  1. Oh get over yourself- the attitude of an handful of Ipswich fans on this form has been pathetic over last couple of years- constantly hounded about our track, fans and riders and giving a dig at every opportunity even when their teams aren't involved in it. Do I think most fans want to see Sheffield open? Absolutely. but with way the club has been lambasted by some i also feel there's some that would relish seeing the demise of the club i support. I'll leave it there. If people agree or disagree I don't care anymore. Outside speedway I'm a Wednesday fan so seeing both clubs you support potentially go to the wall is pretty draining.

  2. Matt Ford was someone well ahead of the curve... He realised that he could run 2nd tier Speedway using around three quarters of 1st tier riders... Thus charging less for pretty much the same product... Yet, plenty seem to moan about him....??? Maybe more Matt Ford's and the sport would be far more pro active and successful?

  3. The circumstances are different. Gusts, on the Monday, told Oxford he couldn't ride on the Wednesday. He then rode on the Tuesday but missed Wednesday, as promised. Silly boy Francis. Nagel missed a meeting on the Tuesday, then rode on the Wednesday. If he rides on Friday, I can't see a problem. If he misses Friday, then we can discuss potential bans. But not beforehand.

  4. Steady with his participation trophy for finishing top of the league

  5. I have never been in favour of reducing down the standard/quality of anything in an attempt to make it more attractive. It’s an oxymoron. The idea that you can simply share out the likes of Doyle, Sayfutdinov, Bewley, Kurtz, Holder, Fricke, etc, etc across a broader group of teams just doesn’t hold water. The first problem is that it assumes that all clubs in a combined league can afford them which is incredibly unlikely. Even in a 7 team Premiership, it is clear that there are clubs that have deeper pockets than others resulting in a significant gap between them. That problem will just be worse in a combined league as teams choose to ride in the Championship for a reason which surely is primarily a financial one. The second problem is that it assumes that the riders concerned will simply accept that they have to move on to a different team. Some may do, some won’t. Anyway, let’s wait and see what the exciting future looks like.

  6. Sheffields track is no more dangerous than any other, it’s faster for sure but its pretty easy to ride and only seems dangerous when dirt builds up on outside, jack holder- so what the sport needs villains, team manager, knows his stuff and winds up opposing fans, that’s his job, fans at least they create atmosphere especially the 2nd bend barmy army

  7. What strikes me is that this is a dumbing down of the prestige competition in World Speedway that is held every 3 years. Now we have the situation where a country with 2 good riders can qualify for the final of the top 4 rider team competition.

  9. There are 24 weeks from the beginning of April to the end of August to fit in 12 home fixtures. We have just come through a record breaking dry hot summer so no reason that fixtures should be pencilled in so close to cut of date. Especially with the SPON taking place this weekend & not the height of summer as normally happens. I am not blaming Sheffield for the weather but the club/fixture planners need to take ownership for the reason we are running league after the play off final teams have been confirmed.

  10. There were only 2 programmed races (15 & 17) with only 3 riders after Jeppesen's crash and withdrawal. OK a couple of other re-runs for d/qs but no different to lots of other individual meetings elsewhere.

  11. Hats off to Poole, no silly semi final/final races, that's how it's done. Congrats to Anders Rowe...

  12. It’s not a like-for-like replacement; it’s deeper than that. We took a risk when building this team and while it may still work, it’s cost us several times this season. We’re top heavy and that isn’t Max Perry or Freddy Hodder’s fault, but unless our top five are firing on all cylinders- which hasn’t happened on several occasions - then there’s more pressure on those two teenagers to deliver, especially the one riding at number six. Perry and Hodder have had a tough gig this season, but they should be proud. Next season, keep Hodder and compliment him with a stronger reserve.

  13. No, it is definitely not a joke. As I posted earlier, I lost my Track in 1964 and 1974. I am still very bitter about the way it happened, both in 1964 and 1974. You get to love a Sport and it is taken from you - it is no joke and certainly not funny. I sympathise with the Supporters with every Club that has gone, or will go to the wall. Even if Sunderland returned net Season, it is too late for me, I could not attend. It upsets me very much the way Speedway, our Sport, is shrinking. When one can see what has happened at Cradley Heath, Coventry, Peterborough, Wolverhampton, Wimbledon, Hull, Newcastle, Swindon et al - to me it is tragic. These were all great Teams years ago. I know I am getting on in years and some will say (not all I hope) that I am a silly old duffer living in the past. There is an old saying: "The past is another Country; they do thing differently there". Quote attributed to L. P. Hartley.

  15. Anyone saying Ipswich hate Sheffield need to pay close attention to this meeting! Ipswich being poor so you have a solid night and finish top of the league thus making Sheffield a very viable business to buy 😁

  16. If ever there was a night when 4 guests and rider replacement were required it was probably tonight 😂

  19. No, it’s well prepared and on the whole smooth and except for hitting the dirt line is not hard to ride, it’s not technical and doesn’t really have straights and although it’s fast it’s not really difficult to ride at speed but it takes balls to hit the dirt line so close to the fence but as I said they could take away that dirt line but the riders want it

  22. The NFL is a model they should consider. The owners all got together to share revenues and sponsorships to ensure all teams survived, then applied the draft to equalise competition and make the product more attractive. The results are there to be seen. From a struggling sport it's a multi million business. The owners were allowed to keep their own revenue from VIP and Hospitality sales

  25. At the end of the day we all know that Poland call the shots regarding letting their contracted riders ride over in the UK, no doubt his Polish side didn't want Emil risking getting injured again and missing important matches considering he was injured at Sheffield last yr, and as long as we keep playing second fiddle to Poland this will always happen simply as that if we like/agree with it or not.

  26. Glasgow look a Premiership team all ends up. Finances are there, support is there, and the club is extremely well run. It’s a top flight club. If they made the move up I’d expect them to be immediately challenging at the top end unlike others who have made the step up in the past.

  28. Regardless of what supporters of some other clubs might think of Sheffield, this sport needs this club. Hopefully they will have a buyer, but let’s face it, owning a speedway club will never be anything other than an extremely expensive hobby. Say what you like about the top hatted badge seller, but he will plough money into the sport and does not appear to be deterred by failure. As a speedway fan I see this as yet another kick in the b4lls for British speedway. Going on previous posts by PhilTheAce, he does seem to have reliable inside information, so hopefully there is a willing buyer prepared to take over. The talk on this forum is of possibly one big league next season. At the moment, one ‘who ever is left’ league would seem more appropriate.

  29. maybe the exciting new times is there will be an even better top league with a even bigger TV deal and sponsor money so the premiership can form an even bigger and better premiership with less double uppers and oxford want part of that but with the OG name cheetahs

  30. R87 is just a wind-up merchant looking for attention. Everything that he says is complete boll*cks and as someone quite rightly pointed out, he is a liar. The contradictions are laughable. Bizarre that he spends time on a forum about a sport that he continually derides and can’t be more negative about. Such odd behaviour.

  34. It’s not fair to be put in the position of having to ride a pointless meeting after the play off cut off. That’s the shambles that is uk speedway.

  35. Never done it on 2 wheels, but having raced many shale tracks in a car I can honestly say it was the most enjoyable. Yes it is fast, yes it is narrow, yes it was messy if you got it wrong. But also, yes it was exhilarating, and it gave immense satisfaction when you got it right. I think the problem when it comes to opinions on tracks on here, and this is not meant disrespectfully, but people who have never raced anything will never understand the mindset of a racer. The risk element is part of why you do it and there is a lot of pleasure in conquering that danger.

  36. To be fair.... In UK Speedway terms, it was a "big cake" and the person involved was the one who actually brokered the deal.. (When nobody else was able to have done so for years)... The fact they ended up just giving the "Sky Money" to their No1's, for a good many years, (who then all pretty much effed off to Poland when the Sky money went), really isn't his fault... The money should have been used as an investment in secured future growth... However. Being unable to look any further than the end of your nose can be a problem at times... And a lesson still not learned to this day it does often appear...

  37. Fan of the sport, with money to burn? Probably more wise to treat it as a hobby, than expected to make money from it.

  38. Yes agree with that, never been myself but going on what I have seen on tv, like when Emil crashed and mire recently Morris crashed, they were riding too close to the fence, neither was needed as they were both in points scoring positions anyway.
