Even for 2026, Phil has been a great advocate for British Speedway Premiership and has done lots of work behind the scenes which most people simply do not see. Always knowing that his role of Chief executive wasn’t to continue this year due to lack of money He was instrumental in keeping Ipswich going including being part of a consortium that made an offer to keep it going if Mayfield deal had fallen through. Has also had a a lot to do with the opening of Northampton giving guidance of what was required to get Speedway running along with being involved in the negotiations with stadium owners and management . There has been some failures previously maybe the loss of TV deal being the greatest but he did explore various options but none could be got over the line for various reasons. It has not been helped by some promotions not backing him fully. He wanted to modernise the product to try to get in new fans and sponsors some of which cost money like for tv meetings having a set presentation team and DJ, Lights and fire cannons on centre field but certain promotions wouldn’t back this and could even be objective like refusing to move advertising A boards for tv meetings and not even keeping the league sponsorship ones clean. Phil was also key to a number of top names returning to the UK like Woofy , Janowski and Lindgren along with brokering deals for Lambert and Dudek to ride for clubs to then back down on the deals13 points

Unfortunately for UK speedway we are exposed to two types of promoter. 1. The professional. 2. The hobbyist. And let’s be clear, some regard themselves as professionals because they run businesses elsewhere but are in realty stuck in the mud hobbyists. What makes the matter worse is that there are more hobbyists promoters than professionals and thus they get to say what goes and what doesn’t. I live in (faint) hope that the time will come when the professionals get together and gain sufficient momentum/influence & money to go it alone. Because make no mistake the hobbyist are not (as they would like us to believe) keeping the sport going on a thriving basis, they are holding it to ransom and actively leading it to an eventual demise.4 points

"I am very unhappy today with the fella who is doing my double glazing installation. I asked him a few weeks ago if he could book today in his diary, but, instead, he told me that he had another job already booked elsewhere, and it was a bigger job, thus will earn him several times more than mine will, and that all the equipment needed has been bought, and the people having the work done have already paid a considerable down payment".... "He also added that the other job will last six months, with several other dates already agreed through to completion. So. He basically has told me what dates he can do if I want to use his services during that timeline"..... "I am very disappointed with his attitude"....4 points

Let's be honest no Poole fan will blame Lawson which i except but don't agree with but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing for sure putting Toby in hospital won the match for Poole, but the main thing is tobys wellbeing both physically and mentally of that I'm sure we can all agree.3 points

He made the clubs adhere to a schedule to speed meetings up with set grading breaks. Introduced the centre green clocks. Had the sponsors banners made up in the pits so every club looked the same. Brokered deals with riders to ride in the premiership. For the grand final he had a magnificent looking stage not made of three pallets. Pyrotechnics and flames. Spoke to save Coventry stadium and offered to buy Ipswich with his own money. Introduced the media day. but apart from that not much. now the sport is imploding and going backwards under the current regime3 points

It demonstrates again what untapped potential there is when so many people don't know what speedway is3 points

Forecast for Friday at Redcar looks good so far . Just hope I can find some extra money to buy some fuel to get over 😜. UTC 🏁3 points

We all know exactly who that is 🙄 Hint: The same promotion who couldn’t even be @rsed to have a press and practice session this year, instead will do the “team photo” at the first meeting. Unfortunately some promotions are a cancer to the sport in this country. They’re old, stuck in their ways, have no fresh ideas, and want to just get by every year by doing the absolute bare minimum. Until they’ve all retired or buggered off, nothing will change and neither will they let it. The ideas you’ve suggested Phil wanted to implement sound exactly like the ideas Mayfield have for the sport not just at Ipswich, but for British Speedway in general. But they’ll also find out soon enough that any ideas they have will fall on deaf ears and they’ll get absolutely nowhere with them. Would anyone be at all surprised if Mayfield went exactly the same way as Chris Louis in 12 months time? I wouldn’t.3 points

I’m sure this has been discussed many times before by more intelligent and better informed people than me, but with Tobias’s injury’s and a clip from Poland doing the rounds I’ve been wondering what can be done to stop safety fencing lifting? More and more often a rider or riders have an incident where the bike hits the fencing first and lifts it leaving the rider to go underneath and impacting with whatever is behind. My opinion is that attaching them to the concrete below the shale might make a difference. Possibly eyelets in the concrete to attach to? let’s be honest we all like a little off but people being hurt or worse is not what anyone wants to see.2 points

Nobody is to blame, just a racing incident. Always liked Tobi, he was liked by everyone at Poole, his injuries are horrific and we all hope his recovery goes well.2 points

Not a dead rubber... Three wins for Leicester and they will be in the final!! It's all very exciting...2 points

He doesnt blame him because Lewy is a liar. If you look at the footage Tobi moved out to stop Lawson's run round the outside.2 points

I saw that he didn’t ride in Poland recently too but Belle Vue on their website stated he isn’t riding due to being banned. Either way it is what it is I guess, and Brennan ironically now trying to knock out Leicester who he guested for last year and won the cup with, after riding for Ipswich and getting kocked out, confused? You will be 😂2 points

Not just stoney but Greg Blair too have that type of banter that you hear in vans on way to meeting and not that forced corporate polished speak you get on TNT, sky etc2 points

With respect to the youngsters that night, it’s night and day compared to what he’ll meet on Thursdays. Worlds apart. Rushen was beaten that night by Trigger, Loftus, and twice by Mulford who he didn’t look close to competing with. Let’s not forget Mulford has a Championship average over two points LESS than Ipswich #7 and rising star, Edwards, let alone a Swedish U21 Champion. That’s the scale of what he’ll be up against. I’m not saying he won’t get in amongst them as he’s clearly a talented boy, but he shouldn’t be expected to beat either at this moment but as I say, that doesn’t mean he won’t. He’ll have better opportunities on the horizon against weaker reserve pairings but he’ll be up against IMO the strongest reserve pairing in the league currently. Having said that, he’d do well to stay completely clear of Bangs while he’s getting to grips with Foxhall! Could be a very interesting spectacle watching his early heats on Thursday which is the main reason I’m taking the trip across to give him a look.2 points

Don't worry Mike, Geoff will soon pipe down when their Danes are missing because they have to ride in Denmark or CC cba.2 points

Imagine taking a newcomer to the meeting today . "Wheres that Aussie bloke that nearly won the World Championship last year?" "Oh, Brady Kurtz, naah he's not riding today, he's banned" "Thats a shame, was looking forward to seeing him! Why's he banned, what did he do?" "Errrr... he was ill last week"2 points

Did ok in the GP series but no impact in the Premier League but thats hardly surprising given the current set up2 points

Mixed fortunes for two Berwick riders racing today as Belle Vue took on Leicester. Meeting was won by the home side where Peter Kildemand scored seven while Nick Morris scored four and a bonus. Return match is tonight.1 point

I don’t know enough about the insurance side but my understanding is that any ACU licenced rider needs start permission from the ACU for any event abroad. That would then suggest to me that they are covered by the existing personal accident cover available to all disciplines. Previously, ACU licensed speedway riders had to arrange their own cover1 point

I think the rules governing concussion are not as strict in Europe as they are in the UK so Blodorn could ride over there but not in the UK. The rule for concussion should be standard throughout in world sport.1 point

“ Lawson admits he didn’t have to think too hard about joining the Witches when new co-promoters Richard Coleman and Andrew Chisholm approached him. He said: “They have some great ideas, and I think Ipswich is in a good place. It’s good to be part of that. “The new owners got in touch pretty much straight away when things were gathering momentum. Straight away, I said I was very interested – let’s get the deal done. Within no time, we thrashed it out over a cup of coffee. “I am excited for the club in general. The new promotion is stepping things up in a really positive way. The fans will see some really good things come of it.” The new owners do seem to have made a good early impression on various people. Interested to see what good things the fans will see, and what they have planned.1 point

Think we will find that ruling will go out of the window shortly 🤔It is also interesting that Monarchs restaging day is a Sat.Which could prove difficult for them Team wise.1 point

Doesn't this just prove time and time again that the sports governing body simply have no interest in making this sport both affordable and more accessible to all competitors. If a top British rider is in financial distress from trying to earn a living the powers that be should hang your bloody heads in shame! Unfortunately it won't happen as I have stated on here before the turkeys never vote for Christmas!1 point

In the good old days when we had a functional sport with competitors. For how many years did we have the old fashioned tactical rule of using any rider when 6 points behind. I always thought it worked quite well to be honest?1 point

Is it so difficult to understand? He signed his Polish contract well before he knew he was riding Championship with Poole.....And he only signed for Poole when there were all the doubts about whether the Premiership would run. Poole are happy to have him back albeit missing some fixtures, after not being able to agree terms with Rowe.1 point

Edinburgh will easily finish Top 4 well balanced team. After watching Dan last Saturday he looks like he will go up another level our loss is Edinburgh’s gain. I am away for a lie down now after that prediction1 point
