the race. He would have got paid the same with a bonus point and could have also advised Mario after the race where he was going wrong, having followed him around.3 points

Clubs all doing this these days Can appreciate dont want costly late call off but it getting a bit much3 points

Something I always see in zmarzlik is his body language and he is like a kid who has won his first ever race, once he crossed that finish line he was bouncing on his footrests (which are gold incase you didn’t notice ) you can see the buzz he gets from winning, you would think he would be used to it by now but clearly every race is the same buzz as his first2 points

It was wrong on Updates. Not sure why as Harris passed Hausl and was a fair distance ahead of him at the finish.2 points

Rain is forecast for next Saturday for around 5pm, so no chance of a meeting. https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/26558192 points

This morning was lovely, during the afternoon it did cloud over and over the last half hour we`ve had very light drizzle, but I believe with suitable track prep, this meeting could've at least been given a go and with a bit of cooperation from the teams and riders pushed through to some kind of conclusion. But the damage is done now, next time Berwick are riding at home, and there is rain in the forecast, the chances of the meeting going ahead must be in question.2 points

Plymouth meeting starts in 10 minutes Palm Toft's first ride will be on about 30 minutes so probably then.2 points

It's as R&R said. Top 2 to final then 3-6 run off for last 2 spots.2 points

Poole are going to run away with everything particularly having these 2 great youngsters at reserve , Redcar on the other hand are poor this season in contrast to last season , will struggle to make those play offs. Only Jake Allan came out with any credit, Klindt was poor and Jenkins is a passenger , also Edwards needs to now start stepping up.2 points

From Fraser Bowes 𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀 Hi everyone, I thought I’d jump on and explain why I haven’t been at the last two matches this week. On Tuesday, while fitting a new engine, I was struck directly in the eye by an exhaust spring under load. I was taken to the eye emergency department at Bournemouth Hospital, where I was diagnosed with a deep traumatic corneal abrasion. The injury has left me with a bloodshot eye that is light sensitive and has been causing headaches. At the moment, all I can really do is rest, but there are improvements each day. I’m aiming to be back for Wednesday’s match against Oxford, and I can’t thank Ian and Nicola Bell enough for all their help and support during this situation.2 points

I deliberately made no reference to him in my post knowing someone would. Inevitably if you engage with people from troubled backgrounds or with mental health issues you'll be witness to unacceptable behaviour as none of these types of programme are 100% successful. Wouldn't it be nice if someone like Garrity (there are others who have also been troubled) could give something back to the sport and society by trying to help some kids who are on the wrong path? I dare say it would be good for him/them, good for the sport, good for the kids, good for society. Or you can just be like GB News and catastrophise the negative. Live in fear or live in hope.2 points

I think that would make things far worse, could replace the weakest with the strongest, i.e replacing Kildemand with Lawson or Masters, replacing Mountain with Howarth or Craig Cook, replacing Spencer with Cairns or Battye (before injury). I personally don't think having to use weaker guests is an issue, in every sport injuries can make a team weaker, I don't know why Speedway fans & promoters expect otherwise? Plus any rule that allows teams to be stronger through injuries by the use of guests discourages looking for replacements. One change I would make is opening up the guest rule to include riders not currently racing in GB. For example Lambert, Bowtell & Morley can guest because they have NL teams, if they didn't they wouldn't be allowed, when surely it should be preferred that unattached riders get picked first?2 points

I think they should loosen the rules around the average game, especially when coming to replacing injured or unavailable riders. Maybe a reserve can be replaced by ANY reserve, a second string by ANY second string, a heat leder by ANY heat leader, you may have to bring some form of control in around the heat leaders due to their scoring ability and the difference between 1's, 3's and 5's. In a "sport" that is more relient than ever on the guesting system, much like a lot of other things within Speedway, it is not really fit for purpose.2 points
-
Was literally just thinking the exact same thing! 👏 Maybe with the chronic shortage of riders currently it's time to look at the rules regarding team make-up with regards to replacing riders with injuries?2 points

The most positive news so far has come out today. Very good news arrived from the Poznań hospital on Friday morning. The process of waking Patryk Budniak from a medically induced coma has been completed. The Ultrapur Start Gniezno athlete is responsive to contact and responds with simple phrases. He faces further tests. 09:29 After a gruesome accident in Gniezno, Patryk Budniak underwent two very serious surgeries. The first involved his spine, and the second involved his lower limbs. On Thursday, the process of recovering from a medically induced coma began. On Friday morning, we received excellent news from the hospital. As we've determined, the recovery process is complete. The speedway rider responds with simple words. 09:30 The patient has been awoken from a medically induced coma. He is communicating with others. He responds with simple phrases. Remember, he was intubated, so he's communicating as best he can. He's still undergoing diagnostic testing, Zuzanna Pankros, spokesperson for the Poznań hospital, told us. "Regarding sensation, it has returned, but it's too early to say whether the patient will regain full mobility. A number of tests are necessary to determine this. The most important thing is that the recovery process has been completed and the patient is breathing on his own. His condition is not life-threatening. He's a young, strong boy. You can see he has the will to fight," adds our interviewee. 09:312 points

It’s imperative that the foxes start being competitive at home before they lose the crowds. Klint looks ill at ease on his new home track and Lidsey is not showing a lot of determination unless he makes the start. maybe Keynan Rew for klint as it’s a track shape he would master fairly quickly. Really need a Jason Doyle type signing2 points

Rumours Maria Whitaker will be at the ko cup final with an empty used pringles tub which will contain the names of the 14 riders in it. Maria will pull the riders out one by one and that will be the riding order on the night.1 point

I also think that if the sport is going to rely so heavily on the guest system then it needs some enforced buy in from the riders and instead of them picking and choosing if/when to ride some coercion should be placed on them to "be available" to guest. Plymouth weren't riding so Nicholls, King, Barker, Thompson and Spencer are UK based and were "available" to ride, yet only Tom Spencer was used. If you're part of the problem, then you should be part of the solution.1 point

Agree the system isn't fit for purpose. When teams are inadvertently penalised simply because a rider is unfortunate enough to get injured really isn't in the best interests of the sport. There is scope to increase the the headroom on averages certainly for reserve replacements especially when the number of suitably competitive replacements is so limited in British Speedway at the moment.1 point

Not your fault so nothing to apologise for and you together with Racers & Royals provide all us luddites with an excellent service and if it was not for the hard work of both of you we would not be getting a d3cent regular speedway fix. Cheers.1 point
