  1. Funny how some think the more popular an item becomes the cheaper is should be. Try telling that to Bill Gates. Must have paid for the development of Microsoft Office many times over yet still sells the full suite at £300 plus. And what about Dyson with his vacuum cleaners. Who would have thought that today you could pay over £600 for a vacuum cleaner. Dyson is a self made millionaire, not reduced his pricing though. ManUtd/City/Chelsea/Arsenal etc, all very successful clubs, how much do they charge to see a live match? If speedway was to promote itself properly in line with modern day practices and picked up....that will take a massive investment, and the success of speedway would mean prices would go UP.....not down. In a few years time the norm could be £30 not £20. Of course, the progression needed would have to come from "out of the box" thinking.....plus a LOT of investment, not just in one club, but in the whole system....... speedway would need a Bernie Ecclestone or a Barry Hearn. There isnt many of that class about, and I reckon if there is then speedway is not a target they want be involved in.
  2. When supporters grumble because prices have increased this year, remember most clubs pulled in hardly any revenue last year, but still had fixed costs to pay. This year, I suspect attendance will be down at least initially. Some people will still have concerns over their own personal health, mixing with others. So numbers could be down because of that. Also, due to health concerns, the government has put into effect some measures to protect supporters. There will inevitably be a cost incurred by clubs. These costs will be passed on to supporters. So it’s pretty certain there would be an increase, but having said that, and taking BV as an example, you can still get into the stadium for £17 if you are a “concession” ie a senior citizen.
  3. You may be surprised by how many can manage keyboard skills and be able to book online. For example, I am 74, have a smartphone, tablet, laptop, and pc, and I am nothing unusual. I recall 30 years ago when computers became popular there were lots of schemes that provided “computer familiarisation” (training) courses, very often free or very low charge. Some, like my parents, couldn’t be bothered, whereas others took up the offer and become quiet good and since then gained the benefits from what computerisation can do
  4. Does worry me, with people wanting do do it "my way" instead of adhering what the authorities say. My concern is, there will be another wave of COVID, clamp down again, and the holiday the wife and I have in the UK being spoilt for second year running. This years holiday is booked for middle July, it is to Norfolk for a week, and when you go on holiday you put money into the local economy, they need it now more then ever. Hope idiots dont spoil it for everyone. If you cant do what is asked, then please dont go.
  5. I was simply defending the area around Belle Vue, that it is not a dump. My views on Cardiff as home for the British Gran Prix I have made known numerous occasions.
  6. I wasn’t suggesting fans “want to walk around houses”. I was making reference to your derogatory comment when you said Belle Vue is in a dump area.
  7. Perhaps Rocket87 should have said “Belle Vue can showcase speedway racing in a way Cardiff can only dream of”. That would be true. To say Belle Vue is in a dump area, I reckon more then a few local residents would have a lot to say about that. A lot of new housing development in the immediate area, with schools etc very close by to them (and the stadium).
  8. Re Odsal, does the geographic area support speedway? Bradford itself could be said to be predominantly Asian population. Leeds, as far as I know has not been a speedway area, Halifax has, but what support is there now for regular speedway. It’s no good having track but no regular supporters to finance it.
  9. Are you serious - speedway at Wembley! Pinch yourself and wake up! All us older ones have beautiful dreams, but they are not reality. Many years ago Speedway was kicked out of Wembley by football. I don’t think they going to disturb Wembley turf anytime soon. And actually, to be honest, not all the racing at Wembley was good, just like not all racing at Cardiff is good. Wembley, though, had an atmosphere like no other. But some posters recently have said they been to the new Wembley for a match and the atmosphere of old is not there - it’s like a railway station, one poster said. It’s been sanitised, it’s not there anymore. Cardiff has the magic of being in the centre of a major city, where sport is encouraged, it’s alive with everything to sustain it - hotels, shops, bars, parks, communication links, crowd capacity, weatherproofing. As much as many dislike the place.....it’s got a lot going for it that I don’t think any other place in place in Britain has at the moment, or I can see in the foreseeable future.
  10. But Wales is part of Britain, and it’s a British Gran Prix. Sorted.
  11. That worries me a bit. BTSport is not too expensive, I also with BT for superfast fibre, obviously I would think that stays with BT, but what will the new charge be and for what service. Will all come out in the wash, when "they" ready to let us know.
  12. So, you pay for the full sky sports package and within that you now get Eurosport. Might give it a try, even though I don’t have Sky sport.
  13. When did your contract start? I had Eurosport 1& 2 until my contract ended Jan 2021 and I had to start a new contract.
  14. Thanks Grachan, Thing is, I pay for BT Sport, but I only watch SpeedwayGP and MotoGP,1and2. Not interested in football, Rugby, boxing, cycling etc. So BT get enough out of my pension and can’t justify anymore. 2 year contract started this January, they wouldn’t do less then 2 year. I just hope by next year BT and Eurosport are friendly again and I will get SpeedwayGP on BT. Otherwise it is MotoGP only.
  15. I with BT sport so I get Speedway GP and Moto Gp, but they don’t do Eurosport this year. Any way of getting Euro sport without paying an arm and leg.
  16. Cardiff - It’s a meeting guaranteed.
  17. Seems to me it’s a big dream to think Odsal could be the venue for a world speedway Gp one off meeting in 2021, 2022 or any other year unless a lot of money is thrown at it. Who has got the money and the inclination to fulfill the dreams of a few fans.
  18. That is really sad news. Being in the Manchester league Mid-late 1960’s, I raced against Derek many times (losing the majority of them). A good team man who will have helped many younger riders to fulfil their ambitions, he was that sort of guy. A brilliant individual rider as well, must have won almost everything in his time. Any one know when Derek finally retired? Or did he.
  19. I seen some excellent races and good meetings at Cardiff, live and on tv. The atmosphere was up there with Wembley.
  20. I know it was popular last year with fans having 2 rounds Fri/Sat, but I can see that wasn’t favourable with all the riders. So, what I think should be happening is getting the individual rounds started earlier. That should have been pre planned as option 2. Two early dates now been cancelled, plan2 should have swung into action to cover, maybe not the exact same dates but fill the void maybe so there is a gp one weekend after another.
  21. Maybe o money to fund it without fans, maybe riders etc need to isolate going in and/or coming out of Germany. Just guessing, but 2 cancellations now.
  22. What’s the odds on 8 rounds in Poland, maybe behind closed doors. Europe has massive COVID problems.
  23. and I another one who doe not post, not done for a few months, in fact today is the first time I have spent more then a couple minutes, and that was the moto gp section. Not worth the hassle.
  24. Remember him riding for Belle Vue. A good clean rider who was populalr with the fans. Nothing written about him on Wikipedia - a chance there for someone who knows how to do it and with some knowledge of Gote.
