Hi everyone, apologies, but it's a bit of a call to arms and we are asking the speedway community to help us on the current Birmingham Local Plan. So Birmingham Council have issued for consultation "The Birmingham Local Plan Regulation 19 Publication Plan" which closes 24th September 2026 This plan is designed to hit their housing targets for the next 18 years. In that plan is Policy GZ14, within that policy is paragraph 19.10. This paragraph references the the demolition of Perry Barr Stadium. It states "Efforts are being made to develop replacement speedway provision at an alternative venue" and "The long term lease holder is exploring options for the future of the site". This isn't water tight enough to keep Birmingham Speedway. We need to stop this plot of land being made available for redevelopment in housing. This is where we are begging for your help. We need to get the wording changed in Policy GZ14 19.10 and unfortunately they don't have an email facility, it needs to be through the Birmingham Council Consultation Portal. Portal found here: https://consult.birmingham.gov.uk/kse/ So, when you have a spare couple of hours, it's easier on a lap top, a phone can be a bit more clunky (not impossible) using the portal. Click the link above Click "Go to Event" on the Birmingham Local Plan Regulation 19 Publication Plan. This will open a 180 page document. There will be lots of add comments on the right hand side. If on a mobile press the word "Proposal" to view the document and not the headings. Press on of the "Add Comments" and register on the protal. Once registered it'll take you back to the document. You can either scroll down very laboriously until you get to GZ14 and within that section the paragraph 19.10 If on a mobile you could look for "Perry Barr" in the contents and click the ">" icon, to zoom to GZ14. Dont press anything else, you come out of the document and have to re-press go to event again. If on a laptop press the word Perry Barr, not the ">" as again it'll push you out of the document, it really is that user friendly. Look for the paragraph 19.10 and click add comment, one the next screen the paragraph contents should be displayed at the top. Populate your Name, Email, Commenting on behalf of myself, agree to the terms and conditions, agree to the private policy. Press "Next" First Box, Do you considered the plan to be legally compliant. "Click Yes". Second Box, Sound. "Select No". Please provide details of why you consider the local plan is not legally compliant or is unsound. Here you need to add something like "in GZ14 19.10 you must not develop Perry Barr Stadium to anything other than a venue or facility for the Birmingham Brummies to race speedway". Next box is Please set out the modifications you consider necessary......... Here you need to add something on the lines of "Perry Barr Stadium must not be redeveloped unless an alternative venue or land is found, and Birmingham Speedway are using that alternative venue to race speedway. Next select no to participate Select Save Then press submit Thanks for reading! To help this was a draft google ai prepared for me, you could draw inspiration from it. I am writing to formally object to the proposed site allocation of Perry Barr Stadium for housing development within the Birmingham Local Plan Regulation 19 Publication Plan. The plan as currently drafted is not sound because it fails the tests of being justified and consistent with national policy regarding the protection and replacement of community sporting infrastructure. · No Evidence of Surplus: The historic Perry Barr Stadium—a vital community hub hosting the Birmingham Brummies Speedway alongside other sports—is demonstrably not surplus to requirements. It remained highly utilized, and there is clear, ongoing demand for speedway racing in the city. · No Equivalent or Concrete Replacement Provided: The wording in the Publication Plan explicitly states that "Efforts are currently being made to develop replacement Speedway provision at an alternative venue." This is an admission that no replacement venue has been identified, secured, or evaluated for viability. The Allocation is Not "Justified" Relying on an aspirational statement that "efforts are being made" does not constitute robust evidence. Allowing the allocation to go forward without a legally binding, identified, and allocated replacement site creates an unacceptable risk that a major regional sport and heritage asset will be permanently lost to Birmingham without any alternative ever materialising. It fails to guarantee the continuity of social and sports infrastructure required to sustain healthy, vibrant communities. 5. Please set out what modification(s) you consider necessary to make the Local Plan legally compliant or sound. To make the Birmingham Local Plan sound and consistent with national policy, the following modifications are necessary: 1. De-allocate or Defer Development: Remove the housing allocation for the Perry Barr Stadium site from the current Local Plan period, OR defer its allocation until a comprehensive, legally binding alternative site for Speedway provision is explicitly identified, assessed for viability, and formally allocated within the plan. 2. Strengthen Policy Safeguards: Amend the policy wording to explicitly state that “No development shall commence on the Perry Barr Stadium site until a replacement Speedway facility of equivalent or better quality has been fully delivered and made operational at an alternative, approved location.” This brings the plan into compliance with Paragraph 103 of the NPPF.4 points

I saw the vid of him playing with his son on social media and it didn’t look good at all. His hand was effectively just hanging there. And then watching his interview on BSN last night was pretty upsetting I have to say. He was very honest and very emotional because there is a possibility that this could end up being the worst case scenario. We all hope that isn’t the case and that the surgery that will more than likely be needed is successful. 🙏🏻4 points

Jye is a classless punk for having two riders off and not checking on them or at least apologising, i mean for christ sake, he is supposed to be team mates with Jordon at Berwick.2 points

The main impact would be to demonstrate what a bunch of childish whingers many team managers are.2 points

Everything crossed for the lad both for himself from a general health point of view and the sport also can ill afford to lose a young top ten world class rider.2 points

Might just be worth it anyway for the second half on vintage machines. Plenty going on for the 75th anniversary https://ipswichwitches.co/iconic-machines-return-for-blast-from-the-past-second-half-at-foxhall/ Might not be your thing I don’t know, but I think it’ll attract quite a few who haven’t been in recent times/years.1 point

The exemptions are Wessex Water exemptions. It's all on their website. We had a brief shower at around 11.20 this morning which didn't last too long. In fact it was so brief I thought it must have been Worky come to visit!🤣1 point

In view of the rain being forecast, it should have been tapes up at 7.30 ( not rider introductions), and get on with it a bit quicker. Owner's may have saved on wages, but I am now considering not going to the Belle Vue match. I pay to watch speedway, not for the introductions. How many others feel the same? Could have been an interesting finish. Could Sheffield have got the aggregate point? Could there have been a superheat for the aggregate point?. Could Kings Lynn have got a draw. We'll never know.1 point

Unfortunate the rain came as it had been a decent meeting up to that point, certainly far more entertaining than the one between these two last month. Difficult to understand just how anyone could come to the decision to exclude Cook, would have been a shocker even without the benefit of replays.1 point

Why not give the BEN fund the money the teams saved not forking out for Heat 15?..1 point

Mitch rode a blinder when he was there a couple of weeks ago - 14 points with 4 wins. Didn't have a lot to beat mind but saw off Kerr, Cairns & the new hero.1 point

Thought the referee made a shocker of a decision.Im not sure it was Craig Ackroyd making that,it was more like Dan Ackroyd.1 point

Having watched last nights incident, you have to say, it was a "strange" decision.... One rider changed his line, and one didn't... With the one changing his line riding into the one who didn't... With the one changing his line, and riding into the one who didn't, NOT getting excluded!!1 point

2 more home meetings to go and if they can win 1 or maybe both then the Foxes will end up well into double figures for points which will have been a decent first season - something to build on anyway.1 point

Seem recall hearing that previous promoter Neil Machin wanted to do this, but was refused permission from Stadium owners.1 point

Track was bone dry, they could have waited a while and graded it again once it stopped, or is it like I said, riders are no longer interested unless it’s a dust bowl?1 point

You can still be pleased for Northampton winning while also being concerned for the two riders welfare1 point

Just played catchup and the decision to exclude Cook was appalling! Where on earth is he meant to go when Etheridge was locked up and out of control? Ref completely bonkers decision and did Etheridge even bother to come over and apologise to Cook after he caused the smash that wrecked a bike?1 point

Today officially announced that only a U21 Polish rider can take the position of 8/16.1 point

They don't need a hosepipe ban in Workington, the track gets plenty of water from all the tears every week.1 point

Yep, shortchange the punters by a heat and expect them to tip up more of their hard earned for the Ben Fund, typical British speedway. To clarify, was the correct decision to call it off but could so easily have been avoided with a little foresight.1 point
-
Is that honestly the best rider they could get? No disrespect to Mitch but he’s a number 7 on a 3.00 average replacing a heat leader. I’ll save my £22 this week I think as this will easily be another 60 points for the Pirates1 point

As a neutral.. Ben Cook being excluded is perhaps the most dreadful ref decision of the season 🙈1 point

Terrestrial TV coverage can only boost those tracks trying to come back too... If their endeavors get some publicity during the programmes... Developers have played on the fact that the sport has been on a decline, so, anything that ITV endorses would automatically infer otherwise... One of the key strengths the sport has is, as daft as it sounds, it's pretty low starting point, meaning growth can be quick and very noticeable... One or two 2,000 plus crowds and all of a sudden the optics are very different...1 point

You can give feedback on the ITVX coverage here https://help.itv.com/support/tickets/new?ticket_form=viewer_services_-_let_us_know_your_feedback Select "Viewer services - let us know your feedback" and "Let us know which programme you are contacting us about" if you start typing "Speedway" it will come up, and you can leave your comments. Also I'm told it boosts the viewing figures if everyone logs into ITVX and just watches even for a few minutes1 point

Thought it was a decent advert for the sport, everyone played there part, Tatum, Allen, Emma, the riders....track was okay considering the weather we have had. Finished on time which will not of gone unnoticed by ITV. Racing wasn't to the high standard of Belle Vue but do you know what?!...I thought everything considered the sport portrayed itself very well. Fingers crossed ITV want a bit more of the sport, now wouldn't it be great if they covered part of the play offs.1 point
-
Rory Schlein was the star keeping eye contact with Emma and not looking down every now and then must have been very difficult! ITV may decide to cover the play off final if Arry can have a dickie bird with the right people. Triffic.1 point

To be honest though part of the lack of interaction is down to demographic of the crowd. desperately need to get some young blood in to the sport!1 point
-
What a shame that BSP decided to go cheap on the production too much views of the floor or random shots along with out of focus at times during racing. Replays are limited and slow to be processed They did all the hard work getting the platform but then decided to go with an internal production1 point

Hopefully the Tai Woffinden Testimonial will be a test run for those kind of meetings. With the field he could attract, I imagine there'll be a brilliant crowd. Another tick in the promotion's off-track column.1 point

If Northampton race next season (no reason why they won't), I think they should be allocated the British Final. Becoming pretty stale at BV and a new venue, next year at least, is required. Promote it big time with a Wednesday or Saturday meeting and I think it could be a big success.1 point

Redcar match now 3pm instead of 6 so no good for me as AFC Workington v Leek kicks off at 3pm. I told a few people that you could do a football/speedway double header as well.... Luckily I hadn't booked my hotel as the club hadn't replied to my message about the start time... Just shows you can't rely on a published fixture list these days when travelling any distance Maybe next season..1 point
