  1. Congratulations to Mark and the whole team at Plymouth who obtained a notable achievement on Saturday by having a record attendance for over 10 years in the defeat against the Pirates. Fantastic for a sport that needs positive news stories to see a club going in the right direction and the swell of momentum behind the club within Plymouth. It's fantastic to see and long may it continue.

  2. Let's be honest, the "improvements" made have pretty much all been suggested on here down the past few years... All very basic, cosmetic changes... Fundamental change was never going to happen, given so many promoters are quite content with their lot... Fans say that want to see the sport have credibility, integrity, and able to be taken seriously, however, to be fair to the promoters, I have never seen those apirational aims ever being quoted from themselves as objectives to be achieved... To run UK Speedway "properly" as a team sport, takes more money, and also, brings close scrutiny, which UK Speedway doesn't stand up to well when it happens.. Phil made those obvious, quick win, changes, (which was more than had been done by others), however, ultimately, those running UK Speedway know that their skill sets are not what the sport needs, (hence it is where it is), but definitely won't relinquish control of it to someone else who may be able to lead it in delivering its true potential... I presume the lack of a TV deal meant no more job for Phil? As, again I presume, this helped pay his salary?.. The sport, 100%, needs grabbing by the scruff of the neck, with someone showing ambition, vision, and drive... It sadly just will never happen...

  3. ... and Workington... and Scunny who had doubts surrounding their return... and Edinburgh who seemed set to lose their stadium a couple of years back (and who knows whether that one has well and truly gone away). And if you count going quite well, a league of just 9 teams and having lost Somerset, Newcastle, Rye House, Birmingham, Stoke, Sheffield, Leicester, King's Lynn & Ipswich over the years as "doing quite well" that's a very strange measurement. Poole & Glasgow are "going quite well", I'd say the rest are clinging on by their finger tips! Mr Morris also engaged with the fans, I personally spoke with him on the phone after the play off semi debacle a couple of years back. He set up the fans forum with fan representatives and I know of others who he has reached out to when they have been ignored by individual clubs. You may reply "what actual good did that do?" but as @mikebv said he picked and addressed all of the low hanging fruit, anything more radical he was never going to be allowed to do with no stake in the sport financially.

  5. If he's gone I think its a great shame he brought ideas and professionalism to the Premiership and having the guy who directs the GP series could only be a good thing. Assuming he is still involved with Speedway Futures and that still has legs then hopefully we haven't seen the last of him.

  6. Absolutely bonkers ruling. If not enforced anywhere else then it’s a joke to be enforced here. should be enforced worldwide.

  8. Well they have announced the team for Wednesday, they would not do that if there was doubt it was happening.

  9. I was there too, over the moon that it's back. Probably the healthiest crowd I've ever seen which was lovely to see. It was bitterly cold though with a relentless freezing wind that just didn't give up. Me and my dad had to leave after heat 12 because the cold won, but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to go back for more. For those who are already moaning about it or have negative comments to make, please keep them to yourselves. The people that have poured their hearts and souls into brining Buxton back from the dead would be hurt to see this, and we should be supporting new tracks coming into the sport, no matter what your opinions are.

  10. He made the clubs adhere to a schedule to speed meetings up with set grading breaks. Introduced the centre green clocks. Had the sponsors banners made up in the pits so every club looked the same. Brokered deals with riders to ride in the premiership. For the grand final he had a magnificent looking stage not made of three pallets. Pyrotechnics and flames. Spoke to save Coventry stadium and offered to buy Ipswich with his own money. Introduced the media day. but apart from that not much. now the sport is imploding and going backwards under the current regime

  11. Even for 2026, Phil has been a great advocate for British Speedway Premiership and has done lots of work behind the scenes which most people simply do not see. Always knowing that his role of Chief executive wasn’t to continue this year due to lack of money He was instrumental in keeping Ipswich going including being part of a consortium that made an offer to keep it going if Mayfield deal had fallen through. Has also had a a lot to do with the opening of Northampton giving guidance of what was required to get Speedway running along with being involved in the negotiations with stadium owners and management . There has been some failures previously maybe the loss of TV deal being the greatest but he did explore various options but none could be got over the line for various reasons. It has not been helped by some promotions not backing him fully. He wanted to modernise the product to try to get in new fans and sponsors some of which cost money like for tv meetings having a set presentation team and DJ, Lights and fire cannons on centre field but certain promotions wouldn’t back this and could even be objective like refusing to move advertising A boards for tv meetings and not even keeping the league sponsorship ones clean. Phil was also key to a number of top names returning to the UK like Woofy , Janowski and Lindgren along with brokering deals for Lambert and Dudek to ride for clubs to then back down on the deals

  12. I think it’s more likely to get the last BSN meeting done than anything sinister against Berwick. If the BSN meeting is not run until later in the season it could screw up the whole competition.

  13. Oxford has always been the priority, Berwick is/has merely been Oxford B However it is besides the point right now really, I’d rather see Oxford continue on and have them running, it would be another devastating blow to British Speedway if they can no longer run.

  19. Been done for NDL, in previous years. Anyone fancy naming a PL team for 2026?. Team top 6 must have combined average of 37 or less, and include a rising star at 7. Averages to come from BSPL named starting averages. https://britishspeedway.co.uk/weekly-roundup/british-speedway-round-up-1-3/. I'll start with, 1 Kurtz 8.97 2 P H Bangs 4.50 3 C Holder. 6.84 4 L Flint. 5.05 5 Bewley. 8.64 6 Etheridge. 3.00 7 Edwards.

  23. This site is a a microcosm of the running of the sport as a whole. Anyone who brings up an issue by a club whether that be poor racing/track prep, running outside the rule book or poaching riders, to give a few examples, immediately gets berated by home fans who’s desire to back their team trumps the greater needs of the sport as a whole. The most irritating thing is the very issue they are defending soon becomes wrong when another team do it. This yo yoing of morals is indefensible in my eyes and renders any point of view they have, moot due the biased nature from where it is comes from. “It’s ok for me and my mates to do these things but not you, especially if it gives us an edge.”This is not only where we are now but also where we have been for years and the reason good people have walked away from the sport. We don’t aspire to match the best but prefer to pull the rug from under them. The current pushback has already started and I fully expect it to succeed.

  24. Would tend to agree, also being back up by Generous Supporter Club Donations by loyal speedway fans. problem being if they decide they have had enough it’s hard to say where the sport will end up.Most of said Promotions are knocking on in years.

  26. You could come up with a formula that provided excellent exciting racing surrounded by an enjoyable race night experience at a price point fans where happy with in a packed stadium and all the other utopian ideals in place but in speedway if it came from a team or person you didn’t like, holes would soon be picked however invalid they may be and the whole thing would fall apart or not get off the ground to start with. Petty bias is the underlying issue with this sport where competition spills off the track, into the boardroom and onto the terraces. An independent body would be fine as long as it’s your independent body and the pushback against those who’s face doesn’t fit no matter how fine their ideas is alarming and sole destroying for a sport that is absolutely required to work together.

  27. Well i may sound like a broken record but come on Leicester stadium owner or promotor PLEASE sort the lighting out now beyond a joke. Stand on second bend out of pits or third bend start line is so dark. You have a rig over the start line puts some lights on surely, power runs through there to the starting clock. Cannot believe this is never raised by match referees poor....Before i get negative comments I've supported the sport for years and been around many stadiums both uk and eurpoe this has to be the worst stadium for lighting. Probably just waiting for the summer nights to land...:(

  28. Bachelor will be on his 2025 converted Champ ave. I'd have gone for Jonas Jeppesen instead of Kye Thomsen, especially after his two guest appearances in the top 5. Think that would've given them more strength at reserve.

  37. On his first visit to Foxhall I was impressed with gusts on track, don’t remember what he scored but got better every time he came out and had a real go, didn’t push on like I thought he would but morale looked pretty low in the Oxford pits last year, tough environment for a foreign youngster to come into and the pressure be straight on you

  38. With the Championship "product" solely reliant on being subsidised by the top tier also paying the same riders that the Championship want to use... Crowds of 600/700 would only support NDL racing, and not support top tier HL's leading their teams... One Big League was suggested, and, personally, with so few teams in total, I feel that would resonate to a wider public number, however, the logistics would mean it couldn't happen as these teams with 600/700 crowds couldn't afford to solely pay top tier HL's who no longer could double up... Hence, two tiers will need to remain... With the tail wagging the dog...

  41. Agree and I think we’re all intrigued and looking forward to seeing PHB ride on Thursday. It’s the one signing that has generated a bit of interest and without him, it would all have felt a little flat with all due respect to the others. I’ve said it before, but I’ve always wanted to sign a Rew/Bangs every winter because it freshens things up and gives us someone new to run the rule over. We recycle the same old riders here generally and we know everything about them, what they can do, and how they ride. Bangs gives us that element of the unknown which is exciting. Impossible to predict how he’ll get on mind you. Seems a talent and a good signing on the face of it, but then again I thought Francis Gusts was a good signing for Oxford and he turned out to be awful so you never can tell.

  42. Would Aces have won with Kurtz & Blodorn.. who knows. Guessing we hope Lions get aggregate win over Tigers. Strength in depth teams can prevail but isn't great having a Bewley. Hope he was as entertaining tonight as he was at midday. Jeppeson is an untidy uncompromising sort, but he's much more useful than I gave him credit for.

  43. Let's be honest no Poole fan will blame Lawson which i except but don't agree with but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing for sure putting Toby in hospital won the match for Poole, but the main thing is tobys wellbeing both physically and mentally of that I'm sure we can all agree.

  48. Yes he did a lot to improve things in the sport, especially the race night experience and the appearance of the sport on TV. He was never going to be allowed to make it into a proper sport as the powers that be just aren't interested in doing that. I think he may have had a hand in introducing some new riders to the UK. He did make the massive bottom burp of interfering with the play offs the season before last though but he did fess up to that understood it was wrong and owned it. Couldn't see him staying on as soon as the TV cleared off.
