Which is a shame. You won’t have a clue what went on in the races and updates really paint a picture when you get the right texters.

This isn’t on the paying punter. It’s all on whoever signed him. I’m a bandits supporter and as sceptical as we all were most gave Cook the chance last year and actively supported him. I hold absolutely no ill feeling towards him as a person. He simply should not have been given a team place. The gym, motocross and his push bike seam to do his mental wellness the work of good. Speedway however just isn’t working for him anymore.

What a fantastic gesture from the club and riders involved 👏 Never knew Anne but she was always noticeable wearing her Lions race suit. Condolences to her family and friends.

Cook let’s down another team that’s not to be sniffed at

1 camera, 1 commentator speaking into a dodgy mic, shots of an empty track mid race and a quarter of the screen taken up by adverts. Even British Speedway can do better than this bare minimum coverage from the FIM!

70's racing was no better, nor worse than today's, for me.. What made it stand out was the crowd sizes thus, the atmosphere got created that made you return.. BV's Yorkshire rivals would bring a good few coaches with them ran by their supporters clubs, whiich had several thousand members, meaning an "electric atmosphere"... Almost 20 teams in the league meant there actually looked like something worth winning, and the vast majority of riders were yours and no one elses, (apart from young UK lads being allowed to double up for development, rather than due to a lack of riders, or tier two clubs wanting to use tier one riders at a reduced rate).. Teams rode on their best nights for attendances, and the admission costs took up a far lower percentage of your disposable income after your bills are paid, than it does today.. And Guests were the exception, rather than the rule... The Superstars were on TV most Saturdays, and also crossed over into mainstream non sporting programming... The top lads rode massive averages, making them "box office" particularly away from home when you may only got to see them once... Their averages often being down to them picking the best gates, bonus points being included, a "gimme" tac sub ride against the weakest second string and reserve, and less "head to heads" than today against the oppositions top two, and, usually, especially at home, just four rides.... It was though, overall, the size of crowds that brought the atmosphere and made it "an event"... The promoters of today though still have thousands of "lapsed fans" who still closely follow the sport, but see no reason to attend UK League Speedway... A huge opportunity should the promoters ever one day decide to get these thousands of fans re-engaged with their version of the sport...

My favourite era was the 70s. Crowds were big and the atmosphere due to the big crowds was incredible, even for run-of-the-mill, very ordinary, bottom of the table matches. The racing is far better now than in was then. But today's racing in front of 800 people just can't match the atmosphere of a league meeting in front of 8,000.

Was waiting for somebody to come out with that, little surprise it was you. He's got round Ipswich, Plymouth, Leicester perfectly well and scored good points by not just 'twisting the throttle' - he's 16 and is entitled to some tricky meetings on trickier tracks as part of his development.

Seems like we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. The lads got stuck in and nearly pulled off the win but overall they gave a good account of themselves. You can forever call the if, buts and maybe but at the end of the day the riders can only race the opposition on track. I was pleased for Kyle as he gave it his all and that’s all you can ask for. Wills and Cooper will only learn from the experience and people thinking that they will wipe out their opposite reserves everywhere they go need to give them a break. These lads and many other youngsters are the future of British speedway and will only improve over time.

It’s one thing when people add free streams on here and they don’t really work sometimes but when you pay £15 you expect no issues really, well I do at least 😂

No idea the 70s were before my time. To be honest dispite the likes of Rickardsson, Gollob & more recently Doyle & Emil my favourite era at Ipswich was 89/90 in the National League. Plenty of teams & characters the sport just seemed more fun. Even though my all time favourite is the Cowboy.

Because the speedway bosses "running the sport", are massively behind the times??

Back in those days, bonus points were included in the Green Sheet Averages. This made a huge difference to averages. (remember there are on average 10 extra bonus points in a 15 heat match). Also then, matches were 13 heats so the top riders likely met only once in a meeting. Nowadays with 15 heats including a nominated, top riders will meet at least twice. And with the 4 top riders all meeting in heat 15, someone is going to finish with a zero and take a big dent on their average. In the 70s, a top rider would go into every race with a reasonable expectataion of finishing second at worst. Also back then, leagues had 16 - 18 teams. They met only once all year. Nowadays with fewer teams and fewer riders, teams meet more often, so top riders clash more often. If was also quite common to turn up on a Saturday night in the 70s to find Peter Collins isn't riding tonight or Ivan Mauger isn't riding, because they had a lucrative Grasstrack meeting in Germany on Sunday afternoon. So riders might even miss their only league head-to-head of the entire season. (with no internet. no one knew they were missing until they'd paid their money, and no one seemed bothered). With just one bike strapped to the back of a car, no lower end rider had the equipment to challenge a top rider who may have a workshop at the track. If you want closer racing with a more level playing field, and riders meeting more often, then the current day is for you. If you want a few top stars for publicity purposes with the top stars artificially inflated to appear more dominant than they are, then the 70s are for you.

They arrive Thu/Fri as they know that their eviction summons won't get processed till Monday at the earliest... Tuesday on BH weekends.. My stores had a major problem with them as concrete car parks were perfect for them.. Therefore. My company (through a third party so no trace to us), employed a "security company" to arrive and ensure that the car park remained "safe".. In reality, it was three "big lads" with three big Alsatians that stayed overnight... The dogs stayed outside their transit van,continuously barking which triggered the pikeys (I mean travellers), dogs,and also scared their horses all night, ensuring plenty of noise.. The lads were all body cammed up, looking like Police, and sat up all night playing music... Any verbal altercation was met with "I have to tell you that I am recording this conversation both visually and with sound. For your protection and mine"... They hated those words... I was always in for 7am and would catch up with the security lads for an update and, invariably, they would telll me that "head pikey", I mean traveller, was going to see me later that morning... Around 8am he would come over and agree to clear off if I let them use the toilet and washroom facilities... Which I obviously did... Word soon got round their communities that our company wasnt somewhere to go to, and the problem quickly stopped....

I would encourage any Worky fans reading this to pick up the phone or use email or social media to express your dispsleasure at the situation and demand some action. Police Station ; Police Chief and Crime Commissioner David Allen; Mark Fryer Cumberland Council Leader and or senior Council Figures; Josh MacAlister MP to name a few.

I think it was a good result for both teams - Edinburgh fans went home happy that they beat the Pirates, especially the way they did it, Poole happy because they are only two behind. Who might have scored what had line ups been different is just silly talk. You can only race against what’s in front of you and that was the case for both sides. Edinburgh had some unexpectedly good performances which is always a fan pleaser, Poole were solid from one to six with only Rushen findings things tough. I can see a repeat coming up for the play off final once Dan T is back

I think any criticism of Jordy is wide of the mark. He was up against two of the best reserves in the league tonight and managed to beat Rushen twice. I think people forget it’s his first full season over here and he’s still only 17. If he can find a bit more consistency out the gate he’ll be fine.

David howe was poor, cost scunny the points, Pickering should have come in for Abliit heat 10 and Ace Pijper should have been in heat 14. MPT got excluded for going back into pits, was not aware of that rule, is it always enforced? Set up at Workington is excellent, a credit to the sport.

It was still very raw back in the 70’s with only Ivan getting scientific about things. Even top lads would stick a bike on the bike of a Citroen with bits on the back seat. You could chat away for ages with your hero’s and a big crowd made even the most mundane meeting an event. I do believe that with the difference in remuneration top riders will “coast” if they don’t make the gate on our notoriously gate’n’go circuits. Exception to this is Dan who just loves to ride his bike and goes for it all the time, showing it can be done with a little desire and application. Back in the 70’s the big bucks were here and you would get an almighty bollocking if you were to coast, much like Poland now. The fact there are no characters can make for a bland evening and of course nostalgia colours our recollection of events from 50+ years ago when (generally) we were all in a happier place. PC was my hero and I can still get tongue tied when chatting with him now whereas Dan is a mate but still provides the level of excitement in me that PC did all those years ago. The on track action can be as good if not better than back then but off track it’s lacking somewhat.

But.... the Speedway updates site has been going since 2005... The technology has advanced since then, agreed, but still the "powers that be" have only decided now to have their own updates page, that's all I'm saying.

Plus they tried a few gp's in Aussie but eventually that was axed also, could have done with trying to get one in the USA when Hancock was either champ/near the top but that never happened guessing again due to costs of getting all the equipment over to California.

Friend of ours did exactly that a few years ago and the police warned him about harassment!

The line-ups logged with SCB were posted on Wednesday morning, and both teams will obviously have changes. Speedway Updates will shortly be history, as the new BSP update facility is lightning quick.

That should clean them up a bit 🙂

Cookie is class on a bike but unfortunately he is just too un reliable we need a team thats complete. What changes could be made? Antti would be great at home, but falls short on away tracks.

If he's been signed off by the doctor for a mental health issue, as that's a non-speedway injury / illness, he gets a 7 day suspension & Workington are allowed a guest, for up to 28 days I believe. If he doesn't have a doctor's note & is considered "withholding his services" Workington will get a 14 day facility, while Cook is suspended for 14 days. That's how I understand the rules. While I think the BSPL should do more to support riders suffering from mental health, for example banning Max James from the NDL because he wanted to take a break from the Champ, was just awful, I think it would take a doctor's note for something to be done?

Vaculik stated half way through last season it was his last at Gorzow so Lublin enquired with the rider and after being offered a larger wage than at Stal, he decided to ask Zmarzlik what the club was like and if he should go, Zmarzlik told him it’s a good club but it wasn’t because they are friends that he went. Zmarzlik is actually closer to Anders than Vaculik and Zmarzlik used to go round Anders house as a guest often when riding in Gorzow.

Paco just rides the same line ever race at every track ,a couple of feet from the white line.Making a good living at speedway though,very overrated IMO.

Even if you have good racing here the 60+ year olds aren’t going to create an atmosphere. The passion for speedway isn’t here in this country. You don’t see these fans in Poland sitting down and filling in their programmes after each heat. Imagine being at a football match and someone scores and the first thing you do is fill in a booklet with the goal scorer and the score, I find it weird people do it for speedway ever since I got into the sport.

Very entertaining - tremendous last heat from Sedgy and Kye. Great to see Grahn and Cluff ride so confidently. No.2 isn’t easy so 9pts from there is no mean feat. Jordy and Paco’s form much more of a concern however. Will be good to get Dan back albeit Bomber did his bit tonight

Agree. And guests - the single biggest reason for UK's decline in my opinion. I refuse to attend again until they get rid of them. No other leagues use them, so UK doesn't need them either.
