The ultimate answer is stop complaining about what other countries/businesses are doing and focus on what you are doing wrong and strive be the best at the job and then that problem goes away7 points

Should have gone it alone at least a decade ago... I was bored the other day, (retirement can do this to you), and found myself looking at the British U21 Final Results from around a decade ago, as I was curious to see how many riders are left in the sport... As "there are not enough riders to have one league".... Very, very few from around 2014 - 2018 (I didn't check any further), are still riding.. Some of the names, quite high up in the scoring, were unknown to me, and had beaten some of the riders still riding, and doing "OK" today... These lads would now be 28 - 33 ... Surely a fair % of them would have developed to the required level (they definitely weren't " wobblers"), if they had been given team places, rather than giving those places to journeyman foreigner after journeyman foreigner, who have ridden over here using a "revolving door" system... The GP lads are great to watch, but even that can get boring, and certainly are not cost neutral over a season when you measure the revenue they bring in.. UK Speedway should simply have cut its cloth accordingly and opened their businesses on days that their potential highest amount of punters would come through the doors.. Probably too late to sort it now, ssdly...5 points

Guess you’ve never been to Ipswich in recent times 🙄 unless you wanna vape or get your haircut in a Turkish fuc*ing barber then don’t even bother going in to “town”. Sh!thole. well done Labour.5 points

Interesting bit of research. of course there's lots of variables like injuries but I reckon a fair few will just not have been able to make it pay and so you get into this ever decreasing circle where a small pool of riders can only make it pay only by taking all of the opportunities to make it pay. i.e. riding in multiple leagues. I reckon you could do a similar analysis on the Polish U21 riders and lots of them will have disappeared from the sport. Probably more to do with how competitive it is over there though, in terms of how many U21 riders they have. I've said on here before if you want to get rid of doubling up in Britain there seems to be a load of Polish kids who are left without Polish clubs each season. Short term fix and probably not possible after Brexit? whilst I don't disagree about British speedway sorting itself out I do think the world governing body need to do more to both protect the existing territories and expand into new territories. ultimately if everything becomes focussed on Poland that's what the sport will become... a Polish sport that nobody else is bothered about. easier said than done of course but I do think FIM need to look at how they assist the current pyramid and develop new ones. for a start stop dragging all sorts of riders all over Europe for all sorts of qualifiers that conflict with domestic leagues and appear to be costly for the riders. look at the cricket franchise system where those competitors often play of a number of franchises because the competitions are staggered to allow it. Have a month long event with 8 franchises with the top international riders supplemented by local riders. Have the UK one in June after the GP's. Have a Scandinavian one in July and a Polish one in August. Take it to the USA and Australia over the winter. Like a travelling circus just without the clowns.... ....hopefully. Then eventually look to expand it into new territories. Spain, Asia, South America. There's loads of kids into motorbikes in those regions. They can't all make it to MotoGP but some could make a decent career as Speedway rider if the infrastructure and opportunity is there. The raw materials are out there but at the minute the flagship SGP series is reliant on the Poles developing talent which is more and more likely to be Polish... ....and so the ever decreasing circle continues. It's basically a business with zero product development.4 points

What, for the reform or tory clowns? 14 years of their rule has left the country in tatters, and well done Nigel for brexit, what a disaster.4 points

Stars wait a few years for a proper No.1 only for him to have his worst season in a while lol. Ipswich 2 passengers but won with a bit to spare again, Witches really are 1 team change away from potentially retaining the PREM title imo. The Brennan, Musielak, Lawson & King core with Edwards as the Rising Star is strong enough to compete for silverware when you look at the amount of points they put up as a unit.4 points

Although I would point out that Lawson was wearing an older pair of Witches kevlers with Heeps on the back.3 points
-
I would say Jonas Jeppesen if the points allow it with May change in averages. Regardless if he likes Ipswich or not, your no. 2 should not be beaten under any circumstance by the opposing rising star.3 points

Posted by Peter Kildemand on Facebook. BROKEN THE COLLAR BONE Unfortunately, Peter was involved in a crash on Friday night when his club Berwick faced Edinburgh Monarchs. Already in the first heat of the evening, Peter crashed and broke his collar bone. After a few days of waiting in the British, Peter landed yesterday again in Denmark and has today been to check up on OUH. They were going to operate on his collarbone within a week, but of course they are going to try to do it as soon as possible. So we keep our fingers crossed that Peter can have his operation soon, we hope to see him back on the bike again soon.3 points

Possibly 18 to 22 depending one way or another. The British league really has no option but to go along with what Poland wants. We have run our league structure into the ground while the Poles have made theirs something that people want to invest in. I am hopeful that Mayfield might be the ones to stop the rot & turn the fortunes of uk speedway around but it’s a long road.3 points

If ever there was a rider who could win a semi final/last chance from the worst gate it's Zmarzlik. I don't think it disbenefits him at all. I think in all of his title wins he'd won a good few grand finals anyway. I don't think he's ever relied on his heat scores to win a title. As I say I think it was because they didn't like the concept of the winner of the grand final not being the top scorer on the night. Tbf there probably wasn't enough riding on making and winning the final in the old system. Didn't Loram win the title without winning a GP that season? That didn't bother me as he was the best rider over the season which is what the GP series was meant to reward as opposed to the old individual one off world final where a Szczakiel could end up being World Champion the only one day ever where he was the best rider in the world. So we've kind of gone from the jeopardy of the world champ being someone who was the best over 5 rides on one day, to a GP series which rewarded the rider who was consistently the best over the season, to this hybrid where you only have to be the best rider twice per gp across the series.2 points

I thought it was going to be a lot closer tbh. Rob may have to think about replacing Kvech in a double change because he's very limited on who he can replace Paco with considering his GSA is so low imo. Granted the King's Lynn faithful are fans of Kvech, But at the end of the day, It's a Team game and it's clear that King's Lynn aren't going anywhere with the current 1-7. Back-to-Back 50-40 defeats at Foxhall and using a Tactical Ride on both occasions.2 points
-
Good observations and I agree, I don't think a 10 point win told the whole story. I believe this was effectively won after 6 or 7 heats. Being honest that's the poorest Lynn performance at foxhall for some time and I can't imagine Rob Lyon would be happy with that.2 points

Nightmare for the Bandits. Not even a month into the season and you’ve lost Battye (a revelation, headed for the main body of the team) and your talisman. You couldn’t write that sort of luck.2 points

Wasn't it something to do with the 'them' thinking that it was too confusing when the winner of the final wasn't the top GP points scorer. Especially when compared to other motorsports. I didn't find it confusing and prefer the old system. I don't like how finishing 2nd in one Last Chance/Semi Final scores more GP points than finishing 2nd in the other. Of course the new system does allow the top two heat point scorers to avoid the semi finals. Swings and roundabouts I guess but I feel that there was more competition in each qualifying heat when every point mattered.2 points

Me, my mate, and mine and his lad, will be there next season.. Helping the local pub economy... Always loved visits to Portman Rd... A bit of "old school" proper football stadium feel about it... Unlike that monstrosity in London that hopefully will see West Ham playing Championship football next season.. Good to have Ipswich back....2 points

When promotion is worth around £150 million I think you can understand the celebration! It does highlight the stark reality of Speedways finances when the flipside is that it could mean a reduction in the crowd at Foxhall that is the difference between a break even season and a large loss The usual 1500 would traditionally be raised to 5000 on a good weather bank holiday If that is down to 3000 then the 2000 difference costs the Witches in the region of £40k Peanuts in relation to the football club - a weeks wages for just one player but vital to the Speedway club!2 points

Can’t believe they are having a parade, yes they got promoted but it’s not as if they won the league2 points
-
Riders should get the points they score on the day, 3, 2, 1, 0, it worked well for years and everyone including the fans could understand it, this constant tinkering, last chance qualifying cobblers should be binned. 20 heats, top 8 to two Semis and then a final, it’s fair and no one could argue against it.2 points

He hasn't started slowly for KL though. Getting double figures most of the time.2 points

He was excellent in the win away at Lynn also, but then very poor at Northampton as well as the two home fixtures. He’s incredibly inconsistent and frustratingly, he’s inconsistent during meetings not just meeting to meeting. He can have a couple of fantastic rides where you think he’s on it, then can run a couple of lasts of third places and look all at sea. Hawkins was singing his praises last year and tipping him to go to the very top and challenge Bewley and Lambert as top Brit in seasons to come, but the lad turns 25 this year so he needs to start getting a move on pronto. He’s not old no, but he isn’t some emerging 19/20 year old either he’s been around a while now and he needs to sort out the inconsistency in his riding. He looks miles off GP standard at the moment.2 points

Don't think we are poor, i am pretty sure the owners have money left. But we are not very good at speedway at the minute, I am sure changes are in the pipeline.1 point

At the moment Poole have released him for at least 28 days , so not under contract, so if another clubs waves a contract for the rest of the season the said rider could take up the offer, an offer is better than a potential future offer from the club who temporary dropped him1 point

Absolutely NOTHING like it used to be let’s be real here. Some of these have now actually closed and only open on match days. The Town is a complete sh!thole that is a pale shadow of its old self, pure and simple. It won’t just be our town either, plenty just like it up and down the country. If you want a nice night out, go a bit further out to Woodbridge where it’s still relatively civilised and hasn’t been “diversified” yet.1 point

Or Steve Gresham, there ain't any really hard men these days the likes of Compton.Hurry,Goodwin,Morris,Schott. The bikes are just so fast you just can't do the block passes & riders seem less inclined to put the front wheel where a leg is like the days of old.1 point

Fair play too Edinburgh well deserved win today and being honest it has been coming with the inconsistency in this team. if you are being out gated all afternoon this is what the outcome is. On a side note there can’t be any other team in both leagues that have as many mechanical issues than us very frustrating. but well done Edinburgh best team today by a distance.1 point

Suppose the BSN Trophy is not worth winning either just like the KO Cup.1 point

yes, and it was even worse for Brady Kurtz, the last place in the LCQ ruined his results completety. I am convinced that the riders do no longer give it all during the heat races, since those points scored do not count for the World championship anyway now. The old system when every point won on the track actually counted was much better. Zmarzlik just took it easy last night. He took no unneccessary risks, won only one race, but still ended up on the rostrum in the end, right behind Bewley, who rode so much better and had won all five of his heats. I just don't think this system is fair.1 point
