Just got back from a very entertaining meeting at Poole. First of all commiserations to Redcar who put up a decent defence of their 6 point lead. Thought Charles Wright was quite brilliant. And to the handful of Redcar fans who travelled all the way from the north east to support their team. Racing was tight and Redcar battled well until the rumpus of heat eight when Mulford started kicking out at Will Cairns. Ref really messed up by putting on the Red light. Newman thought 2 mins had been cancelled and pulled away to the bend. But the Red lights went out and the clock kept ticking. Kyle arrived 2 seconds too late and was excluded. Very unfair. In fact ludicrous. But the Purates were then fired up and took control of the meeting. People moaning there is a lack of characters in the sport. Then along comes young Will Cairns who speaks what he thinks and it’s moan moan moan. Cocksure, should be taken down a peg or two, too big for his boots, etc etc etc. Will Cairns is perfect for speedway. A young lad, who is clearly heading to the top, causing waves. More riders should be like this.

Cooper Rushen is delightfully refreshing to watch on track and screen. What a great example to the sport (unlike Cairns) Well done Poole on a decent track too with shale!

Aces fans make me laugh actually lapping this tin pot crap domestic season up that most fans lost interest in weeks ago. It became very clear that the Aces couldn't lose because everything fell in place for them, Clubs who've faced problems haven't bothered to address the issues they've faced while Belle Vue did when losing Bewley. Proof is in the pudding. Sheffield didn't act with Jack Holder's season ending injury, They just crossed their fingers and hoped King's Lynn wouldn't finish 4th. Leicester didn't act when facing issues with underperformers as well as the Kyle Howarth situation. Ipswich didn't act with Richard Lawson's off track attitude as well as getting Tom Brennan some help due to his on track struggles. King's Lynn have seen Max Fricke underperform this season which effectively ended any sort of challenge from them. Northampton have had a season to forget with a number of underperformers to a point where they've ended up with a 44 year old at No.1.

Try rewinding 5 times and listen again in that case.

Holder has to be the first choice for a wildcard as we was right up there till his injury. 2nd choice is between Bewley and Lindgren, who would also both probably be in the top 7 without injuries, but surely one of them has to go to whoever finishes 8th ? With 4 riders separated by 1 point chasing 3 places, it would be very harsh to not give another shot to the one that misses out. So which way do you go ? The 41 year old with a fantastic record but never been Champion and unlikely to be now, or the 27 year old potential future champion who would probably have been in the title fight this year ?

He is acting like he is so loyal and playing up to Poole fans saying he doesn’t care about other clubs and Poole is his home, he done the same in Falubaz and then they dropped him… funny thing is, in Poland that 💩 don’t fly with the fans and he will not be welcome at stal Gorzów or Leszno anytime soon as Poland rivals go deeper than any kind of handbags in British speedway. To me, he acts like he has already made it and is the wonder child… he is just a temu version of Cooper who will be the real deal.

Jody Scott is a racer and attacks the track. Edwards just tries to defend the position he gates in usually unsuccessfully. I know who I would have in my team if it was a straight choice between the two.

Fair comment re Sheffield that after Jack Holder was injured the entire season hinged on one of your rivals finishing in the bottom two so you could borrow their best rider for the play-offs.

Hand bags etc who cares, its drama, its making the meeting a lot more interesting and your getting that drama because this meeting actually has something riding on it. They say its slick but clearly there is some dirt on it because of the outside run.

Can see someone sorting that big head Cairns out soon. He regularly rides across other riders starting areas wheel spinning messing up their runts before tapes up. Noticed he's done it on BSN in most meetings he's been in this season.

I think you're being a bit unkind; if it wasn't for those two, you wouldn't have had a sniff of being in the playoffs. Your finger should be pointing at the three riders with averages under 4. The 2 x British U21 champion was hailed as a huge winter signing for the Tigers. Has been none existent at No2. Hausel was signed off the back of two good meetings, as for Hodder, he is now in his third full season in the championship, imo should be scoring a lot better than he is. All three owe the Tigers a big meeting. Scunthorpe are not the strongest away from home, and are definitely there for the taking.

Get him in! Wanna be entertained or not? This fella provides it in bucketfulls. No matter which British club signs him, id travel to go and watch him. I think this “danger” tag gets overplayed anyhow. All i see is a gutsy ballsy rider who isnt afraid to go for gaps. Ive seen Fricke be much harder than Woryna in the Grand Prix’s this year!

Grmek is certainly one I would have on my radar for next season.

What points limit are you working to? The five you mentioned probably come to over 36. We really need a line up with two heat leaders and two strong reserves, rather than our obsession with top heavy teams

After Laguta’s attitude last time he was on these shores I’m surprised why anyone would want him anywhere near Foxhall. Bewley is a possibility but look elsewhere for the 2nd heat leader.

Why not plymouth and Berwick do has very little if any impact on crowd numbers imo. Supporters will always prefer live speedway

Let me get this right. I can’t name call but he can call out Jake for losing his position in Belle Vue to him, do me a favour in this snowflake culture. He is clearly big enough to make comments so he can take them. Cooper is a better rider than Cairns. Lastly, if he pulled that stunt of pulling the cut out of anyone else’s bike in Poland he would get a red card. Poland won’t tolerate his antics, probably why he lost his place in Falubaz to Mitch.

The PGE Ekstraliga announced that the rule mandating an automatic suspension for a rider who has suffered a concussion does not, in fact, apply to the top tier of competition. "Article 18, Paragraph 10 of the PZM Medical Regulations does not apply to PGE Ekstraliga competitions in Poland, as a dispute regarding it is currently pending before the PZM Tribunal. This dispute has been ongoing since January 2025 and concerns solely the *post-factum* regulatory consequences for a rider diagnosed with a specific type of injury during a competition," the Speedway Ekstraliga stated.

18+18 = 36. Scunthorpe need 38. Ablitt, MPT, Ingram and Loftus (if he's the guest) will struggle to get 10 between them meaning Mountain will need to get at least 10 from the reserve spot. Hopefully whoever the team manager is for Scunthorpe they'll have the balls to give Mountain the maximum number of rides unlike Howe did in the home leg

However it is easier said that done to try to get two strong reserves, as I remember the team we had in 2011 - with Raj, Morris, Theo and Christian all having a stint at reserve! Awwww. Martin Ashby. What a rider. I was totally obsessed with the guy as a teenager. I remember the first time I ever went to Swindon Speedway. Swindon v Wolves in 1974. I stood on the apex of the first and second bends. First race I saw - Martin Ashby of Swindon beating some foreign bloke called Ole Olsen and breaking the track record. Amazing. He had the best style of any rider. Take any picture of Martin Ashby riding, and you could put it into any other picture of him. He always looked exactly the same in every picture. So stylish, but possibly not aggressive or ruthless enough sometimes, which probably cost him a place in my first ever World Final in 1975. That race with Ray Wilson was over 50 years ago now, and I'm still traumatised by it! I even took my FS1-E to his garage once for a service - just so I could say my moped was serviced by Martin Ashby. After he retired, he was regular supporter at Blunsdon. Always in the same spot - near to the tea hatch going into the first bend - as though he were just another supporter. No heirs and graces at all. RIP Martin Ashby. What a guy!

What a way to end the competitive season. The last Friday of summer 2026 brought weather which was anything but summery and a track which resembled, perhaps aptly, a pool. Having done the hard work on Wednesday, the Pirates barely had to get out of second gear in this one, sweeping aside the home challenge before it had even contemplated beginning. Rider of the Night, by a country mile, was Kyle Newman. I mentioned on his previous visit that I could quite happily watch him every week. It’s fair to say that opinion was reaffirmed last night. In fantasy world where I buy the Monarchs for £1, Newman is my first signing, that much is certain. His reserve partner, Slater Lightcap, didn’t have quite so good an evening. Obviously super-excited to be returning to the plush sunny Armadale surroundings, he nervously twitched his way to a heat 2 warning, before crashing out in heat 6 (speedy recovery). I couldn’t help but notice he wasn’t wearing his team racesuit. Why doesn’t he have one? He’s been here 5 weeks. Are the Kevlar manufacturers on strike? With Monarchs 4 points down and 28 on aggregate after heat 9, I rallied the troops around me. “6 5-0s and we win. Or, even better, 4 5-0s and 2 5-1s and we get an extra heat free of charge. Let’s do this!” As Monarchs gated on a 5-1 in heat 10 I thought, “bang... bang... here we go”. And then Lewis Kerr pulled off a tremendous outside swoop on not-so-super Grahn. The resulting 4-2 meant the tie was mathematically won. I didn’t notice too much (anything?) in the way of on-track celebrations. Perhaps FJ Havvy doesn’t have a calculator in his back pocket? If there was any jubilation, it appeared very low key. Almost as low as the volume on the home straight tannoy, which left me not knowing whether the presenters in the Tower had actually congratulated Poole on their aggregate victory. I assume they did? They’re usually very professional. That said, a low-volume tannoy does have some benefit as it means I don’t have to listen to the ‘modern’ music in between races. Why no Avril Lavigne? It’s all so uncultured nowadays. For the Monarchs, it was something of an impossible task from the off. And by the time the Thom(p)son non-twins were skittled in heat 13, the relief upon hearing of the resulting abandonment almost seemed palpable. It was sad, albeit perhaps fitting, that Justin Sedgmen’s final competitive race of the year saw him go from first to third. That apart he was decent, unlike Mitchell Cluff. Let’s just say, if the play offs were his shop window for a return in 2027, he shouldn’t receive an offer. Finally, I can’t not mention Captain Pugwash himself, Michele Castagna. When he first signed, I always remember him saying, “when I get dialled in, I’ll be virtually unbeatable”. Still waiting son. Still waiting. Well done Poole. The People’s Champions 2026. Here’s hoping you finish the job in the daft final. Roll on next season...
