The loss of Kevin Long on the mic has been massive from my perspective. Can’t be understated what a difference he made to the meeting experience. Huge miss.

I genuinely can’t believe what I’m reading, so you expect the lad to miss one of his GCSE exams! I’m sure I can recall a full facility being granted for other 16 year olds doing their GCSEs in the past!

In the “long run” I’m hopeful that there becomes a sufficient number of professional promoters who get together to drive the sport as a business profitably onwards and upwards. That said, there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before that becomes reality.

I've been to the meeting s at Foxhall this season and haven't noticed any decline from last season. In fact, the new TV screen has added to the experience and once they get interviews onto that for the crowd to hear it will be even better. Some people just love to moan.

The size of the sport in the UK makes it perfect for it to be a feeder league to Poland... I would go as far as to say that UK clubs should form links with them... The BSB deliver a great product using some old heads, some young UK riders, and some young riders from Europe, Japan, and Australasia who are not ready for the higher echelons.. They ensure that the talent they "lose" to MotoGp and WSB as the best riders, organically, move through the levels, get replaced by the next riders in line, due to running several lower classes including youth racing... They don't rely on other competitions to bale them out, nor allow other competitions to impact their fixture schedule... In short. They know their place and cloth is cut accordingly.. The result is a strong competitive format... Given the amount of young Poles who ride Speedway there will be a surplus of reasonable talent that cannot get team places, therefore, the UK should enable them to ride over here as part of their development.. In any business, why wouldn't a smaller entity try and forge great relations with the biggest business in their industry?... UK Speedway is now at a point where it needs significant help, and a conveyer belt of riders from the No1 Speedway nation on earth would certainly help them.. And, at the same time, help Poland with their overall rider development...

At some point the point has to be raised: does the sport exist to serve league competition, or does league competition serve the sport? At its core, speedway (and all professional sport) exists as entertainment, and it's unthinkable to imagine a cinema - for example - that has no films showing on some weeks. Consider what you want from your enterprise - one, two, three, even four home meetings a month - and make the league fit that, not the other way round.

It’s been a while but speedway’s back with a bang in the Borders this Saturday. Typically dreich spring weather means it will be 49 days since the last high-octane racing action at Shielfield Park. But who better to relaunch the season than Glasgow Tigers, a team packed with track specialists against a Bandits side hoping to welcome back Peter Kildemand to the fold after injury and handing a debut to Jordan Jenkins. At 43, Chris “Bomber” Harris shows no sign of slowing down and recently qualified for the World Championship Challenge while Berwick-born-and-based Leon Flint, the ultra-exciting Kyle Howarth and Danish newcomer Kevin Juhl Pedersen all know their way around Britain’s paciest racetrack. But in Nick Morris the Bandits also have an all-out racer in fine form, guesting for a number of clubs and riding with Premiership Leicester during the Bandits’ hiatus, while Victor Palovaara was just two points away from joining Harris in the GP Challenge. Berwick already have an eight-point victory under their belts over their noisy neighbours, in the BSN Series. That went right down to the wire and there’s no reason to think Saturday night will be any different. As always accompanied under-16s go free so make a family night of it at Shielfield Park where there are 1,400 seats in the covered grandstand, terracing and grass banking viewing areas which allow you to get up close and personal to the action. The balance sheet is in deficit before a wheel was turned. £70k lost due to no tv deal and a further £30k for a new air fence. No emil which would affect attendance and a repetive league.

Well he's been spotted having a practice. So we might get a Christmas bonanza meeting the year.

Most meetings over the past decade or so have become pretty much "Speedway for the sake of it"... Given so many promoters fund a hobby plenty of what we have now is "Speedway for the sake of it".. Hence, nothing is even considered to not be fit for purpose, therefore nothing radically changes and each season morphs into the last one.. Without these hobbyists though there wouldn't be Speedway, given there doesn't appear to be a long line of others to take over their tracks..

Has he been suspended though? I haven't heard anything. We don't know what has caused this sudden decline in his mental health. Maybe he has issues at home. Either way, we don't know and won't know. We can only hope he's okay now and he does what's best for him and the team

The inclusion of JD would have exceeded the cost budget for riders. Might not be what you want to read, but at least you have a promotion with long term sustainability in mind. A professional promotion not a hobbyist.

What about next Thursday. Nothing else happening and think of the savings with a curtailed league programme. Just pull two names out of the hat and get on with it. That will have as much credibility as seeing the campaign drag on for another four months with meetings interspersed by weather. It has become a fragmented programme with little to get excited about. A sad state of affairs. If only those in charge took on board some of the feedback from the punters but alas the contempt shown towards the supporters in this country will back fire on in the short term and more tracks will close as the finances will not stack up and they have no chance of getting the lapsed supporters to return. Heads up arses and fingers in ears best describes those who oversee this once great sport.

Can we just take a minute to actually realise it will be around the end of June before any witches fan sees a different team at Foxhall when you realise only Northampton and Kings Lynn have raced here this season. And shock, the next meeting is Kings Lynn. It’s really not that exciting for any Ipswich fans to keep watching the same riders race round.

But worky and their many fans have a massive one off journey to Poole on a Wednesday or Plymouth on a Saturday or Oxford on a Wednesday

Pretty enjoyable meeting I thought. Not Klindts biggest fan but excellent tonight. Scott won the meeting though, excellent night and most of it from the back. Lambert unlucky with his puncture, but probably Edwards worst meeting as a Bear. King and Nicholls excellent for the visitors as expected with solid support from Barker. Probably not enough for us to progress but happy with the home win.

Mayfield certainly look lke it is very much "business first" which can only be a positive thing for the sport.. As the more who view it as that should hopefully mean challenge and growth... Jeopardy, Consequence, Integrity and Credibility... All professional sports need those characteristics if they ever hope to be successful....

For me, in the UK, the sport exists to provide a hobby for many of fhe promoters, and an income stream for lads who want to ride a Speedway bike.... No more, nor less, than that... Continuous contrived septets, put randomly together almost 200 times a season, on an ad hoc basis, suggests the sport certainly isnt set up to have its leagues as its major selling point...

As an example. By June 24th this year, Sheffield will have ridden four home matches. At the same date in 2008, they had completed fourteen home matches. I think this helps to understand why some fans get out of the habit, and why riders want/need more than one league.

Championship is far from boring, we don't get the same teams every other week racing each other. Yes i have read the Belle Vue thread, and deep down your not happy about it

Update from Danyon Hume posted on social media. Just a quick update for everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. Tomorrow I’m going down to have all of the metalwork removed from my back. This is a huge step forward in my recovery and brings me one step closer to getting back on the bike where I belong. It’s been a long, challenging road to recovery with plenty of ups and downs, but for the first time in a long while, there’s real light at the end of the tunnel. Once I’m through this next stage, my focus will be on working hard to rebuild my fitness, strength, and confidence so I can return fitter, stronger, and more determined than ever. I can’t thank everyone enough for the support, messages, and encouragement along the way. It has meant more than you know. The comeback starts now, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
