  1. Our team manager is Peter Schroeck. There was no fury as he probably thinks we won.

  2. Take a bow Freddy Hodder. I don’t think anyone seen that coming. Phenomenal performance

  3. Ahhh, if ever a post reflected a nickname...Respectfully that's rubbish. The impact on his confidence finishing that far back in every heat can't be good for him and he's 26! It's not like he's a teenager who is upcoming, I'd argue 26 is far too old to be classified as a rising star anyway. Can't fault Tom's efforts and his professionalism but at this time he's clearly not ready for this level of racing. Hopefully a focus on NL for him will help him potentially secure a Championship place in the future. As for his replacement Ben Whalley, it's a brave shout bringing in an NDL 2 point rider straight into the Championship even with the amount of points he's scored. Anyone know much about him from his Edinburgh form? Either way got to be worth a try!! Good luck to him.

  5. The track’s condition has been appalling for some time now and shows no improvement regardless of the weather. It’s always slick and dusty. Just a couple of seasons ago there was always an outside line and plenty of passing. Think Bomber, Scotty, Charles Wright and others; they were never off it. However Mitch’s performance last night demonstrated otherwise. I know we’re fortunate to have Speedway at Oxford but after what we’ve been used to it’s hard to justify standing around watching the guff that’s being served up now. Perhaps, as another poster suggested, they know the inevitable.

  6. I did laugh when schroek described the defeat at Workington as a good defeat. thought he was wrong to blame the reserves as he choose a top heavy team and the consequences of that is weaker reserves signing his mate Riss ,who for the fourth year running is unfortunately not able to ride due to his eye issues. Always a big risk especially as big hitting replacements are hard to find. thought the track was better than normal in respect of the dust but it seems the watering equipment is far from adequate.

  7. Awful from Oxford, what on earth was that track all about? Tracks been poor all season for me. Without Riss we have no second heat leader, Rowe is barely contributing 3rd heat leader scores, meaning McDiarmid is riding out of position. Fair play to Glasgow, a deserved victory, a great night for Hodder but any home team should not be letting an away reserve averaging under 3 to go unbeaten.

  8. Fair play to the Ipswich promotion, they now provide audio for the streaming service before the meeting and some of the interviews during the meeting to those at the track. And on the big screen of course.

  9. As someone who regularly attends Oxford but no allegiance (my past supported clubs closed) the track has been disappointing this season and will impact my decision in whether I will attend future meetings. I won't stop going, but may attend less as it's a fair way to go to watch 4 riders going around in dust with no racing.

  10. As a Southampton supporter Lisa I thought you'd be watching the football from behind a tree!!(sorry)

  11. That’s positive, but unless they sort out the track issues and, by consequence, improve the racing, they’ll continue to lose support, as is becoming more evident every week.

  12. My first visit this year, and once again disappointed with the lack of any passing once the first lap had been completed. I note some complaining about the lack of a racing line out wide, which Bomber's poor score would seem to validate. What I noticed last season on the couple of occasions I visited was how dominant gates 1 and 3 were in comparison to 2&4, and it was sadly true again tonight. 1 &3 had 11 of the race winners, and scored 59-31 overall. Gate four scored 9 points all evening! That can't be conducive to producing good racing when there is such an imbalance. Even the best rider on show, Sam Masters dropped his only points when out of 2 or 4. There is some banking, yet there doesn't seem to be any advantage going out wide, as Mitch McDiamid found out. Is that down to track prep? Was it too slick? I had read that they had had a delivery of shale recently, so was expecting some good racing. I used to rate the track, but recent visits have disappointed. A great shame, given all the effort at such a superb venue.

  13. Presumably if Poole had won last night it would have been a terrific performance with a big well done to the reserves.

  16. BSN didn’t cover themselves in glory much either when they moaned about people complaining about the track being dusty. You could see from race one this was not going to be good, and why they sent the tractor out I have no idea, there was nothing to grade.

  19. Can McDiarmid not ride the inside of the track? He spent most of the meeting scraping the fence and not once did it work, while everybody rising the inside of him were disappearing off into the distance.

  20. Kemp is a really good signing, suits our track for sure. He can be very fast on his day. Scored 12 points last season at Northside from the No.1 position. Glad he's been snapped up and in the side for this weekend. Averaged 8.57 when riding in the No.1 position last season, so obviously has the ability, he kicked on massively over the last 2 seasons. I would move Kemp to No.5 and have Batchelor ride at No.3 with Tate, but that's just my opinion.

  21. I completely disagree. If anything, signing Drew Kemp brings in a far better calibre of rider for where the Comets are at right now. For a start, Kemp doesn't come with a history of not turning up or pulling out at the eleventh hour. Cook has had chance after chance at various tracks, and the unpredictability just drains a team. Workington are completely correct in wanting to give the paying public a reliable, committed 1-to-7 on the track each week. Kemp works hard, and he puts the laps in. Reliability and commitment is far better than sporadic talent in a team sport. This is definitely not a write-off.

  23. I do wish the Ipswich riders would do a lap of honour on the stock car track if they win a heat and most definitely when we get a 5-1. It costs nothing and the crowd appreciates it. lynn looked poor and I cannot see them making the playoffs

  25. If you get chance to see this meeting from 2019, it was ever so slick and I'll still say this was the best GP ever. Couldn't believe what I was witnessing. Last year was pretty good too. Shame i won't be there on Saturday.

  28. Fair point but not many of those "countless others" are riding a lethal machine capable of causing injury and even death. How would you feel if you found out the person driving the train you're on has mental illness? Or anyone driving cars on the same stretch of road as yourself? Your answer would probably involve the degree of severity and its actual effect on the person as to his/her ability to safely carry out those things. And the opinion of qualified medics, and that of employers. It's a matter of context and circumstances

  31. I think you will find that this is the landlords and developers fault... Or the promoters of the 70's who used to take their money out of the stadia in a wheelbarrow and didn't purchase the stadiums they raced in..... Oh, and Poland obviously...

  33. Shouldn't be allowed. Rising star needs brought into Championship and you shouldn't be allowed to drop them. Tom Spencer is a young rider, who can ride at champ level, but needed time to develop. Poor by Plymouth here.

  34. And while we have King, Lawson, Wright and Harris they have Berntzon, Thorssell, Nilsson and Lahti. Currently the best Swedes under 30 are probably Filip Hjelmland (27) and Rasmus Karlsson (18). The latter is a real prospect but elsewhere talent is thin on the ground.

  36. Also about who actually honours those cheques, look at Rowe at same club as Pickering owed around £20k so far this season. Vast majority of riders who race over there get nowhere near what they’ve been promised in their contracts

  39. NORTHAMPTON: Jaimon Lidsey, Troy Batchelor, Jonas Jeppesen, Lewis Kerr, Nicolai Klindt, Kye Thomson, Luke Harrison. SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Anders Rowe, Chris Holder, Leon Flint, Josh Pickering R/R, Jye Etheridge, Luke Killeen. Sheffield are "without skipper Josh Pickering who is required to fulfil recently picked up Polish League commitments." Captain fantastic 👏

  43. Clear to see these Comics don’t deserve a rider like Drew Kemp. Topped Jeppesen, Morris and Kildemand in the Berwick averages, always there, always giving 100% for the 2 years at Berwick, higher Prem rolling average than Howarth, Rowe, Morris, Kildemand, Jeppesen, Blodorn, Batchelor, Castagna in Premiership.

  44. It's a good thing kemp will be slotting in as a second/third heat leader then. Although didn’t he keep kildemand and Jeppesen out of the number 1 berth at Berwick last season?

  47. Deanno is the kind of guy that the powers that be should be listening to, but i suspect he says it as it is, something the BSPL frowns upon as they prefer to be the secret society rather than what they should be which is the Promoters of this sport which has been allowed to run down for as long as i can remember.

  48. What a shame. I wonder if this is the end for him now. He had decided to quit last season prior to Bainesy talking him into another go. He's still a top rider. Going off his performances this season so far, he would've been one of the best number 1s in the league if his head was in the right spot. Hope he gets himself in a good place soon.

  50. Whilst I agree with some of the comments highlighting the financial implications of screening these meetings and the fact that clearly Mayfield Sports can't afford, or don't want to spend the necessary sums to show them, there are in my opinion some anomalies in all of this, and indeed in the way the whole series has been promoted over the past few years. Firstly let's examine WBD, who proclaimed endlessly we were entering a "new era" of speedway. This crowd then gave control of the whole thing to a bunch of people who had very little, if any, knowledge of the sport. Incredibly they created a rolling package whereby considerably more than 100 people (honestly!) were transported around Europe for each SGP. The costs of this must have been enormous! Not only that, but they then tried to "Formula 1ise" the world championship by creating the most ridiculous system of running in front of empty stadiums for what was essentially practice, and made it even more ridiculous by then dishing out world championship points to the riders who got to the final 4 man race of the practice, again in front of empty stadiums. You couldn't make this utter nonsense up!! As if that wasn't enough they introduced drones and steadfastly refused to change this introduction when many fans complained bitterly that it interfered with their TV viewing. TV viewing that was proving to be costly and expensive. Their 10 year master plan quickly fell apart and they panicked and pressed the eject button to escape at the half way stage through their get-out clause. But before we leave them, let's not forget that they also made the whole series harder than ever to access, with difficult to find channels and live events hidden away in expensive pay per view places. It was an unknown-to-speedway fans company that out of the blue stepped in. Mayfield Sports. Most of us had no idea who they actually were. Now, we are only two SGPs in, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt as to what we are going to experience as we go forward. But the early signs as we have seen are slightly alarming. I was pleased to see the drones had gone. Firstly I imagined that was a decision based on customer feedback but now I suspect it's financially based and is a cost cutter. The fact that many SGP events are now 2 day events with meetings the day before suggests another attempt to close down the costs . Nothing actually wrong with that and actually it's sensible when you think about it. But, here's where it begins to unravel. This ditching of the screening of SoN2, SGP2 and SGP3 came out of nowhere and has, understandably, left lots of people unhappy. And it seems clear that Mayfield had no intention of telling folk beforehand. Until they were forced to. That's not good business sense. There's also been the reduction in prize money for the riders, which did come out pre season. So it seems we are now looking at a shoestring production, at least compared to previously. Richard Coleman claims he needs to get the SGP series itself right first, which is commendable, but let's put our hands on our hearts and ask ourselves seriously if you believe he will later extend things to what they were previously? And here's where I want to ask the question. Why didn't the FIM think about giving the whole series to Poland to promote? I'm pretty sure OneSport, organisers of the SEC series, have previously wanted to take it on, but were rejected. I have to ask the question, why? Poland leads everything in speedway. It's professional in every way at a level that no other country can match. Its weekly televised productions from Canal Sport and previously Eleven Sports are beautifully put together events that run to time, are superbly slick and professional and clearly there is a large pot of money to do things the way they should be done. Now, I completely understand that perhaps no Polish company came forward to promote, but I have to ask, were they actually asked? And if not, why not? To hell with FIM prejudices against the Poles, which clearly exist as Poland has long complained bitterly that they have to fork out more than other nations to stage SGP rounds. The FIM should, in my opinion, be begging OneSport or any other Polish TV company that will, to take this series by the scruff of the neck and promote it PROPERLY. Speedway is in a mess. Everyone knows that. Even Polish promoters and owners of clubs I've spoken with over the past couple of years are worried that their product is attracting less young people than previously. But, if we want to see our beloved sport, the sport where racing can be utterly spectacular and beautiful, be able to succeed, we have to market and promote it properly. And that includes promoting and televising the youngest and younger racers at world level too. If Mayfield Sports don't have the will, or the money to do that properly they should either change their business plan, or get out quick and be replaced by a company from Poland that can do it properly. It's the only way I see our world championship events remaining a serious TV proposition.
