  1. I think to own a stadium you need a money tree, if Berwick council own the stadium and supporters hold the lease, the supporters have an affordable venture. How many millions would 10 years at Odsal cost do you think. 2000 spectators at £20 each isn’t making much profit per meeting.
  2. In the end, I may do. Thanks for the reminder.
  3. I would like to read Dave Mortons book - anyone want to sell or swop for either 1) Ivan Mauger-The Man Behind The Myth or 2) Barry Briggs-Wembley and Beyond, My Incredible Journey (and epic 486 pages). For me to buy the book must be in good condition. Swops would need to be in as good condition as mine - which are very good. Barry Briggs is an ex-library book and has protective cover. No folded corners in either. Ivan Mauger book has some great colour glossy photos.
  4. I found Ove Fundin Speedway Superstar a great read, also Wiggy - Simon Wigg in his own words, and Chris Morton - Until The Can Ran Out.
  5. Not that it really matters, but I can see 4 wearing masks in that photo. One a couple rows back and to the right of the guy in red you circled, then another guy a row further back and to the right of the guy I just mentioned. re councils having a say. Remember the tiers the government introduced last year, councils complained that they should have a say as they are closer to the ground and knew more about circumstances. I would think that’s where council involvement stems from.
  6. I don’t think Boris wants to move June 21st goal posts, but what he doesn’t want is the Indian variant, and other factors, running through the country. I reckon as the country opens up following May 17th reports from all quarters of England will be centred to the government for analysis, including reports from speedway stadiums. Factors going forward will include, IMO, what work and attitude have stadium management displayed, PLUS, as important, the attitude and compliance of spectators. It’s quiet clear that some spectators are not too concerned over going along with regulations and some will bend the rules, or more, at every opportunity. Sadly, some ardent speedway fans will refrain from attending a live meeting because they are concerned over their health, that they are not fully convinced attending live meeting would be a happy event for them. So if Boris does hold back on the June 21st relaxing, it will be motivated not only on the Indian variant, but also by what is happening in society “today”, including speedway meetings. So, if there is a delay of June 21 relaxing (and I hope there is’nt a delay), remember, what is happening in the country today will have had an effect.
  7. I think it was last year when the government was using tiers in “hotspots”, and local councils were saying they were closer to the ground and wanted a say on tiers using local knowledge. Now, as stadiums are opening up it’s the council, not the government, that know more about the stadium. Example, the government may say stadium may open to max 50% of total capacity, but it’s the council they will/should know that only, say, a third of the stadium is normally open to spectators. Overcrowding, lack of social distancing, could be the result. The council has a responsibility to look after the safety of the public. and as I understand it is a requirement a mask is worn (unless exempt) when entering and exiting a stadium.
  8. Good on you Bob at Herne Bay. Seems you wanting to go to see Speedway, but concerned about safeguards of your own health. Nothing wrong with that. You asking questions because comments had been made by some in attendance that made you concerned, now your going to get slagged off. That’s a pity.
  9. Well I am in Chester, maybe 25 miles west, we had some rain, not a lot, this morning but now blue skys. I would imagine would be similar but bit later time at BV. The track at BV is ok with rain like today’s. Will provide a good race track, just need the racers.
  10. Scottyfan doesn’t seem to know this.
  11. Start a new thread (Poole In Championship) in the correct section.
  12. The actual booking of tickets at any big event is usually handled by an independent company. They charge admin fees no matter whatever happens.
  13. I was simply replying to someone saying the more popular speedway gets the cheaper it should be able to access. I don’t think it works like that.
  14. If the seating plan doesnt open up I guess that means all seats available taken. Maybe wise to get booking for the Peterborough meeting end of May, 30th. Some sections of seating are filling up, and it seems only Section 4 on the back straight has standing availability. And if you want to see the first Colts match, grandstand seats on bend 4 are now few, easier pick for bend 1. And usually no standing on back straight for Colt matches.
  15. Funny how some think the more popular an item becomes the cheaper is should be. Try telling that to Bill Gates. Must have paid for the development of Microsoft Office many times over yet still sells the full suite at £300 plus. And what about Dyson with his vacuum cleaners. Who would have thought that today you could pay over £600 for a vacuum cleaner. Dyson is a self made millionaire, not reduced his pricing though. ManUtd/City/Chelsea/Arsenal etc, all very successful clubs, how much do they charge to see a live match? If speedway was to promote itself properly in line with modern day practices and picked up....that will take a massive investment, and the success of speedway would mean prices would go UP.....not down. In a few years time the norm could be £30 not £20. Of course, the progression needed would have to come from "out of the box" thinking.....plus a LOT of investment, not just in one club, but in the whole system....... speedway would need a Bernie Ecclestone or a Barry Hearn. There isnt many of that class about, and I reckon if there is then speedway is not a target they want be involved in.
  16. When supporters grumble because prices have increased this year, remember most clubs pulled in hardly any revenue last year, but still had fixed costs to pay. This year, I suspect attendance will be down at least initially. Some people will still have concerns over their own personal health, mixing with others. So numbers could be down because of that. Also, due to health concerns, the government has put into effect some measures to protect supporters. There will inevitably be a cost incurred by clubs. These costs will be passed on to supporters. So it’s pretty certain there would be an increase, but having said that, and taking BV as an example, you can still get into the stadium for £17 if you are a “concession” ie a senior citizen.
  17. You may be surprised by how many can manage keyboard skills and be able to book online. For example, I am 74, have a smartphone, tablet, laptop, and pc, and I am nothing unusual. I recall 30 years ago when computers became popular there were lots of schemes that provided “computer familiarisation” (training) courses, very often free or very low charge. Some, like my parents, couldn’t be bothered, whereas others took up the offer and become quiet good and since then gained the benefits from what computerisation can do
  18. Does worry me, with people wanting do do it "my way" instead of adhering what the authorities say. My concern is, there will be another wave of COVID, clamp down again, and the holiday the wife and I have in the UK being spoilt for second year running. This years holiday is booked for middle July, it is to Norfolk for a week, and when you go on holiday you put money into the local economy, they need it now more then ever. Hope idiots dont spoil it for everyone. If you cant do what is asked, then please dont go.
  19. I was simply defending the area around Belle Vue, that it is not a dump. My views on Cardiff as home for the British Gran Prix I have made known numerous occasions.
  20. I wasn’t suggesting fans “want to walk around houses”. I was making reference to your derogatory comment when you said Belle Vue is in a dump area.
  21. Perhaps Rocket87 should have said “Belle Vue can showcase speedway racing in a way Cardiff can only dream of”. That would be true. To say Belle Vue is in a dump area, I reckon more then a few local residents would have a lot to say about that. A lot of new housing development in the immediate area, with schools etc very close by to them (and the stadium).
  22. Re Odsal, does the geographic area support speedway? Bradford itself could be said to be predominantly Asian population. Leeds, as far as I know has not been a speedway area, Halifax has, but what support is there now for regular speedway. It’s no good having track but no regular supporters to finance it.
